iPhone Games Catch-All

Eurogamer just did a review of several games at the 59p ($.99) price point. Good stuff.

Seemed a bit random to me. One of the games (geoDefense Swarm) wasn't 59p when the article went up and considering the fairly average reviews for a lot of the others games I think there are better examples of good 59p games on the store.

Catan just came out. Been looking forward to this one, downloading now.

Where? I'm not seeing it.

Sorry, looks like App store releases come out at midnight and it only just came out in the UK, you should get it tonight. Looks like the price will be $5.

Alright, thanks. itunes won't display the page, it also says its not available in the US yet.

I see Catan now. I also see it has no kind of online, only hot seat (which is actually my preferred brand of multiplayer) Has anyone played it, have any impressions? Are there any speed-game rules to get things going faster?

Rock Band is pretty good but I've done the solo tour and have played the same song 6 or 7 times. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it works?

I've played it. It's the original game with no expansions. Starting out it's quite slow but if you turn on quick animations it plays at a good speed. You can also start a game within about 5 seconds of starting the app. There are a few options you can choose before starting a game:
Players (3-4, AI/Human), Map (Fixed/Variable), Robber Mode (Normal/Friendly), Dice mode (Normal, Stack, Stack5), Start mode (Settlement/City), Victory Points (8-12), Resource Bonus (on/off).

Can't comment on the hot seat multiplay as I've only played against AI so far, the basic AIs weren't much of a challenge but there are plenty of tougher ones I haven't tried yet. The game looks good, I'm not keen on the zoom function as it seems a bit clunky and forgets where you were after your go finish but there's really no need to use it anyway as you can see everything fine normally. I'm happy with the game and think it's worth the price, my only complaint is not being able to play your own music and the hope for expansions to be released in the future.

Every song on the tour is supposed to be different but there is apparently a bug that causes what you've described. Not sure how to fix it though.

I'm going to wait on Catan to see what developer support is like. If they can talk about fixing some of the complaints and adding in expansions (paid or not is fine) then I will get it. But looking at their webpage and such, I get the impression they aren't going to be talkative and if they do, it will be in German

Woo! One more iPhone game that I have now played for an hour while avoiding actual work. The iPhone is the greatest procrastination tool mankind has ever invented.

Agreed, I'm slightly skeptical of this myself but I paid more for the 360 version without hesitating and the DS version would cost me something like 10 times the price so I think it's fair value (for me) for what's there now.

I's at least encouraging that they posted an update as soon as it had been submitted to Apple and another update as soon as it was available to buy, not to mention running a Beta test. They also seem to be going for a similar look for all their console and PC versions, some of the other versions do already have expansions available and they did call it "The First Island" implying future updates (although the mobile phone versions came out in 2008 with the same name so maybe not).

Hey. Long story short I have a lot of time to kill recovering from surgery and so I need something lengthy on the iPhone. Rpg or a sim or something..., any ideas?

Catan & Civ Revolutions.

Dungeon Hunter!

Wolfenstein RPG is supposed to be good isn't it? Not tried it myself but it seems something that could last a while and on my list to pickup.

Lots of sales on at the moment, mainly for Halloween, for instance:
Rock Band: $6.99 (from $9.99)
iDracula: $0.99 (from $2.99)
Sentinel 2: Earth Defence: $0.99 (from $2.99)
Nick Chase: A Detective story: $0.99 (from $4.99)
Derek Jeter Real Baseball: $0.99 (from $4.99)
Robocalypse – Mobile Mayhem: $0.99 (from $1.99)
Beneath a Steel Sky Remastered: $2.99 (from $4.99)
Bloons Tower Defence: $0.99 (from $2.99)
Orbital: $0.99 (from $2.99)

Is there a decent, space themed 4x turn based game out there for the iPhone? I haven't been able to find one as of yet.

I would just like to point out that instead of working today, I have played two games of Catan and am in the middle of an awesome Civ campaign.
That is all.

Try RTK - Romance of Three Kingdoms, classic Japanese turn-based strategy remade for iPhone. I saw it in action and it looks really complex, interface is well-planned and gameplay... well, if you like games like these you're going to love it.
Here's wiki for the series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance...(video_game_series)

I just bought Beneath a Steel Sky because I had a bit of money left on an iTunes gift card. Not even sure why.

I have like 50 games. Right now the thing I play with the most is Looptastic, a little music sequencer game. They're just so irresistible at like $1 - $5 a pop.

33rd Division is a nice take on the line drawing genre similar to flight control and harbor master. It adds a few interesting tweaks to the idea and last I checked it was only $0.99.

Anyone hop on Red Alert yet? I'm interested in how well an RTS will handle on iPhone. $10 is climbing up there in the price department though.

I'm interested too. Hoping for a sale or some positive Goodjer feedback first though.

Not bought Red Alert yet, to be honest I'm waiting for a price drop after what I've read as it seems overpriced for what is being offered, especially considering I only paid $8 for Red Alert 3 on the PC recently.

Only 2 skirmish maps from the start with them selling a map-pack of 6 maps from day one doesn't seem right to me, even if the map-pack is reasonably priced at $0.99. There's also apparently no way of setting the difficulty level which to me seems a fundamental option that should be there from the start.

Has anyone bought the classic Doom that just came out? I'm tempted to try it but I'm hesitant to spend $7 on it.

My wife is playing these on the x-box constantly. If I can get them for the I-touch, maybe I can get my x-box back...

Underworlds for the iPhone on sale ! 79 eurocents or 99$cts Awesome deal, lasting until Thanksgiving!

Ravensword (iPhone imitation of Oblivion-style games) is reportedly out now. Anyone played it?

I'd say Underworld is a great deal for 99 cents, btw. Fun little Diablo clone.

All Konami games are 99 cents at the moment. Picked up MGS Touch and DDR S+ yesterday 'cause of it
