NES Controller definitely the best one.

The NES controller ones are pretty cool. If they come out with Zelda themed ones I might be tempted.

There is a Zelda-themed one...

Not a big fan of that one. It looks more southwestern or faux-Native American to me than anything. I realize that the weird-semi-Southwestern look is kind of a staple in Zelda, but for some reason it works in that game world.

I'm now going to replay some Zelda games and ascertain if they are in fact set in the Southwest United States.

We may be on to something here.

Just because we're talking about NES Zelda games, and Google seems to show that it has never been discussed here before: Zelda Randomizer.

It takes your Legend of Zelda NES ROM (which I would assume to be legitimate for those of you who, like me, own a copy of the physical cartridge or otherwise have purchased a legit copy) and randomizes the dungeon locations, dungeon enemies, and item placements -- basically making for a fresh experience!

I tried it, and it worked for me. It was pretty fun experiencing that rush of uncovering a heretofore-unknown new NES Zelda dungeon location for the first time in 25+ years!

Performance is also the reason why they've opted to use SSDs for the primary internal storage on the Wii & Wii U instead of dropping in large traditional hard drives like Sony/MS did. Well, that and it's easier to fit flash storage in a compact space (plus it doesn't generate as much heat).

The internal storage on the Wii-U is actually eMMC (Flash memory) on a USB 2 bus. In reality that means its going to get around 20-25 MB/s load speeds. For the most party this is significantly slower than the hard drives that they threw in the PS4/XBO.

Nintendo 2DS gets another price cut

Not even a year after cutting the price to just under $100, the Nintendo 2DS is getting another price drop. Beginning May 20, Nintendo's entry-level handheld will be $79.99, the company announced this morning.

I wonder if I should get one for my son.

Nintendo looking to get in on the movie business, but they're hoping to do as much in-house as possible. The in-house isn't a surprise. Ever since Mario Bros. they've been a bit picky with their properties. I'm surprised that Metroid movie got as far in pre-production as it did, even.

I'm curious if those Pikmin shorts were a bit of an experiment, akin to how the Assassin's Creed mini-series was a testing ground for Ubisoft's in-house film studio to eventually lead to the new film.

So I think most people would hope for Metroid, Mario, or Zelda as a first film, but I imagine they might do something different than those properties. Especially for a first attempt at a film. In all honesty, what I can really see is a children's Animal Crossing film. But it might be "too dull" in a straight-to-DVD PBS Kids level of way.

As for actual wish-lists, mine would be on Kid Icarus: Uprising. I mean, the game's charm largely comes from how Saturday Morning Cartoon it is. It's probably their most movie-ready property right now.

The strength of Nintendo's franchises lie so much more in their gameplay than anything else that I honestly just can't see them working in film format. Which I admit is likely more a limitation of my own creativity than theirs.

There's also Marvel Studios becoming the first major independent film studio since DreamWorks and making literally billions of dollars. There are more than a few companies, I'm sure, who have looked at the degree of control afforded Marvel by virtue of forming their own studio and thinking they might want in on that gig.

The Angry Birds movie is also independently developed in-house by Rio. Sony only has a distribution deal. Then again, so was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Angry Birds is getting pretty good reviews and is aimed at kids/families, which means it should easily outperform The Spirits Within.

On the other other hand you have the Warcraft movie which I think is at least partially in-house and doesn't seem to have much in the way of favorable impressions.

I also feel like going into movies, or at least feature-length films, would require Nintendo to do a lot of building up talent in areas they don't currently have. I could be wrong, but that would probably be one of the riskiest undertakings they're talking about.

I brought up Final Fantasy just to show that independence and doing things in-house is no guarantee of success or of a good product.

Oh this could be an unmitigated disaster. But I was thinking about it a bit more, and considering some of the writing to the Paper Mario series, I think even a decent Mario film could be achieved. Though part of the humor to those games is in Mario being a silent protagonist (and always has been since the first Super Mario RPG).

In some ways, Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem seem like perfect titles for this. However, part of me is also curious if Nintendo could use this as an opportunity to similarly reach out to other companies and even work with them. A Mega Man film, anyone?

I'm probably one of four people in the world that liked Spirits Within. My best friend and I went to go see that on opening night. Sure, we were probably 12 at the time, but still! I liked it.

Probably doesn't hold up at all now, though.

Spirits Within would've greatly benefited from scratching off the FF branding.

I'd say Angry Birds shows that's the case too in terms of good product. Had some vouchers needed using up so my wife and I took our five year old and his 6 year old mate to see it yesterday (mainly for his friends benefit). Don't let the mildly amusing trailer fool you, it works as a young kids film but as a family film that appeals to all, nah... Kids enjoyed it, I fell asleep and my wife, out of earshot of the boys proclaimed it to be "one of the sh*ttest films I have ever seen". From her review and from what I saw I'd say Empire 2 star review, just seen today about right... "For recently-hatched members of the nest, it’s a bright and colourful distraction. For the rest of us, it’s about as entertaining as avian flu."

Anyhow, this is a nintendo thread, bringing it back to that... My son has been reared on old Mario games rather than Angry Birds, thats just good parenting and I'm sure he'd lap up any Mario movie Nintendo offered up (he likes the old adventures of Mario 3 cartoon?!?!) It's just if that mario movie is made with care for all ages, along the lines of lego movie that we can totally enjoy as a family or if it's another angry birds, a cash grab but without the love.

I could go on.

I think the app did exactly what it was designed to do, and I doubt Nintendo expected it to be more than a flash-in-the-pan viral thing.

Yes! When the heck is this coming out?

Officially I believe by the end of the year. It was initially going to be this summer.

Yeah. I'm so into this based on what I've seen. We have to wait until October, though, right?

JUST YOU WAIT TILL ANIMAL CROSSING IS TIED INTO MIITOMO SOMEHOW

In addition to the Zelda stream, Nintendo has confirmed a second day of Treehouse streaming for E3 with in-depth looks at Pokemon Go, Monster Hunter Generations, Dragon Quest VII, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.

Edit: There's also a third day of streaming with a special for Pokemon Sun and Moon.

You know what would be cool? That Dragon Quest Builder on NX. I haven't been able to figure out if it has multiplayer, though. Might be awesome with the kids.

Sounds good to me. I hope they find a little time for Rhythm Heaven or Style Savvy, though.

I look forward to parking my ass in front of the television spending way too much in my jammies because paid time off.

Spoiler:

Given that I work in travel and see what others consider vacation, I feel weird calling my week off a "vacation". Even if I probably will be having a better time by doing nothing all day.
