I was thinking of checking out Gunslinger Girl, but kind of wary. Mezzo Forte also had great action until the it started being porn. Anyone seen the GTO series? I loved the manga, but I hear it deviates a lot.

Gunslinger Girl - A beautiful series, but some people might find it difficult to watch. It follows the rather tragic lives of little girls that have been turned into assassins, but does an excellent job of showing the human side of the girls.
I can't speak about Speedgrapher, as I personally haven't watched it. It's art style and darker (looking) tone make it look interesting at the very least.
Concur with Lupus on both couts. Gunslinger Girl is outstanding.

I'll definately get it then, but with that description I think I'll wait until after the Holidays or something. Kanon exceeded my RDA of tragic little girls for a while.

I forgot, I've seen Mezzo Forte as well. I guess I didn't remember it because I thought it was just meh...

I've never read the GTO manga but I love the anime series. Heck the live action movie wasn't bad, but I was on a real GTO kick during that time.
I need a recommendation from you guys. I need an anime that has a good/decent english dub. For this month at work, I don't have much work. Therefore I'm watching anime on my Zune and it's a rather small screen and it's too much of a pain to watch subtitled shows.

I'm sure you're enjoying Last Exile. I watched the first episode over the weekend and deeply enjoyed it.
Gunslinger Girl is really good. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I definitely reccomend it and agree with Lupus.
You'll have Last Exile finished by Wednesday, right? 'Cause I want to gush but I also don't want to spoil either.
Oooo. Holding in the Last Exile gushing is pretty hard on your first go through. You must be vibrating with anticipation.
Last Exile is so kick ass. My #1.

Yea, not gushing all over the place about Last Exile is next to impossible.
As for Mezzo Forte, it's pretty much just porn. Mezzo DSA isn't nearly as bad porn wise, and was a much better series overall, and it's watchable without suffering through Mezzo Forte.
@Momgamer: Yea, Kanon is pretty much a full year's supply of sad girls in snow. Awesome show though, I loved the KyoAni remake.. or are you talking about the original 13 ep version? On a side note, I'd avoid To Heart at all costs until you're able to deal with another sad dating sim.. or well, I suppose it's reasonably sad, considering how hopeless the mail lead is. I need to finish up the sequel series at some point too, now that I think about it.
Last Exile spoil/rant
WTHeck is it with the female officers? I expected Delphine to be a freak; she's the bad guy. But the rest of them are awful, too. Does anyone else hate Sophia as much as I do? Stupid mooning bint, and that cougar crap she pulls on Klaus just makes me ill. He's 15 years old! And what is with Tatiana and all that broken doll stuff!? I expect that kind of juvenile junk from Ravey. She's an actual teenager and she's in over her head in so many ways it's a wonder the girl can find the floor with her feet.
Screw it - put Alvis in command, backed up by that guy in the kitchen who was teaching her how to cook and that sonar engineer. The knob who took over when both Alex and Sophia were off the ship can take his place in the kitchen. Keep Gale in charge of the flight deck with Ralph Wednesday's brother/buddy as the head of the vanship flight crews (and while you're at it get new crews by starting with that Fat Chicken/Sunny Boy/dude-whose-name-escapes-me-at-the-moment wing that made that run with him).
The Silvana would be in much better hands.

