GWJ OOTP League Thread

Meanwhile, there's still no daylight between Phoenix and New Orleans. After a 5-2 win for New Orleans in Game 5, Phoenix stormed back with a 9-1 win in Game 6 to force a Game 7. Both teams are looking for their first-ever Championship appearance, but who'll be booking their ticket to Philadelphia?

Hmmm..........

Game 5: Phoenix 8, New Orleans 6
Game 6: New Orleans 9, Phoenix 1

Go home, Prederick, you're drunk.....

Epic game 7 pitching match-up...

Kevin MacCririe (0-3, 8.02) vs. Dan Robinson (0-2, 8.76)

Laarrs, this might get ugly.

Maybe. Wouldn't surprise me to see a pitching duel break out, I mean, they both had sub 4 ERA's during the regular season. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm getting a jump on next year a little early, but it seems like trade talks take forever anyhow. I'm looking to move a guy or two out of my very crowded outfield, I currently have 4 above average-to-elite hitters in my lineup, and I need to make room for a prospect to call up next season. This season stats:

Israel Sanchez, CF/RF .299 AVG/.386 OBP/.467 SLG, 22 home runs
Antonio Trejo, RF .344 AVG/.409 OBP/.605 SLG, 24 home runs in 107 games started
Caden Moore, LF/RF .319 AVG/.351 OBP/.503 SLG, 31 home runs
Ramon Medina, LF/RF .350 AVG/.412 OBP/.601 SLG, 36 home runs

On that note, I'm open to moving my top prospect catcher Roland Lee. He is ranked the #34 prospect in the NABL.

Don't trade him until I get a chance to look. If he's good at catching, I'm all over that. Been looking for a long term answer at catcher for years.

Hey, this is probably late notice but I can't keep up on this game and haven't for months. My gaming habits have had to change with life situations and I don't think that reverts in the visible future. Thanks for letting me play, sorry I didn't stick around longer for the full rebuild.

Game 7's are usually taut affairs, and this one was no different. At least for 7 innings.

Phoenix was in the lead for 6 innings, tied after 7 as Kevin MacCririe managed to battle through six walks and seven hits to surrender just a single run. But in the 8th, disaster, as Oscar Green, one of the team's most reliable relievers, surrendered four runs without getting a single out (on just 14 pitches, no less). By the time Phoenix came up for the top of the 9th, New Orleans had staked themselves out to a 6-1 lead, and Bartolo Rivera closed the door.

So, the NABL Championship is set! It's Laars' New Orleans Tsunami against the Philadelphia Renegades! Whoever wins will be picking up their first-ever title.

New file!

No worries! Thanks for the time you did put in.

Oh man! Another game 7 SLCS loss.

Congrats Laarrs and good luck.

Thank you, pizzaddict. It's a shame that one of us had to lose.

Pred, I just tried to download the file, but it said there wasn't a new one available.

Weird! Try now!

Also this happened in our playoff game

" Robert Lang sets the SL playoff game record for bases on balls with 4."

I've got a prospect stuck in Triple A right now that's available for a trade. He's stuck behind Robert Lang right now, and I'm probably going to try and sign Lang to a long term contract. He's the 91st ranked prospect, and he's hit 26 and 31 home runs the last 2 seasons in Triple A, respectively.

David Buchanan

New file!

Things are off to an even start, as the teams split the first two games in New Orleans. Back to Philadelphia for games 3 and 4!

I'm good to go on the next sim. I'm not real happy that both Eric Rogers and Harold Quero managed to hurt themselves during the last game. Glad there are days off for rest every couple games.

edit: nevermind

New file!

Games 3 and 4 are down, and we still can't find space between our competitors!

Caden Moore won Game 3 for New Orleans, managing to turn a 1-3 day at the plate into 4 RBIs (without an extra-base hit, mind you!) that, combined with a Russ Roberts masterpiece (8.1 IP, 2 R, 8 K's) that saw the Tsunami win 6-2.

But Philly came right back in Game 4, knocking five runs in off Carlos Medina in the 6th and 7th innings as Errol Brown pitched his own fine game (8 IP, 3 R, 9 K's) to knot the series yet again at 2-2.

