Towerfall Catch-All

The Ouya system seller is now out for PS4 and Steam!

I admit that I bought a 3rd PS4 controller for this game. Two of my kids and I had a blast playing tonight. It took a bit to pick up the skills, but the game provides many humorous moments. Also, there are a ton of ways to modify the game. In the end, we played a team deathmatch (2 vs 1) with friendly fire turned off. It was challenging for me, and, well, my kids beat me every time. The phrase "one more time" was shouted many times before the system was turned off.

I may have to pick up another controller. Was thinking about picking this up while its on sale for PS+ and it definitely sounds fun.

A few months ago I decided I needed a 360 controller for my PC, and I decided to go ahead and get one with a wireless receiver so I could use any of the controllers we already had.

That purchase was completely justified with the arrival of Towerfall. My wife and 2 friends had a lot of fun jumping around and shooting each other earlier this evening...

Yeah! I set it up on my Macbook (Windows boot) and my Xbox 360 Wireless dongle. HDMI output to a big screen TV and we were rocking. So much damn fun.

Can anyone tell me if it is worth the purchase for single player only? It seems so fun, but it's obviously much more focused on co-op.

Single player is a nice perk, but it's really focused on the local coop. If you don't have people to play with I don't know that it's worth the money.

But we're talking $12 here, so YMMV.

I think I'll hang on for a steam sale or a possible Humble Bundle.

Does the control on this game use both analog sticks on a controller to play? I'm wondering if an arcade-style fightstick with a single joystick would work with this game.

On the PS4, you use the left stick or the d pad to move your character. X jumps, square shoots, and the right trigger dodges. That's it for controls. I would think that an arcade stick would work just fine.

I had to resurrect this thread because I'm having so much fun with TowerFall. I've completed all the maps on normal and I'm now playing through on Hardcore to unlock the special level Gauntlet 2.

Ascension (Normal) was the longest I've been stuck so far, it took 88 tries.

Then I went to Hardcore. The first couple maps only took a couple tries but Flight held me up for a while.

Mirage is the next map after Flight and it took me around 20 tries.

Thornwood is the latest map I've completed on Hardcore. Those scythe wielders are nasty.

I'm going for 100% completion and I haven't wanted to do that in a game in a long time. This game does a great job of not feeling cheated. When I die it's because I made a mistake. I'm constantly improving my skill and the difficulty is mostly a reasonable climb. I was worried Hardcore Mode would be too much of a jump in difficulty but completing Ascension on Normal really prepared me for it.

That's very impressive!
