GWJ OOTP League Thread

If it's not too late, I would like to move OF Higashi. Looking to add a SP or 1B.

GETTING CLOSER TO BEING BACK.

Hopefully. I think. Maybe.

Don't ya just love that new computer smell?

I'm hoping it doesn't smell like "accidentally burned out CPU/Graphics card/motherboard/etc"

Hmmm. Weird. Hopefully this is not a double post, but my previous disappeared.

Anyway, I'm not sure how often you folks check the OOTP forums, but Markus posted a dream job for someone yesterday and I thought I'd post it here:

'...

Advance notice: We're hiring a C++ developer!

Hey guys,

the past years have been pretty amazing for us and the company has grown slowly but steadily. The trend certainly continues, and because I personally am slowly getting beyond my limits in terms of how much workload I can handle, we have decided that we will be hiring another C++ developer soon who will join me in developing the desktop version of OOTP.

In case you don't know yet, we are a company based in Germany (Hamburg), and unfortunately young & talented game developers (C++) who know that baseball is a game without goalkeepers are pretty rare over here. In fact, I am pretty sure we've already uncovered the only other one apart from me, which is Sebastian, who is our iOOTP developer and also the lead develoepr of FHM. So, we've come to the conclusion that we should expand our horizon and look on the other side of the great pond.

So, what are we exactly looking for, first the must-haves:
- Open-minded, dynamic and talented game developer with knowledge & exeperience developing complex applications using C++
- Preferably a master of computer science degree or something comparable
- Advanced knowledge about baseball / MLB (sabermetrics, game strategy, history). Basically, you should be a huge fan of the sport.
- A skill for communication and team-oriented working habits

Now the nice-to-haves:
- Experience with 3D programming (OpenGL)
- Writing skills (think news articles etc.)
- Some basic knowledge of web-based application development would be nice (PHP, Java)

Okay, now comes the difficult part I suppose (or the best part, depending on the preference of the individual): In order to learn the OOTP code base and how we work, the person we'll hire will have to move to Hamburg, Germany, for at least 6 months and work in the OOTP Developments headquarter office. Maybe this sounds a bit scary, but let me tell you, the city is wonderful, very open-minded and one of the best places to live in the entire world. Also, language should not be an issue, most people do indeed speak English here, and most people really enjoy doing so.

Alright... if you are interested in joining the coolest tiny company in the world, send me an email with your full resume & other stuff you think could convince us to get you on board. markus(at)ootpdevelopments.com

Cheers!
Markus

DEMONSTRABLY CLOSER

In the meantime if anyone is interested one of my other leagues has a couple openings. It is a historical league and we are currently in the 1977 season. The Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles are open. I actually ran the Rangers last season but am taking over the expansion Seattle Mariners this coming season. Here is the link to the website http://painmantle.com/

If anyone is interested let me know and I'll get you hooked up.

EDIT: NEVERMIND.

Guess what everybody! We're back up and running!

The next sim will be MONDAY ya'll! Hooray!

I don't think I remember how to play this game, if I ever did, lol.

I am quite pleased to say...

...new file!

I hope you'll all forgive me, I just blew through the Trade Deadline, since we lost so much time.

Wait...what is happening? OOTP IS BACK?!

Damn you were a skinny kid, Cpt.

Funny enough, that kid really isn't too far off from how I actually looked as a child.

A sweep of Denver was just what we needed to get back in the wildcard hunt...although the division is looking fairly out of reach at the moment with Philly 6.5 games up and with the pedal to the metal on offense. I'll just have to hope my pitching can hold up down the stretch...

A sweep of Denver is apparently what everybody needs. Except for Denver.

New file!

I really can't underline how much of a shock this season has been for Vancouver. IN NO WAY did I have us being this good, especially with the raft of injuries to guys I thought would be key players for us this season. We just got back our regular closer, only two members of our regular pitching staff have ERAs under 4.00 at the moment, we're not the best hitting team in the league, and yet we just ripped off another 10-game winning streak. I really don't have an answer for this.

Okay, next order of business for our league: It's June 12, and the All-Star game is a little over a month away. That means, within the next month or so, we're going to be turning over from OOTP 14 to OOTP 15 in the near future. Get ready!

New file!

Baltimore, RF Andrew Thomas isn't going away that easy. He refuses to be demoted, so he's back on the active roster.

Man the SL West is brutal. Went 5-2 and dropped from 2nd to 3rd. The #3, 4, 5, and 6 teams in the power rankings are all from our division. We have 4 teams with at least 68 wins, there are only 3 other teams in the whole league that have as many wins. This will be a fun fight to the division and wild card spots.

Eh, it's the AI. I haven't touched the game yet. No time.

New file!

We're almost to September, and the race for the playoffs isn't a joke!

Only Vancouver and Philly are nearly assured of playoff appearances. But while San Fran and Denver have their eyes on the post-season, Boston and Buffalo are still within striking distance of the wild-card spots.

Meanwhile, SEVEN of the Southern League's 12 teams can say they're still in the playoff hunt. Memphis is only a game ahead of Charlotte and New Orleans, while Las Vegas is clinging to a 1 1/2 game lead over San Diego, with Phoenix and LA keeping it close. Whoever wins, it looks like the SL West will be heavily represented in the playoffs, as it will probably produce both of the Wild Card teams as well.

OOTP 15 is $10 off during the Steam sale. Will it go lower? Who knows?

That's what I was wondering as well. How much did they take off the price during the all star break last year?

If I remember right, it has been 50% at the break.

I'm out for at eight or nine days starting tomorrow. I'll try to get the game installed on a laptop, but if not I'll miss you all with the fiery passion of a 1000 Steam sales.

It was $20 last year but only $10 off the years before that so I'm not sure what to expect this year.

Is Pred's box dead again?

Whoop! No, I just LOST TRACK of the weekend. I apologize. It was beautiful out, friends were having gatherings, alcohol was involved, a perfect storm of distraction, really.

But! I gave everyone an extra few days to use add men to their rosters since Roster Expansion happened, eh? Eh?

Shut up.

New file!

Game is set to go on sale for $10! It's part of a vote that likely won't win, but that means it's gonna hit a daily deal for that low. Wow.

I came over to post the same info :). I at least voted for it, so with any luck folks who haven't bought it yet might get a cheap score. Voting ends around 12:30 EST today.

LIAR! I tried getting a new file this morning before work (~5:00am EST) and I got the "No new files found" message.
