Let's talk anime.

Speaking of endings, I'm still pissed that the InuYasha ending accomplished NOTHING.

Which is precisely why I made such a note of Maison Ikkoku ACTUALLY HAVING AN ENDING. Rumiko Takahashi(she's the artist that wrote and drew Inu-Yasha) has a 30 year history of writing long, drawn out series that have no ending to speak of. For those of you only old enough to know Inuyasha and maybe Ranma, here's her longer works:

Urusei Yatsura
Maison Ikkoku << Actually ended though
Ranma 1/2
Inuyasha

She's done some short pieces here and there, Mermaid Forest and the Anthology Theatre are the only two I'm familiar with. Both are pretty good, although I haven't seen a lot of either.

Well given that Inu Yasha the Manga is still going, which is where most of the TV shwos material was pulled from, I can't really see how they could have ended the story in the anime.

The company making the Ranma 1/2 anime went out of business before concluding the series, hence the lack of an ending there.
hmm I thoguht Usueia Yatura had wrapped up in one of the multiple movies put out? Been a long long time since I've seen anything Lum...

I wasn't talking about the series, I was referencing the manga. Ranma 1/2 had no ending; same with Urusei Yatsura. I have no idea if the movies had anything cohesive to them, although wikipedia hints at somewhat of a conclusion in the 5th movie, which comprises the last bit of manga.

All in all, most of her reputation comes from Ranma 1/2, which ran on for 38 collected volumes of manga, 7 seasons of anime, 2 movies and an OAV. At the end of it, you were no closer to seeing any kind of resolution in the relationship between Ranma and Akane than you were in episode 1. On a side note, it was cancelled due to poor ratings; I've found nothing to the effect that the studio producing it closed.

Overall, I stand by the fact that Maison Ikkoku is the only series she's produced with what I'd consider a 'clean' ending; one that neatly wraps pretty much everything up. Ranma 1/2 had none, Urusei Yatsura sort of did, but it largely fell short of fans' expectations. While Inuyasha is still ongoing, I'll reserve judgement on that, but I'm not holding out much hope.

You are evil, Edwin, and I love you. Where did you find this?

The Tokyo Library.

As in the Tokyo Toshokan?

Yup.

This is what is funny about the US. Last Monday Sci Fi started having their ANI-Monday block where it looks like they will be showing anime movies, etc. So last week they had Ghost In The Shell : Solid State. Good movie BUT they had multiple scenes where people and cyborgs blew their brains out. Any censoring of that? Nada. One scene where an old guy had three nurses wearing maid outfits and g-strings. Little blur squares over the g-string. This an 11PM to 1AM block.

I mean really, that's pretty ridiculous.

It's just more evidence of what's acceptable and not acceptable in American society vs Japanese society.

Well, Death Note has finally come to an end. At 37 episodes, I'd say the ending was quite pleasing, and the whole series is definitely worth watching.

Now that I have 1 less show to worry about, I can hopefully continue trying to catch up to One Piece. Only 200+ episodes to go.

Nodame Cantabile is over. One of the better animes I've seen in a long time. Now I need to find new stuff.

Worked through all of Yu Yu Hakusho, and it's as good as ever.

The group I was picking up subs from stopped releasing for some reason, and I'm too lazy to dig up a good raw. Suggestions on finding it?

AnimeJ (and everyone else really): One of my favorite "go-to" sites for subs is http://www.fansub.tv. Otherwise there's always the Tokyo Library.

I'm well acquainted with Tokyo Library as well as Fansub.tv. I was looking for a more IRC accessible method. Ah well, that's life.

Anyone know when the DVD with the second half of Karas hits the US?

Anime on DVD lists it at 9/25/07.

Arigato! And I've favorited that one.

And the Desert Punk box set hits next week. This is good news, too.

Picking up Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society tonight.. Anyone seen it yet? (No spoilers please..) Is it any good? Or should I just rent it?

I liked it.

On the irc.rizon.net I go to #Anime-Supreme and #AnimeCorpX for good anime talk etc.

Just finished watching Witch Hunter, now working through Noir.

Just saying.

Witch Hunter as in Robin? If so, that was a fairly decent series, if I may say so. Noir can be a bit slow in parts, and the music can get a bit old, but watching Kirika and Mirielle kill people will never get old. If you're a fan of the series at all I highly recommend checking out this AMV. Pretty hot stuff, did fairly well at Otakon when it came out in 01.. sweet mercy, was it really that long ago? ; ;

I'm going to Metrocon in Tampa tomorrow. Never been to an anime convention before hope it goes well!

Yep, Witch Hunter Robin. I really enjoyed it, although I think some more displays of power were in order...Robin just didn't seem like the apocalypse in a skirt that they tried to make her out to be.

Actually, I disagree. I watched the first 5 episodes, and I just can't get into it....it seems like it's all be done in the first episode, and they just keep segueing back to it so you can remember what is going on.

Just not feeling it yet.

Wow. So much fun and craziness and cosplay at the convention. Seems like Naruto is the fan favorite at the moment. Listened to Vic Mignogna and Laura Bailey answer questions also.

An exellent part was a 2 hour show the organizers put up once a year called "Anime Human Chess Match". Tough to explain but it was incrediblely fun to watch!
