GWJ OOTP League Thread

In other news, Pittsburgh & Baltimore, will one of you just WIN THE DIVISION ALREADY?

DONE!

We are looking forward to the match up against Seattle in the first round. Pierogies went 8-6 against Seattle this season so it should be an interesting series.

Pittsburgh and Seattle swapped players prior to the 2012 season, with MR Bradley White and 2 other prospects going to Pittsburgh and C Javier Martinez going to Seattle. Martinez was unhappy in Pittsburgh and publicly criticized the management, prompting his quick exit and allowing the Pierogies to acquire their current catcher and power hitting Allen Osborne in the offseason.

Bradley White was converted to middle reliever/spot starter prior to this season and put together a 5-3 record with a 4.18 ERA. "I'm excited to face my old team mates," said the 23-yr old right hander. "I have nothing but respect for them, except for that Martinez guy. He seems like a real jerk."

I want to give everyone who got in (and those who didn't) a little while to think and evaluate their teams at the end of the season. To that extent, the playoffs will start on Friday UNLESS all the user-controlled playoff teams check in before that point to let me know they're ready to roll (only four users made the playoffs: myself, Farscry, Novocain and garion).

I should (barring any questions since this'll obviously be my first playoff setup!) have my team ready by the end of tonight. Not in order to rush anyone else, just because I have the time to get my team setup.

For the every-day sims during playoffs, will they continue to be after midnight eastern time? Just so I know when the "deadline" to check in every day is.

Well, I for one am glad we have Wild Card teams.

I'll get my team setup and let you know when I'm ready to kick some Vancouver butt.

Locked and loaded.

Yeah, mine is ready too.

The Atlanta Knights are as ready as I think I can make them... good luck everyone!

Woo! Denver finished 3 games below .500, going 78-84! Considering we lost 100 games last year, great progress was made (yeah yeah I know about expansion, whatever )

Good luck to all the playoff teams!

Yup.

Playoffs will kick off Wednesday night!

Update 5.

OOTP wrote:

• Added an option to the in-game options to set the play-by-play font size
• Added a "Quick play to RISP" button to the in-game screen, it quick-sims the game until there are runners in scoring position or the half-inning is over
• The control settings (i.e. offense, pitching, defense etc.) of the in-game screen is now saved and restored when restarting OOTP
• Added an option to the league standing screen to select a date for the displayed standings, enabling users to examine past standings
• Added a "Delete all available personnel" function to the league transaction screen (must be in commish mode)
• Teams no longer sign foreign coaches when the league prohibits foreign players
• Added WAR and ZR to the stats displayed in the team history year page
• Improved the RTS broadcast report in online leagues
• Fixed several bugs

Nothing critical, it seems. Be nice if they said which bugs got fixed.

We'll sim tonight and update immediately afterwards.

New file! Remember, please patch to the latest version by tonight for the next sim (you've got until after midnight, so no rush).

The playoffs are underway, and Vancouver is DISPLEASED. We're in a 2-0 hole after two excruciating one-run losses to Baltimore that featured a 20-win pitcher surrendering a lead, and then our star closer blowing a two-run lead by giving up three runs in the top of the 9th. And Ramon Gomez is 1-8. If Miguel Angel Cortez can't get a W, this season may end up basically being a disaster for us.

Pittsburgh is completely outmatching Seattle, outscoring them 14-2 in the first two games. The series is 2-0 there as well.

Atlanta and LA are knotted at 1-1, after Atlanta recovered from a 7-1 loss in game one to take Game Two 4-0 on three less hits than LA had.

And Dallas is down 2-0 to Charlotte after the Angels scored two in the bottom of the 9th to send the game to extra innings, and then won it in the 10th on a walk-off HR.

I'm not going to have any fingernails left by the time this series is over.

Beating Vancouver will be almost enough for me to call this season and success.

One of those runs was a bases loaded walk to a guy who batted .237 during the regular season. Nice.

And now we're headed home, which should be fun for you.

Edit: Locked and loaded.

My SPs are apparently studs. I probably just jinxed them.
RF Craig Peterson will be healthy by the next sim, will I be able to add him to the playoff roster, or is that set in stone?

Updated, uploaded and ready to go.

