Nice!!! I rewatched it recently. It really knows how to hit ya in the feels.

I binged Aggretsuko season 2 in a matter of hours on Saturday.

It continues to be an excellent series. I'm actually really surprised at how much I'm caring about the characters. It seems like they may be establishing a bit of a formula for each season, though.

Spoiler:

Just as the first season, Retsuko finds a fellow she's attracted to and starts dating, but for one reason or another it doesn't work out. This one felt like it got a bit out there and Cinderella-ish, but I really liked how the Prince Charming didn't actually turn out to be some abusive jerk or some other cliche like that. He had good intentions but was, ultimately, disconnected from the people he was trying to help out. So in the end I liked how things went. Despite having a similar formula to the first season, it didn't feel like they were just retreading old ground. They didn't rely too heavily on her boss being harsh, and many characters that were simple gimmicks last season were given more depth in this one.

Overall a surprisingly good show for what it is, and I eagerly look forward to season three.

If anyone hasn't seen the anime film "A Silent Voice" yet, it's now available to watch on Netflix. I recommend watching it in Japanese, if possible, as there is a scene that has a play on words that doesn't translate into spoken English properly. Really good movie if you have ~3hrs to watch it.

3 hours? Does it feel like that to you? Because it's only 2h.
(I also recommend it.)

Some people may experience crying for up to an hour afterwards.

As incredible as "Your Name" is, I actually think "A Silent Voice" is a more heartfelt film. Its just not the fantastic adventure the former is.

Both are worth your time, imo.

Yeah, that got added to my Netflix queue as soon as it released a couple weeks ago.

Watching Violet Evergarden on netflix. Its about a girl that fought in a war as a weapon. After the war she is sent to live a normal life. She picks a job as a Doll, a letter writer. I guess in this world most people can't write. People really like letters in this world.

I'm about half way through the series. The show is very pretty and the story is cool. No fan service except for one lady that has short dress that is constantly doing battle to contain her boobs. Besides her everyone else is normal. The show is mostly relaxing but there has been some flashbacks to war. Most of the drama is over letters being written in a emotionless way by Violet.

Oh it also has that common trope of young girls around 12 to 14 getting with older guys.

Done with Darling in the Franxx. Liked the show overall. The ending fell a little flat.

Biggest thing I didn't like

Spoiler:

Giant robot transforming into a human girl.

After that any dumb thing was possible.

I did kind of respect DitF for just going full-bore insane at the end but yeah it was basically impossible to take what was going on seriously.

I finished the last episode of Dororo. It was great.

Watched the last episode of The Helpful Fox Senko-San (first time I've watched a simulcast).
Overall, I like the series, and would watch a second season if they make it. It's a little creepy sometimes in theme, but still cute and fluffy.
When I first mentioned it, I said it reminded me of Miss Kobyashi's Dragon Maid. Still does... though there's less of an overarching plot or development. It even ends the same way.

Any recommendations for anime titles on Prime currently? I need something to watch at work during lunch until I can get my back healed up and go work out again.

Land of the Lustrous is the first thing that comes to mind. Did they confirm a season two? I can't recall.

I know tuffalobuffalo was speaking highly of Welcome to the Ballroom.

The Great Passage was highly enjoyable, yet also easily forgettable.

I can't think of much else they have that's exclusive (don't others now have streaming rights for the original Macross?), but that's partially because Amazon is very bad at advertising exclusivity.

Oh! How could I forget Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress? I seem to be the only person that really likes it, but that basically describes my taste with anything compared to everyone else on this website.

I forgot the whole reason I even came in here was to post this trailer.

Amazon anime. Haven't seen all of these, nor do I know if they're exclusive:
Made in Abyss
Princess Principal
The Garden of Sinners (which I need to finish)

That's disappointing. If there's going to be a OPM video game it should really be a visual novel with timing elements, like making sure that you get the right coupons for the store and manage to make it there on time, despite the massive threats around you. Y'know, have to bring up your fun meter with some video games against King, but don't break all his stuff.

