Looks like this is a free download and play formal short while. I'm going to give it a shot!

Great! I still play this game a lot. It's a blast online. You might have fun jumping into some Frontier Defense to get the hang of things.

Feel free to drop me a line if you want to play sometime.

Ditto for me, too. I've been looking for an excuse to get back into this.

Holy crap this is a ball! I played 2 matches in Attrition and it was hectic but fun. I need to look at the other modes too.

I'm finishing the DLC downloads, heading out for a bit then I'll likely get back on.

So you know that thing in that Indiana Jones movie or whatever where the guy hides in a refrigerator to survive an atomic bomb? Well I just did that with my own titan going nuclear and a Grunt droppod XDDDDD

That sounds like a pretty cool maneuver that probably nobody really knows about. If it weren't for Splatoon, I'd probably still be playing this, but Splatoon readily fills the same void for me, especially since it uses some semi-familiar weapons, adds some mobility features, and an extra element in needing to cover the ground in ink, while also bringing Nintendo charm, being newer and it currently still has weekly updates scheduled through the fall.

That said, can not wait to see what they do with Titanfall 2, which is evidently happening in the 2017 fiscal year now.

Haha, I think it was a lucky one-off. Also, I have a housemate playing Splatoon, and despite thinking it looks like a pretty cool thing coming from Nintendo, I'd just rather be playing titanfall.

Here's some news for those in Asia, or at least the parts of Asia that get f2p versions if things:

Our friends at Nexon Asia have partnered with EA and Respawn to bring out a F2P version of Titanfall out in Asia http://www.mcvpacific.com/news/read/...

To each their own, I guess. Have you at least given it a try for a few hours? As I stated, I certainly found it to do a great job of scratching the online shooter that's something other than modern military shooter itch. I'm also a big Nintendo nerd, and have 2 toddlers so the sensibilities and aesthetics really resonate with me.

So for the longest time I've been using the CAR + Run and Gun for my assault loadout. And I've had some pretty good results from it. But I noticed that I had to put a lot of bullet into my target to get a kill. Supposedly the CAR is a good mix of assault rifle damage and SMG rate of fire, but I just couldn't keep my reticle on target consistently enough. So last night I switched to the R101 assault rifle with Run and Gun and boy did I have a breakthrough. At the end of the match I was in first place, of both of the teams. That felt really good. So now I'll try to put together a loadout around the R101 rifle.

After looking up the actual damage stats for both the CAR and the R101 I've been cracking my head about what's going on. On paper, the CAR has a higher max and min damage than the R101, and I couldn't figure out why I was having more luck with the R101 and why it's considered the assault rifle while the CAR is an SMG. Finally I figured it out, something that other people I'm sure have already figured out. The max and min damage are functions of range, specifically Close or Ranged based on your distance to target. The CAR has a significantly shorter range for both Close and Ranged damage than the R101. And I tend to fight mostly at mid range, so a significant percentage of my bullets were doing minimum damage rather than maximum when using the CAR. Switching over to the R101, more max damage was being delivered to the targets.

The way EA announced the next Titanfall as an 'experience' I thought it might be VR. It looks like I was wrong and the next game will have singleplayer.

Yeah, EA is not exactly known for cutting edge innovation.

Instead they are going to add in something that everyone wanted when the original game was first announced. Forward, into the past!

It was the right call--I don't think they could have built a multiplayer like that while trying to make a satisfying single player at the same time, especially under the conditions this game was made. If anything, I think trying to make the single player game as good as it could be would have negatively influenced the choices made with the multiplayer. They totally nailed a new multiplayer where one minute it's dudes with guns, and the next it's giant robots, and the integration of the two is seamless. That couldn't have been easy, and I don't think it would have happened if there needed to be a single player campaign developed (and authored!) at the same time.

It's available on EA Access now. I didn't jump in to see if there was a bump in players, though.

Forgive me if this has been gone over before, but I noticed (or possibly rediscovered...) there's a large map that comes up when you hit M, I guess that's the thing from the companion app for xbox or whatever. It's not super useful in multiplayer, but in Frontier Defence, could be really great if you were coordinating and using it to triage lanes of incoming nuke titans.
