Assassin's Creed Unity Guillotine-all

I was watching a programme on Korean food last night and thought historical Korea might be a great, unexpected location choice. I don't know what kind of weaponry or martial arts they went in for in ye olden days.

Oh you just opened my favorite can of worms. There's actually a pretty good record of ancient Korean military arts in the Muye Dobo Tongji. Lots of people have tried to recreate them, with limited actual success, though they managed to swindle lots of people. But the book itself is a worthwhile record. I've been involved in this topic for years.

This announcement is going to pair well with my trip to Paris in June. Maybe I'll practice my climbing.

You could also practice surreptitiously following people about the streets whilst festooned with swords and flint lock pistols.

Oh wow that's fascinating. They were clearly pretty close to Japan in terms of swords, horse combat, etc.

I may have to investigate more deeply. I've never really thought about the time before the nation was divided. It would be a nice location pick in terms of wrong footing expectations, much like going to Italy was (at least for me.) Funnily enough, the programme last night suggested that the Koreans are the Italians of that region, in terms of loving life and being very demonstrative.

They were actually a lot closer to Chinese military traditions during the three kingdoms period. They had a significant economic, social, and political relationship with China. It's an interesting period in Korea's history. The Japanese influences came later, during the occupation. Things got ugly.

This franchise man. Keeps drawing me back. This looks ace.

Time periods/cultures I think would work really well:

Tenochitlan right before and during Cortez's arrival.
Assassin's Creed: Viking
Imperial China
Ancient Egypt
Victorian England
Late 19th century Chicago (first skyscrapers + union movement + American gangsters + cowboys)

That would be fantastic. The Conquest of New Spain by Bernal Diaz Del Castillo is an amazing book.

I really like that idea. It's not a setting that would have occurred to many people. You could have some areas in England and some in Norway. Not sure how much ship based combat there was at that time. I'm guessing very little.

Interesting:

Ubisoft will unveil two new trailers for Assassin's Creed: Unity at this year's E3; one will focus on single-player, while the other will showcase a four-player "narrative" co-op mode.

I will only play mutliplayer with Goodjers. My experiences in Wolfpack when trying to max out my level were atrocious enough.

Yup, I'm sucked in again.

All I can say is "Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn." Reminds me of that cinematic trailer with Blackbeard for Black Flag. I loved the French Revolution in school, thought it was way more interesting than the American Revolution... party due to my French heritage... but man... between this and the co-op stuff they've been showing... Can't come soon enough.

Here's another interesting "making of the E3 demo" video that was listed in the trailer's related videos:

(There is no part 2. There's no part 2!)

Can't really say Co-op appeals to me too much. I never liked the multiplayer of Assassin's Creed and always stuck to the single player side of it. But that being said, overall this looks pretty good. I like the return to massive cities and huge buildings to climb. Hopefully they can make the story engaging like AC2.

Not a fan of the idea of co-op either, at least not in Assassin's Creed, but we'll see... If anything, this game looks gorgeous, and I'm extremely pleased that we're returning to the Old World. Sorry, America, but I just don't want to be climbing trees. Bring on the churches and cathedrals.

I'm so glad we're seeing a more subdued character model. Edward was fun, for the most part, but he looked a little silly with all the weaponry.

I love Altaïr for that reason (sketchy though his personality is). He was well equipped, sure, but the weapons really complimented the uniform. Even if it was kind of strange that he'd be able to blend in with priests carrying two swords and throwing knives.

I hope we can actually customize what weapons to carry. I'd love to *just* have the sword equipped, or *just* the pistol. Or, hell, go exclusively hidden blade. Really blend in.

I doubt it, though

The simpler costumes and moving away from white was much, much better. It worked for the first few games but the new costume looked fresh and interesting.

One of my favourite things about these games is the character animation. I liked the subtly different animations they've added. The odd one looked a tad awkward but others were really nice. Even little stumbles when he lands on a roof worked well.

Seconded. Most of the time, I just use the hidden blade. I tend to avoid aggro at all costs, and thus never use any of the other pistols/swords/etc, much less smoke bombs or poison. It really would be nice to be able to pick and choose what weapons you take with you, now that I think of it. Maybe even throw in a mechanic on its impact on stealth: for example, the less weapons you carry, the slower you profile meter rises/the easier it is to stay blended in?

Good point Higgledy, I guess I shouldn't knock it until I've tried! Now if I can only find some test subjects to try Wolfpack... ;D That's always my biggest problem, it's finding the time slot to play with other people without interruptions. No small feat in my house, let me tell you!

I love Wolfpack, where four players take out groups of targets. If you haven't played it give it a go. It shows how great co-op assassination game play can be (although there usually isn't a heck of a lot of stealth going on.) Doing co-op missions in the main game could be phenomenal.

Hopefully the co-op doesn't throw off the balance for single player because I love my single player AC.

The last Ghost Recon, to me, had moments were the single player suffered because the missions were balanced towards co-op but I think they've learned since then. Red Dead had brilliant co-op, so did the latest Splinter Cell and, in both those cases, the co-op was in their own separate missions. They could do it that way.

Hearing British English coming out of what are supposed to be French characters in France ruins the sense of place for me. Also, the gory end to the MS press conference trailer put me off. Yes, I know I've stabbed and beheaded plenty of virtual enemies before. Eh.

Honestly... I'd rather have British English than that ludicrous sacrébleu French accent. But I'm biased.

If you're on 360 send me a friend invite. Randoms are fine to play with also. They vary in competence but you can end up in some great teams. You'll probably find it confusing at first (I did) but you'll soon get into the flow.

Zut alors!

Nope, PC exclusive, unfortunately.

Maq, you forgot your cigarettes and red wine.

And strings of onions and smelly cheese :).

I'd like French accents. It would be interesting to know why they decided to avoid them or if we'll get more in the actual game.

I liked Ezio's accent, but I'm thinking there were some actual Italians that might not have.

Well, you guys have a point. I mean, they did have very stereotypical Italian accents in AC2, right? I wonder if the fact that Ubisoft is initially a French company has anything to do with it. Maybe there's some compromise to be had. There's gotta be some middle ground. Less this:

And more of this:

Right? But definitely stinky cheeses. Lots and lots of stinky cheeses.

Damn, but that E3 trailer was badass.

No doubt all the nasty Aristos sound RP and all the starving peasants will have American accents.

Worth noting... if the Assassin's Creed movie has action sequences like that trailer... I will love that movie. Starring Michael Fassbender? Yup, totally going for a midnight showing on that.