Both great choices. Other on Prime I’ve enjoyed: Girl’s Last Tour, Princess Principal, and Made in Abyss. Admittedly that’s a mixed selection of genres...

I gave this one a try and after episode 2, I really like it! Since I'm not that far into it I don't know what to say except that it's like a anime zombie apocalyptic steampunk fantasy. I'm excited to see where this may go.

One reason I selected Kabaneri is that the characters looked a little more adult. I was going to give Made in Abyss a try but I didn't like the cover characters. I'm not a huge fan of the cute little anime girl genre stuff. I'd like to find a good high fantasy anime with some mythical races (e.g. elves) but haven't found anything yet.

I also liked Berserk, Bleach, and the Witchblade series.

That would largely be due to the character designer of Kabaneri being Haruhiko Mikimoto, who was designing characters since the 80's. So basically, bringing that Macross sensibility into the modern age.

Don't let the cute appearance of Made in Abyss fool you, though. I haven't watched it yet myself, but am aware of its more dark tones. It's definitely more mature and adult despite the youth of its protagonists.

I will only accept this game if Saitama's only in the game as a training dummy.

Yeah, do not let the cover art fool you.

I'm sure this was covered at some point in the past, but I just wanted to pop in to say that the GKIDS Blu-ray releases for Studio Ghibli's films are really good. The picture quality is phenomenal. They include all the Disney dubs, which are of mixed quality but usually decent; plus newly translated subtitles for all the films that are more accurate than the dubtitles on previous Ghibli Blu-ray releases. They've also gone the extra mile in a few cases to make the Japanese version of the film better match the Japanese theatrical release, like restoring the original score to Castle in the Sky for the Japanese dub. Even though, in my opinion, that original score is worse, it's nice to see it there. I've been slowly replacing the Disney Blu-rays in my collection with the GKIDS releases and have been much happier with them.

Character designs: cute
Story: NOT CUTE

Watching Tiger and Bunny which is about superheroes that have sponsors and are run like a reality tv show. Watched about five episodes and I'm digging it. Nothing to write home about. Animation isn't that great and the stories are forgettable. The show isn't serious but not super wacky either. I guess I would call it a bad show that is fun to watch.

I was first turned off by a gay character modeled after Dennis Rodman but he isn't as clownish as the usual gay character in anime like in one piece. He is a trope but they aren't making fun of being gay.

Anybody watch the first episode of Fire Force? I really dug it.

It's set in some kind of alternate world Tokyo where cases of "spontaneous human combustion" results in people transforming into mindless, destructive "Infernals." The protagonists are firefighters who specialize in dealing with Infernals using a mixture of special tools and supernatural abilities (several of them are pyro-kinetics and one of them is a nun who prays to ease the passage of the Infernals' souls).

The main protagonist lost his mom and brother when he was a kid and his pyrokinetic abilities were blamed, and he has an unfortunate tendency to smile in a creepy way when he's nervous so people are afraid of him but he is a wholesome lad at heart who's determined to prove himself a hero.

It's based on a manga by the creator of Soul Eater and you can definitely see it in the art style. There were a number of little visual touches in the first episode I liked that are easy to miss, like the fact Maki's fire helmet is shaped like a witch's hat.

Overall very nice first impression and I'm hoping this will scratch my itch for something a little more action oriented after watching almost exclusive SOL anime for a while.

In case anyone was unaware, WayForward got Studio Trigger to animate the opening for Shantae 5, which looks to me like somebody wants to pitch a Shantae series if I ever saw one.

Yep! I was one of the anime I was really looking forward to this season. I had read some of the anime years ago and really enjoyed it. The first episode really starts off strong, unlike the mixed bag of other anime I've started this season.

Speaking of Studio Trigger

Yeah gonna miss that show.

Watched Fire Force today and it seems quite promising, but everyone, you need to go watch the first episode of Dr. Stone.

Yeah Dr. Stone was cool. Fire Force looks really cool after that 1st ep.
