Arma 3 Catch All

Don't worry too much about Zeus - we use MCC instead.

Can you make a proper AI convoy yet?

Doubtful. And I didn't test it specifically, but I don't think they've fixed the bug where chickens disappear when you make them an objective. Sorry, Motley.

The Apex missions are great and you do not need a server to host. They are co-op but only support up to four players.

Unplayable. Game ending bug.

Xeknos and I were able to run the Apex mission on the server last night. Didn't play around with the virtual ammo box, but I'm sure we could get it to work. The seven missions are put together nicely. Still only four players.

I'm still playing quite a bit of the "King of the Hill" (BlueFor, OpFor, and Ind competing for control of the AO) game mode - Harcore, naturally (1st person view only)

I've recently discovered the EUTW mode (linked AOs with only 2 factions fighting). The factions are random, and it seems, even the available equipment changes (primary weapons, scopes...) - standard faction rifles seemed consistent (I was OpFor 2x, so: TRG, Katiba, GL and Carbine variants), grenades, etc. Each faction gets a limited number of "specialists" - 5x Medics (infinite use medkit), 5x Engineers (repair vehicles), 5x Snipers (access to sniper rifles & high-powered optics), everyone else is "Rifleman" (server I played on capped at 60 total players).

The biggest difference: no little coloured square marking your team (they're on the map, but...). You have to recognize the uniforms!! That's hard with ghilles. You get a name pop up if you have them centred, but not when scoped in. IFF is more difficult. Yes, I've shot/killed teammates. Normal kills can be revived by teammates, but you can take critical hits, and will have to respawn.

The gameplay is a bit slower, spawning back at base with a 60s timer before you can fast-travel to another AO under your team's control (ie: greater than 75/100 points in that zone), or one of the Mobile HQ's (team only ever gets 2, can be destroyed, and have a respawn timer if they get taken out).

You start with an amount of cash (it was a different amount, the 2x times I played). You have to buy your gear (you start with the basic rifle + 3 mags for free) - only lasts for that round/game, for non-consumables ("better" rifles, optics, vests), but you resupply your own ammo grenades, etc. You get a regular, timed "paycheque" (+250), and extra for objective action (assault, defense). My fist purchase every round is GPS (mini-map in the corner is hella-useful), Binos/Rangefinder, and some kind of optic (RCO/Holo/MRCO/ARCO, whichever is available) - that will eat a huge chuck of your cash, but worth it.

I have seen vehicles in use - helis (armed and unarmed), IFVs (I don't think I've ever seen full-blown tanks), Ifrit/MRAP/etc (armed/hmgs and unarmed).

EUTW takes waaaaay more coordination than KotH, but fun... in a more "combined ops" kind of way

Does that require Apex wink?

Nope, unless it happens to be a Tanoa map (pretty sure there are some of those, too), but I stick to the Altis maps. I spent last night in KotH, the EUTW server was empty

Are there any good single player "drop me into a big battle" scenarios? A lot of what I've seen seems geared towards co-op groups or full scale MP.

HETMAN: War Stories can be pretty good. You basically start up the mission and configure it how you want and then take part in a large battle over a random territory. I don't play it often because it's (or can be) pretty CPU heavy compared to other SP missions.

I'm going to be playing various Arma 3 multiplayer mods today. If anyone wants to join in the fun, message me on steam.

If I didn't have to work...

I'll meet up with you. What time are you going to start and what mods are you playing?

Sorry, that was on Sunday. Now I'm on the road and my laptop would explode if I tried to run Arma.

This sounds exciting...

I wonder what effect, if any, this will have on the CPU FPS bottleneck.

On Reddit, people have been saying no increase in FPS, just more consistent FPS and the ability to use larger draw distances.

Oh god, I found a mod(s) that fully recreates the campaign from Operation Flashpoint in ARMA III.

I'll be in my bunk.

Any GWJers still bumping around with this? I'd like to hop back in sometime and play with people, even though I know my schedule makes it pretty much a no-go.

I bought Apex and have been meaning to dive into the campaign. I would like some MP action.

I was looking for a reason to grab Apex. I'll take semi-regular games with people, to be honest.

I just spent WAY too long having the most fun I've had in a FPS in years playing Invade & Annex Mode on a server online.

Yeah, i'm back in.

Hmm. Sounds fun. What is performance like? I've heard of ARMA 3 mods that just perform miserably in online play.

Sounds like we have some renewed interest in ARMA.

I propose that we set up a time once a week to run through the Apex campaign together.

Only issue is that I'm primarily a late night-PST gamer.

Let's see what kind of interest is out there and maybe I can adjust a little to accommodate because I love this game with randoms but playing with like-mined GWJers would take it to another level.

Count me in.

Depending on what time you choose, I'd love to get in as well.

I'd love to run though the Apex missions. Thursday evenings work great for me. I'm central time, but stay up late.

ARMA has a campaign?!?

Sounds like we have the following folks interested so far:

Pred
Legion
MisterStatic
KEA_Lightning
trashi
Dakhath

Let's give it some more time and we can fill out the roster a little but in the mean time, here are a couple of cool mods I've found:

Cold War Crisis
This is a pitch perfect reconstruction of the original Operation Flashpoint campaign (including the original voice acting and scripting). He's about halfway done but check it out and watch the nostalgia waves come in.

UNSUNG Vietnam war mod
Very comprehensive overhaul to add era vehicles, small arms and opfor. There are a couple of decently active servers out there.

The BECTI modded servers.
This is more of a collection of mods but it does a good job of combining bots, real people and logistics to simulate the feel of a greater campaign.

If you don't mind a complete noob, I can join. Just need to find a time.
