Let's talk anime.

I still have no idea how a live-action One Piece adaptation is even going to work. Like, is the actor for Zoro actually gonna hold a sword in his mouth? What's their CGI budget for Devil Fruit powers?

That's what makes this so exciting! It's all new ground. I'd guess they're not going to stick a sword in Zoro's mouth, but who can say for sure? I do know Netflix is throwing a lot of money at this, so whatever they do it should at least look good.

Trash Taste Boys: "Anime is finished. There's nothing worth watching."
Jeff from Mother's Basement: "Holy crap, 2021 is STACKED!"

I agree with Jeff, by the way. My main surprise is how slow this thread is moving for a year with so many nice picks.

I'm not a big fan of either of those groups but I also am more interested in anime of the past than anime of today these days. Ultimately, however, I am more interested in video games so I barely watch anything, period.

I’ve been revisiting a few older shows recently and it’s hit home how unappealing most of the current stuff is. I had been thinking that my tastes had moved on from animation, but apparently no.

I'll have to say that this year's new shows have been very miss with me. Of course Arcane was awesome but most stuff I enjoyed this year was slightly older anime I had missed or was not interested in at the time.

I've been doing a fair amount of that.

Though from this season I do have to say that Ranking of Kings turned out to be shockingly good.

I thought Demon Slayer was fantastic and it started back up. Neon Genesis movie was terrible. One Piece is over thousand episodes and is just so so. At how dumb Naruto Next is I'm digging it. The cyborg thing is just kind silly but I bet the kids like it. MHA was pretty good, the movies not so much. Seven Deadly Sins was terrible. The Slime anime was pretty good but the start was a little slow. I liked the Sailor Moon movies/show.

I guess for me the western cartoons have been better than most of the anime I watched.

The current shows I'm watching are:

Komi San Can't Communicate
Demon Slayer
Super Crooks
Mushoku Tensei
Aggretsuko Season 4
Taisho Otome

Ah yeah, the new Aggretsuko did just land, didn't it?

Komi Can't Communicate is in my interests radar, as is Blue Period which a friend keeps recommending to me. However, if I recall those two are series where Netflix caved to the whining anime fans that can't stand not being "part of the conversation" and being able to see stuff as it airs, right? So I'm gonna sit here and wait until I can "binge" 'em, since that's my preference.

I don't know if any of you are watching The Daily Life of the Immortal King, but today's episode had me grinning like a fool at a punchline hidden within the otherwise serious episode. I did not see that coming I've been really impressed by this Chinese anime thus far, the story has been pretty fun and also has some excellent production value. The main character reminds me a lot of Mob from Mobpsycho 100, otherwise the supporting cast and world building seem to be pretty unique.
I wish I knew how to pull gifs out of the episodes that air on Funimation, there are some real comedic sequences hidden in there that need no context to enjoy.

We like the stock.

Sounds like there are parallels to Full Metal Panic, where the former child soldier turned mercenary pretending to be a high schooler is assigned trash detail during his class trip, and when said class trip is hijacked and he takes down one of the hijackers, his response to the incredulously asked question, "Who are you?!", is a completely deadpan, "I take out the garbage."

Just completed SAO Alicization. I thought it was interesting. I was entertain for the most part. I don't think they did anything new. People that were trapped in a game still feel the need to go inside games. They never address how stupid this is. So it just kind of same old same old to me.

Get another rape scene. I guess we need one a season. Was it done tastefully? Not really. The actual situation around it was interesting. Do you follow the rules even when the rules are wrong?

Animation was okay. I mean I just watched DOTA and Arcane so anything less than outstanding wasn't going to impress me and this didn't impress me but I guess it was good animation.

I guess in this world when a lady goes to the next level all her clothes are blown off. Just thought it was dumb. Oh look her really long hair covers up all the naughty bits. And boy does that hair do double duty during the fights. Just give her a outfit.

The story was fine I guess. They actually did have some strong female characters and most kept their clothes on.

SAO War of the Underworld ep 1 and 2

The real world server location is under attack. Someone wants the tech. Meanwhile Kirito is a vegetable being taken care of by Alice. There was a scene with Alice sleeping with Kirito. I guess she is in love with him after knowing him for half a day. They don't play it off as rapey but it was kind of gross. That is SAO, every lady wants into Kirito pants even if he is a vegetable. You know what I was kind of hoping for was that Kirito and Yugioh would get together. Oh but he is dead now so the hope for that is over. Would have been different to have a dude lusting for Kirito.

