iOS Games Thread Catch All

Oh yes, I know how that works. I’ve been meaning to post a new thread about Online Game Addiction, whereby my personal challenge was to not be behind in a game’s meta by living my life around the game’s timers instead of paying money. I’m through with that now, thankfully. Solution: stick to real games (you pay, you play, you stop and doing something else) instead of these online mobile F2P non-games.

Agree 100%. If you care about getting to the meta, GoH has been out for 3 years and it would honestly take a year to catch up without spending.

If we are recommending FTP Gacha games I would highly recommend Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. I've been playing it off and on for a couple years and really enjoy it. It has energy timers but there is so much to do I can often just sit and play for an hour or two if I want. They are extremely generous with the currency you need to make more pulls too.

This is one of the reasons I still actively, enthusiastically, play Clash Royale. Their balance is Pretty Darn Good and it is 100% possible to have a decent deck/strategy without paying your way into it, even (usually) keeping up with the meta.

For the most part, money just lets you get to specific builds faster. You can play slowly, building up, and work your way up the ladder with good strategy with a wide range of possible decks, and the best decks are a mix of common and rare cards, not just "all legendary" (in fact, that's probably a horrible deck).

One of my personal practices is that when a newly-installed game asks for permission to display notifications, I tell it "no."

Games where the notifications are valuable -- generally, turn-based async multiplayer games such as Lords of Waterdeep -- get to have notifications turned back on.

Two apps on my phone have notifications enabled: texts and emails, and emails are silent notifications to boot. Everything else gets defaulted to off, because F that noise.

If I had that policy, I would have gone to sleep and missed the Bin Laden announcement.

Civilization VI is now on iPhone, in case there were any holdouts due to the iPad requirement.

I can't even imagine playing Civ VI on a phone.

It looks good, very readable, no squinting needed.

What would have happened if you hadn't read it until the morning?

I have been in the military since summer 2001. Would you feel good if you slept though your wife giving birth and showed up to the hospital the next morning? There were hours of great discussion and analysis on many channels right afterward, which could never be replicated if missed.

Watched some Civ VI iPhone vids and you're right. It looks great!

Color me surprised.

Eying Civ6 for the sale price. Played a few rounds on the demo mode and it runs beautifully. Left the app and came back and had to start over again. Couldn’t figure out where to save. Figured it was probably because of the limited demo. The full version has save/load right?

Yes. Demo has no save.

Siralim 3 released for mobile, and got it's first update to customize the controls.

Darkest Dungeon also updated with the Color of Madness ($4.99 USD) and the Musketeer (Free).

Reigns: Game of Thrones has been released on iOS. It's super good, you guys.

Is that #3 in the Reigns series?

Nice, I might have to find and charge up my iPad and actually use it since it has been just sitting for at least six months.

Stardew Valley - WOO!!! It wasn't the sort of game I would dump a lot of hours into on my PC or console, but I can really get behind it as a mobile game. Speaking of which, I need to go login and water my plants...

I never tried the PC version, but I'm about 2 hours into it on my iPad and really enjoying it. I do wonder if the farm, fish, mine gameplay will get old after a handful of hours though. I know people have put a lot of time into this game so there must be more to it as you progress or at least enough stuff to keep it interesting.

Farming and gathering never got old for me, but other systems did. I would have loved some alternate options for crafting so I could ignore the systems I didn't like (combat, fishing, and gifting townsfolk). Alas, you have to participate in every aspect of the game to get the best stuff.

I played a few hours on PC and didn't get real far, but my understanding is there's different upgrades, crops, and items you acquire/learn to build as you go. I think I've also heard you can pursue a romantic relationship. I don't know a whole lot, but I've heard there's a lot more than simply removing a few rocks and planting some seeds.

I put a lot of time into this on PC. The different activities scale up quite a bit in complexity over time, and some of them involve an element of mystery that also keeps you chipping away at them. I never finished it by any means, but I think it's got legs for a good long haul.

Oddworld series of games are $0.99 right now.

On another note, is there a way I can disable the double tap of the power button to purchase? I liked using touchid for that but with faceid you have to double tap the home button. Also, is there a way to hide the giant white line at the bottom of the screen when playing?

EPIC!

So.........please convince me Kingdom Rush just isn't another tower defense game, but with nicer cute graphics? I tried the first one for an hour or two and couldn't force myself to continue. Maybe I'm just not a tower defense guy?