It's a best of 3 now, one game in Philly, two more in New Orleans. Will this series go the distance? Stay tuned!

And the answer is.....

...yup.

Game 7 is upon us! Philadelphia had the edge, bashing in 7 runs to cruise to a 7-2 victory in Game 5, but New Orleans returned to their home field for Game 6 and, despite giving up 4 runs in the first two innings, chipped away at Philly's lead until Robert Lang traipsed home with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th. Bartolo Rivera notched his 5th save of the playoffs to set up a final Game 7!

Who will go home with the championship? The projected starters are Errol Brown (5-1, 2.25 ERA)* and Carlos Medina (4-1, 4.60 ERA) and this one could go either way. This will be the third time each team's aces are facing off in this playoff series, and they've split the proceedings at a game apiece. We have a feeling this one will be a doozy!

*-Postseason stats

So, first off, new file!

Second, since it's a NABL Championship game 7, I'm going to live broadcast it, either Sunday (hopefully) or Monday night, before we'll roll on to the postseason!

Damn, this is killing me. I'll be keeping any eye out for the live broadcast, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to watch it without going crazy, hehe.

BAH!

This is what I get for... things.

Either way, we WILL be livestreaming Game 7 TONIGHT. I have to run one last errand, but the livestream will start no later than 8:30 PM EST!

3 innings down! It's tied at 0-0, both teams have 2 hits, but no-one's managed to plate a run yet.

Six innings down! Jose Ortega's run-scoring single in the 5th is the difference between the teams so far. With three innings left, it's 1-0 New Orleans.

Crap, I had to work late, then go shopping. I forgot it was going tonight, lol. Only 1 out to go until championship time!

Congrats Laarrs!

Wow. Sometimes, the drama in baseball is a slow burn. Carlos Medina outpitched Errol Brown, going 8 innings, striking out 10, walking 3 and giving up just 4 hits in a all-time performance. Bartolo Rivera slammed the door in the 9th, giving New Orleans their first-ever title.

The disappointment is strong in Philadelphia though. This is their third chance at a NABL title, and third failure.

That said, this was a helluva series for fans to watch. All 7 games were decided by 2, 3, 4, 2, 5, 1 and 1 runs.

And with that, we roll on towards the offseason! Salary arbitration, free agents, and more! Keep an eye out.

New file!

Congrats Laarrs!

On a side note...

I just finished my 31st(I think) season of my solo league. My Austin Warships led the division most of the way but then faltered a bit at the end and lost the division to the Sacramento Bricklayers by 1 game on the last day of the season. Luckily we still made the wild card.

We beat the Bronx Bombers in the first round 3 games to 2 to move onto the ALCS to face the same Sacramento Bricklayers in a best of 7. We quickly got down 3 games to 0 but then stormed back to take the series 4-3.

After losing the first game of the World Series to the Philadelphia River Rats we reeled off 3 games in a row to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series. We then got behind early in game 4 and the River Rats lead 6-0 late. We were able to put up some runs in the late innings and headed to the bottom of the ninth down 6-4. With 2 out and 2 on, my catcher launches a 3 run homer to win the game and the world series!!

Considering my owners expectation was a .500 season, I think we did alright.

So! New file and roll on to the offseason!

So, first things first. Owners, please make sure to be active in the offseason. If you cannot, for any reason, let me know. An inactive owner in the offseason can really screw up a team, since they basically won't make ANY offseason moves, ending up with a team with a pitching staff of 5 dudes from AA.

New owners! Hey, are you reading this and you want to join the league? Did you leave the league and want back in? Did you buy OOTP 15 on discount somewhere and just feel like trying it out? Well, drop me a PM, and we can add you to the festivities here!

I should also note here, we will be sticking with OOTP 15, for the immediate future. I'd still like us to make the jump to 16, but there's no rush.

So, the offseason! If you're unfamiliar with what goes on, ask some questions! If you have some suggestions for the league, let em' fly!

The new sim schedule will be one week, every day, outside of Winter Meetings (one day each sim).

New file!

I hope you all took this time to evaluate your teams, figure out what you do and don't need, cuz' we're hitting the ground running from here on out!
