There's no reference as just how far they've gone or how far they've to go. They're up to 9 crew members. I don't know if they can add anymore. They've got to be close to the last arc.
I dunno, they still have so many enemies left. They've got the remaining government Shichibukai which each have detailed storylines that have been building up, they've got that ice admiral, and they have Blackbeard's crew. That's at least 2 really long story arcs. Not to mention that we should find out more about Whitebeard. Yet they're dragging out the ThrillerBark story arc like they don't have enough to write about.
Red Garden, I'm watching that now--pretty good, horror show. There's weird bits where characters break into melancholy song once in a while...but otherwise fine.
Gilgamesh is also quite good.
Is it me, or was the first A Yori Aoshi series good, but the second at little too...I don't know if misogynistic is the word, but my fiancee would not tolerate it, though she liked the original.
The Twelve Kingdoms is a great fantasy story that felt like it ended early (cuz it did), as the show got cancelled before one of the more interesting story arcs was REALLY finished. Still, they tied it up the best they could, and it's definitely worth a watch.
Kudos on Hibane Renmei and Azumanga Daioh, among favorites, great stuff!
If you're into the idea of the Matrix, Lain is something you might want to check out too.
I've started reading the Death Note manga, and I love it. Anyone have other manga suggestions? I've read almost all of Ranma 1/2 and the original Dragonball, but little else. I love funny stuff, or a good horror (however you would classify DN).
Is the Death Note anime as good as the manga?

I'd have to say yes on that one.

Yeah, that's a lot of enemies.
The other two pirate emperors are an unknown. And we know Shanks is on Luffy's side. So its Whitebeard, Blackbeard, and the Shichibukai 5 that we know of. There's got to be some infighting ahead a la Ace v. Blackbeard. Otherwise, I'll be reading the latest volume translated to my grandchildren.
One thing I appreciated with the Ice guy was that it showed how completely overpowered some of the future enemies are. How in the name of all that is holy are they going to beat guys like that? I know they'll find a way, but still.
Sigh. I was just wondering how much longer it was going to take before my daughters would do their homework without me standing over them with a whip and a chair. Sounds like it's going to be a while.
Another topic: Anime series/movies on UMD. Any one know of any? My son's overseas and while he has some DVD's, he can't convince the guys in his unit to watch them and they only have the one TV. He does have a PSP though. So I thought to check into it but I can't seem to find a good source. Any suggestions?
This should be a helpful guide.
Yeah, I got nothing.

Aren't portable DVD players only like 100+ bucks now?

I don't think there are any (I think the media companies that do Anime DVDs would want serious returns for them to do that).
What you CAN do is NetFlix some anime, download PSP Video 9, and rip those suckers straight to a MemoryStick.
If memory serves correct, Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll were released on UMD. Aside from that I don't really follow UMD (or PSP) releases so I can't say more. I like the memory stick idea though.

The player isn't the problem, it's the TV and trying to get consensus with the rest of his unit about what to watch is the problem.

He's talking about one of the DVD players with a built in 7 inch LCD, momgamer. I personally had a laptop with a DVD player built in when I deployed, but if the base he's at has a decent BX, then they should have some of em. I thought about getting one to save wear and tear on my laptop, but ultimately skipped it.
As to anime on UMD, there really isn't anything good. GITS and a few other series, most of which didn't get fully released are about it. However, with that said here is a listing of every UMD that TRSI, who is hands down my favorite online retailer carries

I know that the first 2 or so episodes of Trigun are on UMD. I don't know if they got any further in the series than that though
Amazon has a decent selection here. I got several from there before my PSP bricked on me. Cursed little thing...
Okay, so I have 50 GBs of space left on my harddrive... The rest is basically full of anime. It'll take me 50 DVDs to get anything over 5 gigs off (as of right now). Do you think I should move everything to DVD that I planned to? Or get a new harddrive? I'm mostly worried for if my harddrive crashes. I'd like to have some of it on DVD because then I could carry a CD case with me rather than my HD. Which do you reccomend? New harddrive and DVD, just DVDs or just a new harddrive?
My current harddrive is a 320 GB that I bought 2 years ago? Something like that....

Er do the portable DVD thing or um, the PSP will play video files that are on a sony memory stick... not that I am suggesting you do something like copy the video to that, in fact i am explicitly telling you to not do that as it may not be legal to do...

I just bought a 640GB WD on Newegg for $100. I haven't decided yet, but I'm thinking of putting it in an external casing. That way, I can lug it around with me if I ever need to.