Which the Live Action or the Anime version of GTO? The Anime follows the characters of the books, but skips big parts of the series. I liked the series and it roughly parallels the Mangas throughout its cycle (it ends before the manga series does).
Just finished a push through:
Lucky Star - Awesome series, very funny and came together nicely, I related to Konata a little too much (Videogames/anime obsessed). The Lucky Channel segments are excellent on their own.. very well done.
Honey and Clover - Great story and premise, more anime needs to be set in art schools. I need to check out season 2 to see where the great-so-far story is going.
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien - I had to see what this was all about, since it was so highly rated. It was a surprisingly good story of an impossible situation and the effect it has on the main three characters. Very touching and a tad haunting at times.
I'm about halfway through Speed Grapher and it's pretty good so far, but it's slipping out of my interest to see the second half.. Interesting premise, but it's starting to get a bit shonen-actiony in parts and those tend to be the weaker moments in the story for me. I'm wanting it to be as good as the intro, but Duran Duran is a bit tough to compete with..
Ditto on claymore, I'm 3 episodes in and not getting the lure to watch the rest of it.. Anyone seen it through to the end? (Is it worth continuing?)
I continue to highly suggest Black Lagoon, an interesting modern day pirates/mercenaries plot with great animation/characters/action/humor.
Speed Grapher is very hard to follow at times but I did enjoy it over all. If nothing else it's worth watching to the end for the experience even if you don't watch it again.
Claymore was actually much better than I thought it was going to be. Sure most episodes are taken up by battles and the on going theme of striving to stay human while still using demonic powers to achieve the goals of the society. But I did enjoy it. I thought the ending was wrapped up rather quickly but that might make room for a sequel? Not sure.
I have yet to see Black Lagoon so I would be interested in hearing about that.
Modern day pirates in a true melting pot society of crime, degredation, and violence. A japanese salaryman gets sold out by his souless corporation to said pirate crew. Instead of killing him, the pirate crew take him on so he can help run the biz. The city is controlled by various mafia groups and a convent that may be a front for something more sinister. The main character is a dangerous girl named Revy toting two guns. Really a good series.
Ahh that one. I think I downloaded 3 episodes of that and watched it. I seem to remember getting the PT boat to point up in the air and then launching a torpedo into a helicopter or something like that. I forgot about that show, I need to go back and finish it.
My anime club really enjoyed Black Lagoon. It's definitely one of those shows that is awesome in so many ways. Plus, Revy just rocks. Reminds me of Riza, but more badass.
Whyfor do I not have this yet, Dominic?
Oh, and I rented Paprika, but no one in the house has been brave enough to actually watch it yet.

It's Satoshi Kon. Given that everything he's made is disturbing on some level, that's to be expected
I could get you Black Lagoon. I believe my friend has it. XD But it's one of those ones that I kept forgetting to get from him.
I've just seen the trailer for Appleseed: Ex Machina. Like the previous reincarnation, it certainly looked cool. Anyone know anything about that series?
I saw the first Appleseed movie. I thought it was pretty cool. Animation was pretty nice. I never read the manga, but I've heard that the movies are much more serious than the original material.
I'm with jmdanny - I've seen the movie and I own it. I thought it was great work. Personally, I'd check the series out based on that.
Can you link to the trailer for the series? I've been wondering if it was going to fly with what happened to Geneon.

Geneon doesn't really exist anymore. They went belly up a while back.

Well, to be clear, it was Geneon's US devision that shut down. The Japanese parent company is still alive and well from what I can tell, but seeing anything state side from them is pretty iffy at the moment.
That was what I was talking about. And it was my understanding that the US division was the one who had been doing Appleseed. Hence my wondering.
Finished watching Chobits the other day. I really fell for that series. I'm wary of very cutesy anime but that one stole my heart.

Well, if past trends are any indication, the parent company will take over US Distro and jack prices through the roof, which will, in turn throw US sales into a further downward trend. There's an article somewhere on 'Minaide, Hazukashii...', which is a pretty good blog when it comes to anime and the like.
If you can stomach IGN.com, I found two trailers there. I thought the story of the first Appleseed was pretty decent, and it looked great, but I had been burned by looks before, *cough, FFVII AC, *cough. Looks like I'll have to check it out. And while I was sad to hear that Geneon was going under, I wasn't too proud to take advantage of the buy 1 get 1 free that the local Suncoast had on all Geneon titles. It's how I got my Samurai Champloo.
I guess it depends on if you like the CGI format. I liked the Final Fantasy movie, but simply couldn't get past the art in Appleseed 2004 to pay attention to the story.
