Let's talk anime.

So I may have made the mistake of getting Crunchyroll's deal of the day this morning. And a package of 30 randomized cased anime discs may be coming in the mail soon...

Spoiler:

What was I thinking...[shakes head regretfully]

Oh well... if I get any middle-of-a-series discs, I'll post them here to see if I can help anyone's collection for the low, low price of shipping and handling.

I think those are a good thing for those of us who are new to anime. Gives you a random sample of anime that you can peruse and if you like something you can go get the entire series or whatever. Not so useful for those of us with several hundred discs worth however.

Edit: Just finished episode 12 of SAO. Damn.

I'm with you, Tuffalo. I like Arrietty more than Ponyo. But, then again, Ponyo is lower on my list in terms of Ghibli films so it didn't have to try hard haha. Also, you will love Ni No Kuni. I feel like I'm inside a Ghibli film!

Randoms are great ways to get series you might not come across otherwise. I've order grab bags from rightstuf several times, and watched a few good ones as a result. Let us know what you end up with, duplicates, middle-of-series, or not.

I've been watching Requiem from the Darkness on Netflix streaming. It's a little like Mushi-shi on acid. Striking colors, an aggressive art style, and the stories are routinely violent and grotesque. If you like creepy staring eyeballs and bells that look like they're made out of brains, give it a shot.

I watched episode 14 of Psycho Pass last night. Damn, that show is brutally gory sometimes.

Spoiler:

hammer --> face

Also... baseball bats...

Gdamn I'm loving this show, it's funny cause i'm watching Bakuman at the same time and i just realized that Psycho Pass is kind of like the guys new idea for a manga, a battle of ideals. Peaceful conformity or violent free thought (i'm generalizing too much but you get the idea)

Why yes, a show that's sold to me as "Mushi-shi but more violent and grotesque" is exactly what I need to sleep better at night...

Just because it has a willow tree that cuts a lady's head off and then she drops her baby which starts to cry until it's silenced forever by her falling body doesn't mean it's nightmare fuel.

Now, the part where a dude throws a rotting child at someone, that is nightmare fuel.

Now that you've made it absolutely certain I will never ever watch this show.....

I'm going to be rewatching the last two episodes of Gintama A LOT. They were easily some of the best in the series. Today's was just phenomenal.

Just watched the end of that episode for the fourth time. I think it's just been such a long time since I've seen a good anime fight. Bleach never really had any, Naruto maybe has one every 200 episodes. Gintama messes around a lot, but they can really delivery when they want to.

So Robotics;Notes has officially hit that point with episode 16. And I'm still not sure where it's going!

Spoiler:

Can't imagine they killed off two characters in one episode. Have to wait till next week to see what happened to the other character though...

I didn't realize that the Blu-ray of Grave of the Fireflies became available in November last year. I ordered it and a box of Kleenex.

Production I.G did their new GitS presentation today. If I'm understanding this right, it's a series of 4 prequel movies(?) under the banner of Ghost in the Shell: Arise. First one is out in June with Blu-Ray release in July. Didn't see mention of a US release.

I'm always excited for more GitS, but I thought SAC 2nd gig did a good job with the Colonel's backstory and I don't think there's a real need to delve much further into it. Maybe I'm just a grump in the minority here.

Also, Nexon is making a multiplayer F2P FPS game based on the Stand Alone Complex universe.

FTFY

It's been a very long time since I've seen it, so I don't remember a lot other than being sad afterwards.

Just finished the Switch back-story arc on Sket Dance... Blew me away. Wow.

Spoiler:

I kept waiting for the gag that never came... Way darker than I expected for this anime.

Yeh, I really liked what they did with that one. Sket Dance is incredible.

I just finished watching 5 Centimeters Per Second. Holy crap, I'm now super depressed.

Oh man, that anime wrecked me. Just touched a cord with me I guess.

Yeah that was a very well done bittersweet anime.

I hate bittersweet anime. I want giant robots and improbable martial arts and...and...not to feel so sad! /runs off crying

You people are rad. Yeah, it struck a chord with me, too. Being a bit of an introverted pessimist helps.

INTP?

I used to test as an introvert in high school. Now, I test ambivert. 5 Centimeters Per Second resonates very strongly with me because I was Tohno. I let go of my first love because I knew that she and I were not going to be good together. I wanted a family. She didn't. I wanted a stable home I will root in for decades. She wanted to travel. Even as an introvert, I connected with community. She was a very staunch individualist. Despite sharing a lot of common interests, and a great deal of admiration on my part, it could not have ended well.

I helped her find a guy she could spend her life with. I still see her Facebook updates. We connect every once in a while. She seems very happy, and that makes me happy (in a bittersweet sort of way).

I want to think that Tohno ended up the same way.

Strangely, 5cm is the one Makoto Shinkai movie I still haven't seen. I was blown away by Voices From a Distant Star... and then my mind was blown further when I found out he basically did the whole thing on his home pc, mostly on his own.

Teaser for the new GITS:Arise is out !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb1c-...

Chihayafuru -- Season 2 continues to be great. I can't wait for the end of the season.

...whelp, I guess I know which anime movie I need to hunt down now...

That's insane. That flic and fireflies are two films I know are good and will activity avoid seeing. Too damn sad.

The new ending sequence to Ixion Saga DT has me busting up laughing .
Looks like Fairy Tail is trying to get an episode per [manga] chapter. I assume that they are trying to avoid catching up too rapidly, so far it is working, so that's good.