Wow. I had no idea that if a player is injured during a playoff series, you can't swap them out of the playoff roster and put in another eligible player in their place.

/reserved sigh

New file!

Pittsburgh completed a four-game sweep of Seattle, outscoring them 25-6.

Vancouver is on the brink after getting one back in game 3, but a four-hit gem by Anthony Harris has them with no more room for mistakes, down 3-1.

Home cooking didn't help for Atlanta, as Los Angeles took games three and four to build a 3-1 lead.

And finally, Charlotte finished off Dallas in four games. Is the fact that they won those games by 3, 1, 2 and 1 runs a good sign, or were they barely able to get by an average team?

Curses! Someone needs to slip some laxatives to the Los Angeles team's dinner!

Good news, Pred! Guess who I'm starting for tonight's game?

Edit: Locked and loaded.

Question: I know we're simming two league days for each night that Pred runs the sim, but will that work out to allow for roster adjustments between series? I'm not expecting to beat LA for the playoffs, but I was just wondering how that works since it won't let you pull someone off the playoffs-eligible roster to replace an injured player mid-series.

Well, that's the crap thing about the playoffs. You only get to choose 25 guys, and if someone blows out a rotator cuff, you're screwed, because those 25 guys are the only guys you get. You can mix and match how you want to play those guys, but they're still your guys.

New file!

Farewell to Atlanta, who fought LA valiantly but just couldn't get the job done. A thrilling 3-2 extra-inning victory in Game 5 cut their defecit to 3-2, but LA's bats won Game 6, and the Millionaires will face the Charlotte Angels in the LCS.

Meanwhile, Vancouver refuses to die, the team of veterans digging deep to tie the series at 3-3 and force a pivotal Game 7. Donald Ray outpitched Edgardo Abreu for a skin-of-their-teeth comeback win in Game 5, and then they knocked around Donald McCoy and got fantastic pitching from Miguel Angel Cortez for a 5-1 road win in Game 6. Who will win Game 7? Can Jeremy Drew, who has been badly beaten by Baltimore so far, get a W? Can late-season acquisition Anthony Harris continue his fantastic playoff form and get a W in his first career Game 7?

Dammit, I didn't want McCoy to start. I set someone else in the lineups since he hasn't been up to format all season thanks to injury. Dammit. Well, Pred, best of luck to you. Or worst of luck. Whichever.

Edit: Locked and loaded. Unless I'm missing something you can run this whenever you're ready.

Hey, I'm just surprised and happy that my team made it to the playoffs in my inaugural season. Can't complain about getting knocked out by LA!

Yeah, just twirling my thumbs over here. Not sure if we rather face Baltimore or Vancouver.
We have the identical and mediocre 6-9 record against both team.

At least we'll be well rested and I get my all-star RF Craig Peterson back in the lineup from the DL.

Congratulations to....

....Vancouver, who completed their comeback tonight with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Baltimore to advance to the League Championship Series against Pittsburgh. Two homeruns apiece from Loren Gill and Tom Decker did the damage, and while Baltimore managed a furious comeback attempt in the 7th and 8th innings, David Weaver shut the door in the 9th inning, giving up a walk and a single before striking out Luis Martinez to end the Bridgeburners' season.

Baltimore will absolutely be disappointed with the result after having taken a 3-1 lead over Vancouver. Now the two best teams in the Northern League will face off to see who makes the championship series. Pittsburgh and Baltimore both have one of the league's best offenses and pitching staffs, who will make their way to the championship?

Woot, congrats. That was a really exciting series.

I uploaded my file and you can sim the next one whenever.

Gah! I hate Vancouver. I'm coming for you Pred. You will be mine. Oh yes, you will be mine (in the game).

Best of luck to ya.

I would love to get back into OOTP. I mainly play historical seasons, but would love to try an online league, if there is an opening.

I recommend taking over one of the teams in the Southern League since the Northern League is filled with a bunch of juggernaut teams like Baltimore and Vancouver. 3 20+ game winners, wassup with that?

We currently using OOTP13. We'll be in the offseason (winter of 2013, in-game date) in about a week or two.

Yup, there's always room for more folks. Stay tuned, we'll be into the offseason soon, and once we are, you can absolutely join-up.