The town people treats Alice like garbage because they know she is a rapist or they are just horrible people. However, Alice protects the people from a goblin attack that was left over from Goblin Slayer. Saber makes little work of the monsters and vows to find the holy grail to wish for a original plot line. Wait I mean Alice. I wonder if someone looking like Rin will show up next.

SAO War of the Underworld ep 4

A dude unleashes his ultimate form and goes completely naked. Didn't think they would do that for guy.

Sinon is choked out in a dream or flashback. Another lady is also choked out and her head is removed. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Don't care if ladies are killed off but both of these deaths seemed to sexualized. I get the guy's main theme is killing people with his bare hands but did it have to be so rapey. I want to see him kill a dude and see how that is handled.

Asuna is preparing to enter the game. I guess there will be some drama between her and Alice. The main bad dude or really bad dude has gathered his army and is preparing to attack. The one main bad lady from last season was brought up. She might be the real big bad. I'm just shocked she had clothes on.

Midway through the ridiculously adorable Teasing Master Takagi-san, I finally get it.

Nishikata is the long-suffering, much teased protagonist of the show, and we’re normally supposed to self-insert into him, and look at Takagi. But now I get it. It’s the other way around. Aside from being clever and perceptive, Takagi is really not particularly interesting. But she does do things that are actually more normal than Nishikata. So Nishikata is the one we’re supposed to be looking at. He’s the husbando, and the entire point of the series is to enjoy their dynamic, but mostly the cuteness of Nishikata.

If you like loser tsunderes who aren’t particularly clever, and especially if you’re a shouta fan, you’ll like this series. It’s a little like watching a stupid cat falling over its own tail or pets doing rather inane things to get themselves into some harmless trouble. Takagi makes sure he doesn’t get in too much trouble, so it’s all just harmless, cute fun. No ecchi. Nishikata is the shouta on display here, not Takagi.

Nishikata is certainly the comedy and the main force behind the story, but Takagi is sickingly sweet. It is so painfully obvious how much she cares about Nishikata by how well she knows and understands him. She knows how to push is buttons, but never does do maliciously, and you can see she knows when to pull back and stop, or even offer him support.

I think it's pretty neat that they actually have adapted two manga in the anime: Teasing Master Takagi-san and it's spin-off Tomorrow is Saturday, which are the segments about the trio of girls: Mina, Yukari, and Sanae.

I think self-inserting into Nishikata too much can be frustrating for some viewers because he is that dense and diffident. Takagi is constantly throwing herself at him and he is constantly just not getting it. Of course, Takagi’s endless patience is buoyed up by the fact that she can read him like a book and she is absolutely confident that Nishikata only has eyes for her.

Cross posting from Post a Video. Nostalgia, anyone?

Last 2 weekends I watched Oddtaxi and 86 and I highly recommend both!

Started Attack on Titan Final part 2 and boy is that opening metal. Had to make sure I wasn't watching metalocalypse.

Not sure you know but part 2 is not the final part.
There's going to be a Final Season Final Part (2023). Hopefully, there won't be a Final Season Final Part Final Sequence afterwards.

Stop trying to make me cry.

Never really watched AoT but recently saw on of the big battle scenes from this season on YouTube. Was really cool . Probably won't watch the series. I'm not fond of dark shows or drama. But might have to watch the fight scenes.

Seriously, who does these things!? It's not the final season if you are taking a break before another batch of episodes are coming out later. And who decided that seasons could have half year long and more breaks? Can we just all call it season 7? It's 7, right? Season 3 has 2 parts, so:
Season 3 pt 1 = 3
season 3 pt 2 = 4
Season 4 pt 1 = 5
Season 4 pt 2 = 6
Season 4 pt 3 = 7

Yup, season 7 in 2023. I thought Season 4 pt 2 was the end so the wife and I are finally watching through the series. Just started season 3. Not looking forward to waiting for season 7.

I have a question regarding streaming services. Mainly about Hidive.

I'm used to Netflix, Crunchyroll and Funimation so far, but some titles are moving to that platform that I liked.

Is it a good service ? Billing wise, is it easy to handle ? Comments ?

I am seeing it's asking for promo code ? Is there such codes offered by goodjers ?

I didn't have any problems when I had HiDive, but it has been four or five years ago since I last used them, so things may have changed.

It's a perfectly cromulent service supporting multiple user profiles in a single account (2 can stream at once), and the billing system has the ability to pause your subscription as well as pick between the $5/month and $48/year payment plans. The web site can be a bit laggy. I haven't seen promo codes since it launched, but it sounds like they're all for a free month at signup--and everyone still has an option for a free trial anyway.
