Stating in 1900 is fun, but I honestly think it would be too foreign in a mp setting. A lot of us remember the 90's though, I'm sure.
Hmm, let's see:
Average team with average history with less than average prospects
vs
The Wild Unknown
Let's do this, boss!

I'm not sure how it would be too foreign? I mean at the end of the day it's still just a numbers game, isn't it? It'd just be different numbers for stats/ratings than we'd be used to.
However, I'd be just as fine starting in the familiar territory of the 90s as well. I just like the idea that we're starting from scratch, so I'd be up for whatever.
The rest of the rules you laid out work for me for the most part, Pred. The one rule I'm a little iffy on is the salary cap. I'd like to mirror the MLB, but I'd also not like to see one team get on a run that allows them to keep outbidding other teams for players simply because they have the bigger budget. That might just be from personal experience of running Portland and simply not being able to keep/afford free agents. It is also entirely possible that I was just a horrible manager and could have made it work which makes me wary of suggesting a cap in the first place. While I want the league to be as authentic to the real thing, I also don't want to see owners get discouraged because they simply don't have the payroll.
I vote for '88, I think that is when the trends that led into the 90s era we all remember so fondly really started to manifest. The mid-20s might be fun to for all the offense.
No steroid-era please.
I like the idea of a long history pre-generated before we start. Would be cool to select the award names too based on that history.
As for salary cap, I think the other revenue-based stuff may mean it is not needed, however I guess we can see after a couple of seasons.
So the playoffs will be a one tier World Series and that's it?
The rest of the rules look fine I think.
Someday this forum will fix this bug. Or move the damn edit button away from the damn quote button.
Someday.
I would agree with 1988
just got the game and still figuring it out, still have room in the league?
So Pred are you going to run the league for some amount of time to generate history? Or are we starting cold? I'm fine either way, there's pros and cons whichever way you go. I thought that was where the 1900 idea came in. I don't think anyone here wants to play in the dead ball era.

Well, the game has ways of attacking this. First off is the way teams are doing it in real life. Accept sucking for 3-5 years, build up talent through drafts, then get good. Second is the salary cap. Third would be having a Set Percentage of Income shared between all teams (the default is 20%). And lastly, there's the Luxury Tax option.
Yeah, that's basically what I figured--build up through the draft. So a little more strategic for owners of the smaller clubs. And making sure you protect those young players from the Rule 5 Draft (which I may have forgot to do a couple of seasons )
I'm interested in coming back and taking a team in the new league if you still have some slots? One thing I'd suggest based on other leagues I've played in the past: base the size of the league on the number of human players. AI players can become a scourge and it is better in the long run to keep the league small than have too many AI teams. You can always expand if you get more people interested in taking a team. Either way, I'm still in if you have a spot.
I checked the forums and the other OOTP thread is dead. Is it Ok to post general questions and comments here, or should I revive the old thread?

I anticipate that El Paso will finish second to last in our first season, ahead of San Diego of course.