I suppose it depends on how fast you can burn DVDs. Otherwise, get an external enclosure with some room to grow, and the biggest HDD you can afford.
As an update on Macross Frontier I must say that I am very much enjoying the series. Excellent CGI blended with drawn. Good character interaction and of course excellent action sequence. The music is very good. So far it's a 5 outta 5 star anime for me.
Macross Frontier
I cant wait to watch this but I'm starting at the beginning with the Robotech series and I'm going to try to watch all the other series in order (release order not timeline).
I also just completed Now and Then, Here and There and Dual and both were nice. I'm watching Scrapped Princess and next on my netflix list is all the Vocoms series

So yourself a favor and don't watch the Robotech series. This coming from someone who has the entire series on DVD.
Instead watch the Macross Series. The original series. Though word of caution, Macross 7 is completely optional. If you really like Japanese rock music then go for it but the general feel of it left a few bad sectors in my memory banks.
Edit add: Thinking about it some more. They do use songs from Macross 7 in Macross F. I think you could call it a tribute to the past in the way. The same way we might look at extremely popular songs of the 90's and remix them now in modern style. So it's kind of fitting and it's neat to see there is some history musically carried over from the previous series. Now all we have to hear is some karaoke version of some of Minme's songs and the gambit would come full circle.
But definitely stay away from Macross Dynamite 7. That one gave me a headache.
Ok Here is a good question.
Do you think they will ever come out with the ultimate collectors edition box set of all Macross releases in one total package?
I understand getting the whole thing in one go would cost probably around $300. But honestly if I could get everything I would pay that price.
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flash Back 2012
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross II: Lovers, Again (Parallel Storyline so technically optional)
Macross Plus: Movie Edition
Kind of wish there was a Cliff Notes version of 7.
- Macross 7
- Macross 7 the Movie: The Galaxy Is Calling Me!
- Macross 7: Encore
Macross Zero
Macross Frontier
Can you imagine all of that in one huge colossal set? Remastered and all that good jazz as well of course. Maybe throw in some neat collectibles.
Also according to what I've read. Macross Frontier is the sequel to Macross 7 officially. As in even "they" don't recognize Dynamite as a sequel to the original 7. I find that kind of funny.

Should I take the plunge and buy it?

I've already started because I have the whole DVD set as well. I figure I just want to see this version because I just reread the 1st 3 acts of the McKinney books. I'll then move into the Macross stuff.
Should I take the plunge and buy it?
60.00 Isn't bad. I have so much robotech/Macross toys I've bought recently i can't purchase it right now though!

I actually didn't mind so much Robotech 1st Gen because it was a classic story. I had the misfortune and mind numbing idiocy of watching 2nd Gen Southern Cross/Robotech Masters which completely killed any want to watch it again. I actually stopped watching 2nd gen about 5 episodes into it I hated it so much. Then thankfully it was redeemed by the decent quality of the 3rd Gen Invid Invasion. If I were to watch it again I think I would watch 1st Gen selectively choosing the episodes I knew drove the story best and then 3rd gen completely skipping 2nd.
I have also read all the McKinney books and am tempted to actually buy the bundled set and reread them. I really don't know what happened to my original Robotech book series. It might be in a box somewhere for all I know at this point.
I am heavily tempted to buy the Macross Super Dimensional Fortress Boxset of the first 36 eps. In fact... I think I might just do that but first I need to ask.
Does anyone on here own this set and recommend me buying it?
SUPER DIMENSION FORTRESS MACROSS, the entire 36 episodes, in their original form, uncut and unedited! This classic anime series is presented in the original Japanese language with English subtitles in a special 9-disc DVD set featuring an all new sturdy collector's box, perfect for display!
Just got finished watching Ep. 6 of Macross Frontier and to me seemed to be the end of Chapter 1. So far the anime has been phenomenal. A superb offspring of what Macross fans loved of the original series and subsequent sequels. If you have been thinking about watching this anime series do not think any longer. This is a must see.
Anyone else ever watch Ergo Proxy? We're currently watching it in my Anime Club, and let's just say a lot of the members are really enjoying it. Granted, it does require a good deal of literature knowledge but it does have a character that reminds me of C3-PO.
It's a series that can be enjoyed by a lot of different people. They do a great job with comedic relief in this very serious show. If you've ever ready Brave New World then you'll notice the similarities between the two.
I'll get to it! Sheesh! Between you and my daughter.....
I'll get to it! Sheesh! Between you and my daughter..... ;)
Don't worry, I won't bother you as much as she will. Besides I still need to finish Last Exile. I think we're even.
But hey, that's what my summer off is for. Relaxing, watching anime and rearranging my room.
Ergo Proxy was good. Animation was top notch, the character you're talking about was hilarious, it all meshed really well together. Dominic, you need to stop watching whatever is keeping you from the secret of Exile and get on it, bro
Personally, I've been a bit of a slacker. I have considerably less time to goof off due to a wife and kids, and TF2 alongside EVE have been chewing what little time I get to myself. However, with the discovery of windowed mode in EVE I can start catching up. Currently in my bucket is Macross Frontier, xxxHOLiC Kei, and Code Geass R2. This is in addition to everything I have to salvage off my old 300GB hdd
It's unbelievable but Macross Frontier Ep 7 was better than Ep 6. I didn't think it could get better and it did. Superb!
I would expect some filler or lower key episodes to follow. There is no way they could keep up this pace. I'm ok with that.
Wow, Macross Zero. Awesome!
Although I'm not sure how that fits into the mythos.
Just as I predicted Macross Frontier Episode 8 was a filler episode. Comedic and very little story development. However there was a couple of juicy tidbits to make you wonder what will happen next with them. So not the best episode but you can't expect them all to be perfect 10s.
