HabitRPG.com - A Social RPG-themed Habit and Goal Tracker

IMAGE(https://habitrpg.com/marketing/devices.png)

The idea behind HabitRPG.com is to turn your daily routines, goals, and general to-do lists into an old school RPG. Completing daily habits, goals, and to-dos earn you XP, gold, and loot. Failing to complete them costs you health. Equipping your character, choosing your appearance and class, and staying alive help motivate you to continue with your goals and habits. The more often you complete a task, however, the less rewards you get, and the more HP you'll loose for failing.

In addition to the rewards and penalties, HabitRPG also features a party system, where a group of people can help track each others progress on goals as they work together to complete quests and defeat boss monsters to earn special loot.

It sounds interesting and might actually help me keep on track to all the things I intend to do throughout the day, but always get distracted (usually by an RPG) from doing.

Anyone else interesting in giving it a shot and forming a party?

Looks interesting - let me check it out Mantid and if I like it Id certainly be interested in partying up.

Sadly, there's a part of me that says why should I work on self improvement when I should be leveling in Diablo 3.

I need something like this so i can keep up with my daily physical therapy exercises at home.

Alright. Well if/when your ready, send me your user IDs. They are found under Social (the heart at the top) -> Party.

Arise thread! For idling in the slack channel it turns out there are still some folks using HabitRPG (now called Habitica).

I've created a party so fellow Goodjers can go adventuring together - you can search for "Goodjers with habits". Else as Mantid has posted above, you can send me your User ID's

I recently signed up for Habitica thanks to a post by Kronen over on the Success thread as I needed some extra motivation to help me get my yard cleaned up among other things that have been difficult to accomplish due to months of not feeling well.

I'm still trying to get a feel for things, so not sure if I'm ready for joining parties because of being such low level, but my userid is bekkilyn there, same as here.

I'm especially excited today as I reached level 3 and got a white wolf pet!!! It won't let me name it in the game, but in my head I'm calling it Diefenbaker.

Thinking of joining it. Has it kept people's interest?

I just realized I've been a user for 400 days or so now. The fun way it gamifies daily goals and longer term to-dos is effective and the quests are very cute. If it clicks, it's great using it to establish habits. It's totally free with a pretty good pay/subscription model if it really enthuses you.

Trying this now.

I'm not sure what the difference is between habit and to do lists.

Habits and dailies are very similar in that they always refresh every day. Habits are designed so that you can click up or down depending on how the habit forming process is progressing. Even with that functionality, if you click down your avatar loses hp which is a pretty steep punishment. I find myself not using the habit tab too much.

The to-do list doesn't refresh. Once a task is completed it goes away. This tab has become my de facto default shopping, honey-do, and chores list.

edit: did a check on the meaning of de facto...

Thanks that is helpful.

I tried this a couple of years ago but it didn't click with me. I don't remember exactly why but I do remember not feeling like the subscription price was worth it, and not feeling like the free model was robust enough.

It sounds like things have changed a bit though in the past couple of years. Maybe it's worth revisiting?

I just find that checklists don't work for me. I've tried a couple others besides this... I tend to forget or not get around to checking the lists or bothering to check items off.

Still love the idea though.

Integrating it into my everyday life was pivotal... I use the dailies to remind myself to do my fundamental drills for work (musician) and as a reminder to exercise and meditate. Using the to-do list for everyday tasks dropped in my lap has helped immensely too.

If anyone wants to team up and quest together let me know!

I opened a new account and entered a few daily tasks and habits to see how it works out. It seems streamlined and cleaner since I used it a few years ago.

As an aside, I've been constantly tweaking a system for keeping track of life and work. I used Toodledo for a long time, and was kind of happy with it. I also use Trello for simple project management, Google Keep for odds and ends, Voice Memos for recording quick things so I don't forget, and a few other apps for tracking habit streaks and specific checklists. About a year ago we started appying Scrum/Agile in work, and that has led me to move away from Toodledo to Trello and now into SmartSheet. I really like SmartSheet for complex project management, but the mobile features are a bit lacking for me think that I'm going to be happy using it as a way to track basic life/work things.

So I'm not done yet figuring out a system I'm happy with. Ideally, I'd like to condense things to 1-3 tools/apps, which I was hoping SmartSheet might give me.

I'm still using this. It hasn't replaced Toodledo, OneNote, or Scrivener but I still use it for things.

Anyone want to add me to their party?

ooo, i'm just about to complete a quest. you're more than welcome to hop in and steal it!

Cool here is my party id so you can add me.

shoot... i did better than average damage on my dailies today and ended up finishing the quest :-(.... Invite is still out there, but I'm up for any quest! I've purchased all the gold available ones, so i'd be interested in seeing if you can participate in a quest I purchase without having purchased it yourself.

Baron and I are knocking out quests left and right these days! If anyone wants to join us, we'd love to have you!

Partying up and using the habit tracker with buddies greatly reinforces accountability. Group questing has helped me push through barriers of consistency. Currently I'm on a 70 day meditation streak, so thanks Baron!

I just maxed my first character after using this program for ~2 years on-and-off and can whole-heartedly suggest rogue as a first class. It's very easy to specialize and be a massive gold/exp generation machine. Leveling other classes is much slower comparably.

There doesn't seem to be a Windows Phone version of this (I know, I'm as shocked as you are).

I 'could' install it on my Android Tablet, but I don't get to that as often as I should. I need a daily motivator, and this could be it. Does it work through a Web Browser, or purely an App driven thing?

Might need to reinstall and join everyone. I need to get back into the swing of things.

The web-based version is at http://habitica.com/

When I was using it regularly, I liked the web interface better than the mobile interface, actually. If I decide to get back into it, is the party ID Baron listed above still accurate?

Here is my user ID, so I can get in on the party action.

I tend to use a "To-Do" list pretty extensively, as I have limited sleep, and "my list is my life". Dailies, and the like, I really need, and I've just blocked in roughly how my week should flow on a printed out iCal sheet, so transferring over to this should be good.

It would probably just be better to got to the website on your phone anyway. I don't use the mobile version anymore and just use the website. However, they just updated it so maybe I'll checkout the mobile version again.

invitation sent!

We're just about to complete a quest you came just at the right time! Sorry for the late invitation!

You all look great!

Meanwhile, I'm rocking a t-shirt and a ponytail

Just spent some gold getting a sword, hopefully I won't die straight away

On top of the wolf egg and purple potion I found in my "items", I also saw two quests.

The Feral Dust Bunnies and Lunar Battle Part 1: Find the Mysterious Shards (which auto-replace keeps trying to write as shart ).

Are these designed as 'simple' single player quests to help out low level characters, of are the worth running with our group, once we've finished up the current one?

Is it advisable to only run one quest at a time, or can you do multiple ones?

Also, I have some pretty long term to-do's to tame around the house. Is it worth dropping all those in now, knowing that I'm working to a September delivery on some of these, or drop them in Month by month?

I think you can only do one quest at a time. The quest system isn't all that meaningful. You can play any of the single player they will just take longer. I think the quest system is more like a moral support system to keep you on task. Don't do your dailies monster hurts the team, so it gives you more reason to do your tasks. The todos just help the team.

Hey guys, this sounds really cool (and anything to help keep me motivated would be great). Can I join in?

Thanks Baron. I'm finding the "don't hurt the team" a real motivator for my dailies. I almost didn't do one yesterday because I couldn't be bothered. I then thought about us taking damage from that giant Mermaid and promptly got up off my arse and did what I had to
