GWJ OOTP League Thread

Did my upload not take? I moved my roster around a bit to get some younger guys some reps, but it doesn't appear anything happened.

It's All Star weekend. OOTP16 is 50% off.

New file! And just like that, the season is over!

Congratulations to our playoff contenders, and best of luck next year to those of you who didn't make it! Here's the playoff matchups:

Buffalo v. Vancouver
Philadelphia v. Boston

Phoenix v. Las Vegas
Los Angeles v. New Orleans

End of Year Notes -

The season's best team? The Las Vegas Gamblers, who finished at 102-60 and, a year after becoming the first team in league history to repeat as champions, are staring down the possibility of a unprecedented three-peat.

Best hitter? The purists will say Brian Burke, but I think a lot of people will give it to Vancouver's Loren Gill for leading the NL in both batting average and RBIs, plus putting up 43 HRs.

Best pitcher? Was there ever any question? Francis Riley finishes the season with an absurd WAR of 18.38, beating the previous record (set by him) by nearly four full points. Riley finished this season with career bests in ERA, Innings Pitched, Strikeouts and ERA+.

Any surprises? Well, Las Vegas, for one. We had them finishing almost 20 wins below where they ended up, but we also had San Diego winning the division. And we're still not sure where Toshiharu Hirata came from exactly, but damned if he isn't fun to watch. 35% of the man's hits were homers, so if you're into home runs, he's your guy.

So, on to the playoffs! Those of you who are in, please set your rosters ASAP. The festivities will begin in earnest on Friday!

Just a reminder about scheduling. The playoffs go at a much faster pace than the regular season. I will be simming every day, two games each sim, with a one-day break between rounds (Division Series / League Championship Series / etc.)

When we reach the end of the season, we will make a decision on upgrading to OOTP 16 (heads-up now, we're probably gonna jump).

And it's currently $19.99 for the allstar break.

BLAH. Fine. Starting Sunday.

Anyway, the first two games of the Divisional Series are down!

Vancouver and New Orleans are up 2-0, everyone else is at 1-1. Let's see how things will shake out tomorrow!

Oops, forgot to get my playoff roster set. Only have 22 players on it now and no backup catcher. Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite me in the a$$.

New file!

Vancouver, Philly and New Orleans are all up 3-1, but Phoenix and Las Vegas are wrapped up at 2-2.

New file!

Las Vegas! Phoenix! Game 7!

Odd stat of the series, I've won all 3 of my games by a score of 3-0 and the pitcher going for me in game 7 was the winner of 2 of those games.

New file! There will be a new champion this season!

In an absolutely THRILLING Game 7, Phoenix eliminated the returning 2-time champs Las Vegas 5-4. You gotta see the box score on this one for yourself. Holy hell.

So, that's the LCS set then. It's Philly vs. Vancouver, and Phoenix vs. New Orleans

Also, in other news, my OOTP 16 game spit out one of the most amazing pitching lines I've ever seen.

An 11-inning no-no, and he takes the L.

Oh man! Free agent pick-up Juan Rosario comes through for me on the road with the big go ahead homerun in the top of the 13th. Also of note 3 strong relief innings from Angelo Durango.

On the downside the only reason we got to extras is because my stud reliever Oscar "Cricket" Green gave up 2 in the 8th. The guys been virtually unhittable all season so I'm hoping this is a fluke and not him caving under pressure.

Bring it on New Orleans!

I really hate the playoff roster rules though. I had 2 catchers on my roster all season. Mid September my stud starting catcher goes on the DL. I pick up a new backup catcher through free agency. Per the playoff roster rules I'm not allowed to add that guy to my playoff roster because he wasn't on my team before Sept. 1. My other guy is still on the DL so now I'm forced to have only 1 catcher on my roster. On top of that, my guy comes off the DL in 6 days but because I'll be in the middle of my series with New Orleans I wont' be allowed to add him to my roster until after the series.

So essentially I've been stuck with 1 catcher on my roster and there is nothing I can do about it. I just have to hope that one catcher doesn't get tired or injured.

Just picked up OOTP 15 from the Humble Bundle deal. If by chance you guys don't jump to 16, could I hop in on the next league? WARNING: As yet, I have no idea what I'm doing.

Edit: Punctuation

In a related note. I don't think I'll be picking up 16 this year. I'm in another league that updates ever other year so if I pick up 16 now I'll have to turn around and pick up 17 in a handful of months. Also, I missed the sale on 16 and finances are a bit tight right now.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I won't be picking up 16 this year, so if we are moving to that soon, I'll have to let it slip over to AI control. Arg.

Mmm, hearing that, I'm thinking we may stay on OOTP 15 until next year, then. What does everyone else think?

New file! The LCS begins! And hey, it's 1-1 all around!

Good for me - there'll probably be a dirt cheap steam sale before next season in any case.

If you guys do stick with 15- anything I need to do before next season to join (besides learn a lot more about baseball)?

Not really. I'd simply say you should take some time and fool around with the game itself. Learn about the Rule 5 Draft, about Waivers, Designating Players for Assignment, about whether or not it's a smart idea to give the guy who won 18 games but had a FIP of 4.51 a big contract. Stuff like that.

I'm thinking I may also turn up AI trading frequency, since it's so hard to trade with them, maybe moving it up a notch will have them sending more trade ideas our way.

But it's sounding like we're going to stick with OOTP 15. Is that right?

I vote stay at OOTP 15.

I'm not really in favor of turning up AI trading frequency unless someone is going to watch the AI to AI trading. In my experience the only real flaw in OOTP is still AI trading. They tend to make some really stupid trades.

BTW Pred, if you and Larrs are up for it I'd be up with simming more frequently through the playoffs, I check it every night anyway.

Is the other thread the one for questions still? Looks like it's been pretty quiet over there the last 4 years.

I'm a bit biased, but I also vote we stay at OOTP 15 for now as well.

No kidding....

Sounds fine to me.

I have thoroughly ruined my team and ran it to the ground, and it seemed like a good time to bow out of the league. But if we are sticking with OOTP15 I'm happy to give it another honest shot for another rebuilding season

I am ok with staying or upgrading.

Yeah, I'm sorry about that everyone. We should be doing that, but my Dad's been in and out of the hospital a bit the last two months, and I've gotten distracted a bit. I'll get back on it.

(He's okay, by the way, so no worries.)

New file!

It was 1-1 before, now both series are all tied up a 2-2!

Phoenix is exported and ready to go.

New file!

Philly is good. Frustratingly good. Good enough to beat Vancouver's bullpen in Game 5, and then smash 14 runs off their starters in Game 6 to send the Renegades to their 3rd Championship appearance. Philly's 0-2 so far in Championships, will the third time be the charm?

Meanwhile, there's still no daylight between Phoenix and New Orleans. After a 5-2 win for New Orleans in Game 5, Phoenix stormed back with a 9-1 win in Game 6 to force a Game 7. Both teams are looking for their first-ever Championship appearance, but who'll be booking their ticket to Philadelphia?
