Let's talk anime.

Hmm I did not see a after credits scene on Crunchyroll

The Seven Deadly Sins season 2 will be on netflix Feb 17. I really liked the first season.

fhana

Whenever I see fhana doing the opening, I always give the show a chance. Not sure if you use iTunes but it's an option if you don't/can't import. The EP for Maid Dragon is available already. I'm not sure how much of a cut iTunes takes, but I would hope some of the sales goes to the band. Two of their albums compile a lot of EP's together. I have Outside of Melancholy and really enjoy it, especially the final track which doesn't appear to be anime related in any way.

Ha! An internet list worthy of actually clicking on: The Hair Flips of Homura (Madoka Magika) Ranked

So Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale came out yesterday. I just saw it. It was pretty good. It did drag a bit in places (though not because of the lengthy explanations that usually slow SAO down) and had some wonky animation (according to Tomohiko Ito, the director, the film was only completed last week, in sure it'll be fixed for the Blu-Ray).

The action sequences were great, though the last one may have been a little too over blown (it seemed to include nearly every hero we've seen in the anime).

It was worth flyong to Japan to see. Well, not alone, but as part of the trip, that is.

Also got to see Haruka Tomatsu (the voice of Asuna) in person. *squee!*

Cool, Mantid!

Finally got around to watching S2E7 of Rakugo.

*shakes head in disbelief*

How does a show be consistently fantastic and then somehow pull out stops you didn't know existed and somehow become more than fantastic?!? *sigh* I don't know how they do it.

I think this belong here:

I just read that. Is "Ass Swordsman Tetsuo" a thing? I'm afraid to look it up.

Good grief. I've been surrounded by anime ads and merchandise for the last week and a half, but have only watched a little over two hours of anime... And half of that was a rewatch.

And all you freaks have to offer is "Ass Swordsman Tetsuo"?!

Been enjoying ACCA:13 and The Saga of Tanya the Evil lately.

I haven't been keeping up to date on anime recently, but one title which caught my eye is "gi(a)rlish number", which is based on the same author who created "my teenage rom com snafu"; it's a light hearted satirical stab at the seiyuu (voice acting) industry, with less focus on the whole process of making anime (e.g. Shirobaki). The humour is pretty good, the art is nice, there's no overblown fanservice and it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Went to see the SAO movie last night. As someone who recognizes that shows flaws and loves it anyways, I really enjoyed the movie. It's really just a 2 hour block of high quality SAO.

The Ancient Magus' Bride: Those Awaiting a Star Episode 2 dropped on Crunchyroll yesterday. My only disappointment is that the third episode isn't until August 9th!

At least we know The Ancient Magus' Bride will be getting a full season come fall.

I'm caught up with all but two of the series I'm watching as of yesterday... how the heck does Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju keep up such incredible story telling each week?!

I don't know!!! That show transcends the anime genre. I love that I could gush and recommend it to anyone without reservation.

Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju

Spoiler:

I sat and watched most of it and I was pretty disappointed when they went with a Yoko Ono moment of woman kills epic bromance. Kind of ruins the show for me to be honest. Great OP song, though

Let me know when season two ends so I can binge it.

Any word on when Netflix will put Little Witch Academia up?

That's a really interesting perspective on that.

Spoiler:

I completely viewed her as the victim of the two men's selfishness, but I can see your point. Her character and tragic life was heartbreaking to me.

If anyone is interested in Japan's second highest grossing anime, ticket sales are now open for your name's NA screenings.

I just wanted to clarify

Spoiler:

I did like her character, but I felt the show treated her unfairly at the end. The audience doesn't get to see the time period where she was working to support her family. We are only shown when she has abandoned them and the MC is getting his friend's life back on track. And they only bring her back into the story to be the instigator of the death of one of the characters.

Ah, you're right, and that backs up your earlier comments.

Spoiler:

Yeah, they really do skip a huge important section of her life in order to focus on the two guys. They probably could have done a whole season about that section they skipped over.

Very interested! Unfortunately the theater near me doesn't seem to have tickets available yet for it. I'll have to keep checking back.

Are they going to have it dubbed into English or is it going to be subtitled as Shin Gojira was? I'll see it either way, but I'm so used to subtitled being the default for me that seeing something dubbed often comes as a surprise and I'd rather be prepared going in.

They are making both available, however when you go to buy tickets online they don't seem to tell you which is which! Might have to inquire at the theater to find out.

My theater on Fandango had two separate showings, one for dub and one for sub.

Thanks to Netflix's download feature I've recently taken to watching anime during my commute. Something about it often being loud, colorful, and with subtitles makes it pretty fitting for a tiny screen experience.

This is my first post on this thread. Here are some random thoughts about what I've watched so far:

  • Death Note - This one is pretty mind blowing. I can't say the quality was always there but the amount of tense situations and crazy reveals made it very worthwhile. I should have listened to my sister when she recommended this to me a decade ago.
  • Sword Art Online - Cool premise but man they squandered it pretty early on in the episodes. It went from a fun ride exploring a world with interesting rules and twists, to a pretty half baked plot that expects you to wait patiently for events you already know are going to happen. I'm hesitant now to start watching the second season if the first was any indicator.
  • Gurren Lagann - I'm watching this now, but it's pretty great! The attitude is really refreshing and I really feel they've embraced the freeform potential that the animation medium provides. Now only if I didn't have to feel so awkward on the train every time Yoko slings her boobs and butt around then it'd be perfect.
  • FLCL (via Hulu) - Really entertaining post-post modern take on the giant robot genre. They've basically abstracted it to the point of ludicrousness and its both brilliant and idiotic at the same time. Pretty mind blowing.

That said I'll be lurking here for ideas on what to watch next. I thought I saw someone recommend The Seven Deadly Sins, and Ajin looked interesting. Now if only Crunchyroll had a download option then I'd be set...

First season of Death Note is great. The second season is horrible. They abandon logic in the second season. Still worth watching though. There are two live actions movies based on the anime and the US is making a live action version also.

On a different note are there any good horror anime? Just watched Shiki which was a disappointment. I think the silly anime hair took me out of it. Elfen Lied was violent but not scary. Psycho Pass was pretty close but I think I just found the world disturbing. I guess I want something on the level of The VVitch.

Quit while you're ahead, the second season is absolute garbage.

Japanese horror is generally more about being disturbing and creepy than about being scary.

that being said, Hundred Stories is a good supernatural horror anthology ,Monster is a great psychological thriller, and Gantz is creepy as hell.

I wouldn't say its garbage!

Season two is quite different, but the anime never quite catches the same height as the first part of the first season. If anything you should at least watch the last episodes of season two (episode 18 on) which is probably the best story outside of Aincard. Episodes 15, 16, 17 are a fun little story. The first 14 episodes are pretty divisive, however, and if you didn't think the first season was all that great, you probably won't care for it.

The only one I've enjoyed that I'd consider horror was Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When they Cry), though even it falls on the more physiological thriller side of things. Loved Paranoia Agent too, but it probably even farther really being a true horror series.

There are plenty of others I've watch that have supernatural elements, or zombies, or other creatures of the night, but I just don't think of them as horror series, no matter how much I enjoyed them.

jamos5, my recommendations would be Log Horizon and Grimgar if you want more VRMMO themed anime. Could also try Danmachi.

I'd also recommend these, but I don't think either is on Netflix. I know Grimgar was on Hulu, but don't know if it still is. Both shows are more interesting than Sword Art Online.

Nevermind don't ever listen to Bfgp he clearly hates you and wants you to suffer.
