iOS Games Thread Catch All

I'd say watch this. If this doesn't interest you then yeah, might just not be for you?

No, it's really and truly gaming genius. Do not let the graphics fool you. Dig in for at least 5-10 levels. If it doesn't hook you by then, you're immune. But there's a reason ppl make such a fuss about this series.

Maybe, maybe not. I love tower defense games, but just couldn’t get into any of the previous Kingdom Rush games. *shrug*

I got 44 seconds into that video and noped out.

Tower defense games just don’t do it for me.

Confirmed, not for me. Thanks for findings pinnacle sample. I hung in for the first five minutes then scrubbed forward several times and saw much of the same.

I actually do the like graphics a lot; it reminds me of Kairosoft’s Dungeon Village, which I put way too many hours into.

Now there's a game I got day one.

Is that #3 in the Reigns series?

That is correct. The second was Reigns: Her Majesty which is awesome..

I remember the first one. Everybody was over the moon with it, I jumped in to find out it was a glorified text-version of Temple Run with three parameters.

Mehh...

Anybody else that picked up Stardew Valley Mobile try fishing yet? For the life of me, I can't seem to keep the bar "in the zone" with touch controls.

I can't quite wrap my head around what a text based endless runner game would be like. Maybe I'm confused as I haven't played any of the Reign games nor Temple Run.

I'm running stardew on an original ipad air and haven't had troubles with the fishing. I mean, I fail from time to time but in I catch the fish the majority of the time.

So that new IPad Pro... going to cost me around $2K AU to get the 256GB wifi with keyboard and pencil. I mean sure, I can use it for all my productivity stuff as well as some ipad games, but damn. Two thousand bucks.

Looks like Card Crawl has gone free for the day.

See so it is actually 1,998K when you consider the savings on Card Crawl!

Oh, that’s the same creator as Miracle Merchant (pretty sure is heard about that one on the GWJCC). Thanks for the heads up!

So you have three columns X Y and Z and they reach from 0 to 100. If one of them reaches 0 or 100, you're gone.

The game fires random questions at you which will lower one column and raise another one, depending wether you answer yes or no.

That's it.

That's all

I don’t know about the sequels but there was more to it than that in the first one. There’s stuff you do in a run that can affect a subsequent run not just in a “oh I’ve seen this scenario before so I know exactly how it unfolds” but also in the sense that the game knows what you’ve seen before and will throw new scenes at you based on that as well as unlocked “items” which carry over to subsequent runs.

edit: I’ve thought of another way of expressing an extra dimension of depth that occurs within a single run: the yes/no question scenes aren’t independent. so you might need to answer yes at a certain point in order to unlock something that will benefit a subsequent run. but in order to get that question to even show up you may need to have answered a scene prior to it in a particular way. So now the question isn’t just “pick the answers that balance my resources,” it’s “how much of a buffer do i need to be able to pick the answers needed to get that unlock without dying and what decisions will I have to make to build that up and what competing unlocks will I close off by making that sequence of moves and which unlock is more necessary right now (while the unlocks affect subsequent runs, they can be lost or are limited to just the next run or next few runs) to get me to new nodes that can make new unlocks available”

Pretty much this. Also, maintaining a balance is a lot more complicated than you’d think.

Reigns is really good, but you start to see through the matrix pretty quickly. Which will draw your attention to the RNG factor of the game. And also clue you in to the memorization and trial and error factors of the game. Which end up culminating in a slight resentment of the game. Which can grow into a bigger ball of resentment. And then I lose my patience and just stop playing it.

But it’s an original concept that is fun. And very affordably priced. So if you’re the slightest bit intrigued you should just buy it and give it a shot.

I admit, I might be a bit too harsh.

Apart from some A or B questions, there were some chain-event questions, some random questions and possibly some chain-event-random-A-B questions.

Same goes for Temple Run that you can go left, right, and dive and/or jump.

It had a fair price, had a nice lay-out and was bug-free. I did not regret I bought it, but for a couple of bucks more you have King of Dragon Pass which is imho a bit more fun. I played Reigns for two days and forgot about it. Drawsomehting lasted longer with me.

This looks interesting (if the AI is any good)

I tried out the GoT version after this discussion and found it pretty dull to be honest. Didn't seem like there was much too it and what was there really didn't hold my attention.

King of Dragon Pass and its prequel (just released) are pretty much Contract Bridge, while Reigns games are Fluxx. There's no direct comparison. But there is a place for both types, in my world.

Any word on Dungeon Warfare 2 hitting iOs? That guy is bad at publicity.

Assassin's Creed Rebellion dropped on iOS yesterday [Free]. I'm just starting to get into it so it's too soon to give an honest impression, but it seems interesting so far.

I’ve played a few hours of it. I doubt that I will come back to it.

Attention all picross fans!

There is a simple but fun game called Pixel Puzzle Collection. All of the pictures are sprites from classic Konami games.

PIXEL PUZZLE COLLECTION by KONAMI

+1 for Pixel Puzzle Collection. It plays pretty nice on iPhone, is portrait orientation (which I strongly prefer!), and is free without most of the usual freemium jank -- just some mild non-video ads.

I've been playing it for over a month now as it was released in Aus a while back. I play it every day and have really been enjoying it. Don't waste your money on the IAP though. They aren't worth it. I bought a T2 weapon/Armour upgrade and yeah, wasn't thrilled with only getting a single weapon and armour item I could have built by just playing some more.

Very grindy, but it's still kinda fun to just play here and there.

In other news, Kingdom Rush Vengeance is out. Downloaded it and played the first 2 levels. Feels awesome, but ...... paying to unlock towers.... Heros i get. We had that before. But making us shell out another $20 or so for all the extra towers... yeah, not happy with that. Will see how it goes over the next few days.

That is super disappointing I was fine with the paid heroes, but putting 1/3 of the towers in a tower defense game behind a paywall AND keeping the paid heroes? That sucks.

Makes it an easy pass for me.
