iPhone Games Catch-All

I have put waaaaaay more hours into both The Creeps and PvZ than I care to admit...

Okay. The Creeps is incredible. Bought it to pass time while I was violently sick and recovering in Guatemala and it's been a joy. And I just started Plants vs. Zombies. So I'm knee deep in tower defense games. I really like being freed of creating my own maze (as in Field Runners) and I love the strategy that comes with clearing space.

Plus it's so charming.

I'm re-addicted to The Creeps after getting the HD version last week.

Put 20 minutes into Rimelands earlier and I definitely liked what I saw.
I want to look at the skill trees though - has anyone seen a chart/wiki? (My google-fu failed.)

I'm also loving Rimelands after picking it up for 0.99cents. The turn-based controls work so much better than a faux d-pad, making this the only RPG that I've been able to play on a touchscreen. I've probably sunk at least 6 or 7 hours into it, leveling up the assassin upgrade tree mostly, and for some reason it hasn't gotten stale. I think it's the addicting sound of rolling the dice (whose animation can be sped up in the settings!). I definitely recommend picking this up, even if it has gone back up to $4.99.

Anyone have an idea about the average time it takes to finish the game?

Yeah, I think the dice are a stroke of genius. Every rpg I've ever played has done the combat rolls offscreen, but this really adds something. Being able to customize the speed is a great idea as well. I'd like to see it imitated, complete with the ability to customize the speed or even hide the rolls altogether.

Pretty sure I'm down for whatever the developer does for a sequel. Turn-based RPGs are soooo right for portable platforms, especially with the iffy controls of the iPhone.

Finished Ash last night. Great tip about grinding for exp, and its fast and easy if you set the battle message speed to instant. Interesting storyline with one exception:

Spoiler:

I hate "to be continued" endings. If I just played the whole way thru your video game, at least give me some closure in the finale!

Does the HD version have new maps? I may be tempted if it does.

Yes, sir.

Still enjoying the hell out of the game. It's a nice RPG balance with 100 Rogues. (Are there more than two characters in 100 Rogues, or is that it?)

Well what do you know, there'll be a new class in the coming update. December 15th.

Rock on.

Trying to complete the Piece of Junk achievement on Space Miner. It's kicking my arse.

Also: bought rimelands just on the basis of the love it seemed to be getting here.

I have really enjoying the combat in Rimelands.

Highly recommended for people who want a fun turn-based rpg with good combat. Haven't played Ash yet, but I will.

Warning. As mentioned by Nomad. Buggy. As in, there is a very good chance something will happen to make it impossible to finish the game.

I'd hold off unless on sale, or you don't care that it's still pretty broken.

I will say, very fun until the gremlins got a hold of it.

Well, it was free, and you can't get a much better sale than that. I think a lot of people managed to pick it up then. Even if it bugs out at the end, you're still getting your money's worth.

ASH is buggy, or RIMELANDS is buggy?

I'm near the end of ASH and I haven't encountered any bugs at all. Be that as it may, it looks like the devs just released a new update today to fix a few issues.

Rimelands, unfortunately.

Well it's $4.99 last time I checked. If after multitudinous hours a game perma-glitches on the last boss, I feel pretty cheated. I enjoy the sense of completion, so for me, it wasn't/isn't. Your mileage may vary. I'm just warning folks.

No big deal-- I think there was a miscommunication because you quoted a block of text talking about BOTH games, without specifying which one you were talking about. I think Strewth was talking about ASH (which was free last week).

I grew up in the Southeast to white trash parents. Can I claim English as a second language?

The iPhone port of the old PS1 game DRIVER is free today.

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/drive...

It got pretty good reviews when it was released, IIRC.

As if!

Time Geek is also free for the moment.

Just finished it myself, and I agree with your assessment of the ending. At least they came back after the credits and gave you a tiny bit of "closure." I think how I ultimately feel about this is going to depend on how quickly ASH 2 comes out.

I know I'm late to the party, and I'm not sure how long the excitement will last, but Game Dev Story has become my new crack. I'm glad these guys are working on a sequel!

Xmas means more Fragger, Angry birds and Slice it levels! Hooray.

Anyone up for a few rounds of Words with Friends?

That's one of those that I played for 9 hours straight, then deleted to save my life, relationships and mental health.

I never played Fragger or Slice It, but I just bought them. Bonus that Slice It is a universal app.

Angry Birds. What can I say. They turned the Halloween game into a seasonal game, for free. Those guys are way too generous.
