I ended up buying an IPod touch this week and so far am really loving it. I was finding myself watching a lot of videos on my current ipod so justified the purchase to myself this way and have to admit the new screen is really nice. So far I've been playing a lot of Harbour Master and Fieldrunners, both very addicting, lots of fun and great for playing while listening to music or podcasts.
I've been reading through this thread and picked up or plan to pick up a lot of the games recommended so far. Any other "essential" games anyone thinks I'm missing from this list?
Alive 4-Ever, Bookworm, Drop 7, Fieldrunners, geodefence Swam, Harbour Master, Peggle, Rolando, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, Wolvenstein RPGI know I'm missing Civilization (never got along with the DS version) and Monkey Island (already bought on PC) but wondered if I'm missing anything else important. In particular I'd like to pickup a few board/card games as I find them perfect for a quick pick up and play game and am looking forward to Catan coming out this month.
If you like poker then Apple's Hold'em is excellent.
I was on swarm 138 on Minefield and doing great, creeps were barely making it halfway through my maze. Phone rings, I answer it, come back to GeoDefense Swarm.....level selection screen.
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU—
Yeah, GeoDefense Swarm doesn't save state if you exit the app. Very lame.

It's doesn't? I'm almost certain that it does.

I'd been playing that level off an on all morning, so it definitely does for sleep mode and that sort of thing...but apparently not for phone calls.
Been playing Cartoon Wars...not too shabby. For .99 its well worth the money.

It's been iffy for me, sometimes it saves my state, sometimes it doesn't. I haven't really paid enough attention to determine a pattern.
I never use laser towers unless they are at the end of a long line, maybe I should try that. I lost progress on an infinite level too, that pissed me off.

There are times I wish there was a setting to block all incoming calls and/or texts and still be able to use data. If there are any apple engineers lurking out there, get on this!
it is a crazy 88 beatdown!!
that level 1 blaster was my gateway. I kept bouncing them back and forth down two ways then I got so many creeps I could not close the door fast enough.
Wow, you guys have really turned me on to laser tower spam. It works so much better than balance:
Hi guys,
I am an indie dev from Germany... and I like to listen to the podcast alot, occasionaly contributing to Games as Art discussions here in the forum. My proof of concept as to why videogames are art is out in the open ...

OK, I am stuck on "Home Base" (2nd medium level) on Geo-Defense Swarm. Half the time, I can't even get past it on novice mode. Any suggestions?
Also, are there descriptions anywhere of the special features of the towers at different levels? I know that missile towers will change targets instead of dissipating at level 4, and you can lock laser towers (so they don't spin) at level 3 by double-tapping. Any other secrets?
Also, anyone know of any good tower defense games for the Wii? I want my 9 year old to stop stealing my iPhone to play GeoDefense.
Woo Geo defense Swarm update! Now I can put the game to sleep without it crashing whenever I want to get back to it. FINALLY

Oh thank GOD.
On that note, what's the proper upgrade strategy for "The Hatch"? It's the only Medium level I haven't beaten...I think the path is obvious, but no matter how many shock towers I build/upgrade, the fast creeps (stars and Os) seem to still seep through.

I finally finished it by pretty much having a pattern of: missle - thumper - shocker - thumper (repeat)
with a little tweaking.
And, make sure you upgrade your thumpers as much as you can...

Wow, I just played Ouroboros again with 1.1 installed...the upgraded thumpers sure do make a difference now that they have... SHOCK POWAH! So hopefully my troubles with Hatch will be a thing of the past. Hope to find out soon...
I'm dumb - what do thumpers do?
I'm dumb - what do thumpers do?
They drive away creeps with horrible eurobeat played way too loud.

They're sort of a non-directed attack, area of affect centered around the tower itself. This makes it great to use on corners where creeps will be near every side of it for a while. Since it is an AoE attack, the use of the slowing shocker towers near it makes it a great weapon to use. The idea is to keep large numbers of creeps near the tower for as long as possible so they get slammed by multiple waves over and over again before getting out of range.
It doesnt do a lot of damage on its own early on so you'd need several to take out waves. Better to build one or two with lots of upgrades and combine with slowing towers and missiles (which also do AoE damage)
Ah, I tried one out but didn't upgrade it much and couldn't figure out what it did. I shall try them again. f*cking Nucleotide.
I just haven't found a use for thumpers. Honestly, if you have the ability to use rockets, I just don't see the point of them.
For all Beethoven lovers and shortwave spies, here is a brief video of a videogame vignette made by me.

Are there any Hungarians in the forum here? It is also for you
You can also enjoy the game without buying. Check out the Lite version. The game has some subtle mysteries hidden. ...
cheers,
What I was hoping for were more things like Rollando. Some quick, puzzle type games, that could occupy a couple of minutes say at lunch or in a waiting room.
KingGorilla, if you like Rolando, Soosiz looks like it might be something else you'd like. It's only $2 until tomorrow. Nickel and dime, nickel and dime... (Haven't bought it yet myself).
I've been playing Lux Touch lately because I was looking for a Risk clone. Pretty disappointed in it, mostly because the cards start scaling so ridiculously high that your units from territories and continents are irrelevant.
Anyone have other suggestions for Risk-type territory conquest games? I could swear I saw someone playing something cool on the bus the other day.
Dysplastic, have you ever tried Strategery? It's a more abstracted and stripped-down Risk-type than a clone like Lux, but is definitely in the spirit. I'd recommend trying out the free lite version; I've been playing the lite version for months since I dumped Lux after about ten minutes.
Just bought "The Creeps" and "Meteor Blitz".
The Creeps has become my new favourite tower defence game. I'm enjoying it a lot more than geoDefense Swarm so far, it's really making me want to get 100% on each level wheras with geoDefense once I beat a level I was done with it (except for endless maps). I'm sure this is just personal preference though, I just really like the look and feel of this game and prefer set-path Tower defence games to ones where you make your own path.
Meteor Blitz has really surprised me. It's a lot of fun, the 2-stick simulation is surprisingly accurate and even though it's a blatant ripoff of super stardust at 59p/99c I'm not going to complain.
I am downloading it now Gravey.
Galcon has been compared to Risk a few times too (though played in real time). The sequel Galcon Labs just came out recently too and is currently on sale at 99c/59p. I've been enjoying it quite a bit.
The update for swarm is out and now thumpers show the real AOE and also they have a chance to stun creeps as they roll by. This is how I got by the hatch, just barely. I first outlined my maze with thumpers, then I started to add in shock towers and adding in two of three missile turrents. I upgrade the corner thumpers first as they normally get in 2 thumps before the creeps fly by, also I keep the shock towers separated so they pass creeps off to each other instead of all of them hitting a few a freezing them. I will play and get a SS later today

I dont know what is new/added or pretty much anything about the game other than it is the sequel to Galcon and it is the same price as a whopper junior. There is no way I won't get more enjoyment from this game than a crappy BK burger.

It has everything from the original and 4 new play modes (defeat a specific target, moving planets, invisible ships and mid-flight battles). From the sound of it it's more of the same rather than a true sequel, though it depends on you whether that's a good or bad thing. Great value for anyone who never played the original though (like me).
