Arma 3 Catch All

I just updated the server, so we're good to go for tonight. 5pm Pacific/7pm Central/8pm Eastern.

Andrew, do you use any mod management software like PlaywithSix or ARMA3Sync?
If you're doing it manually then you'll need to first copy the mod folders into your ARMA 3 directory.
Then, you can use the built-in ARMA launcher and turn mods on/off there or just launch ARMA, go into CONFIGURE -> EXPANSIONS and turn them on/off there then exit and restart ARMA.
Or, as a last resort you can add them onto the command line - which seems downright barbaric at this point
Hit me up on Steam if you need more help.

There will be rocket league at some point.

Oh goodness, I miss this but I'm just always at work on the days when people are playing. Unless there's been an uptick in weekend games, by some chance.

We do the occasional Saturday games. We did one last weekend, I believe.

Oops.

For those who play SP, I just found out about two great squad control mods — C2: Command and Control and GetTactical. C2 gives you a tablet for setting waypoints as well as a UI for positioning team members. GetTactical basically turns Arma 3 into an RTS where you control yourself and your squad from above. Videos below.

Get Tactical

You guys still playing on the reg?
Was looking for a new team based game to try out...

The new 3D editor, Eden, hit dev branch last week. What an amazing upgrade for mission makers.

Any suggestion for beginners guides or youtube videos to acclimate?

Tried playing online last night and it was kind of a frustrating mess...

Depends what you want to play.

There's so many gamemodes and mods that you have a large choice of options.

For just getting your feet under you, playing solo, I'd probably recommend playing Wasteland. Hop on Red, Blue, or Independent. If you pick independent anyone you see is fair game. You'll spawn near towns, and you'll need to check the inventories of vehicles you find to get guns.

This is an old video for Wasteland.

Otherwise, you can go try King of the Hill. It's 3 teams in a battle to control a city. Lots of players, save system for xp, and lots of action.

2 fairly straight forward gamemodes, with lots of options in play style.

IMPROMPTU AFTERNOON ARMA!!!!!

Are you still in the 15th Fogrob?

Delayed response, but no I am no longer in, as I'm not as free as I once was. However, a couple of us have been playing the Exile mod on the do or die gamers server. It's pretty fun.

I can second the Exile mod. It's great fun.

The ARMA III expansion pack Apex is 10% off ($27.99) on Bohemia's site. Get your pre-order now.

Every time I try to play ARMA online, I am reminded of why I never get started: because almost literally every public server is running some bullsh*t RPG/"Life" mod or some DayZ clone mod. Though I do want to try Breaking Point sometime, but I'd like to, you know, just jump into a public game of f*cking ARMA sometime.

There are a handful of us who play on Mashers private server. We typically create a mission on the fly and play for a few hours.

I'd be ok with a pub server of Breaking Point. The few times I played it, it was fun. The Exile mod is pretty fun also.

Just don't stand between Motley and his fedoras.

I know, and I keep meaning to get involved in that, but I also just want to drop into a public game and play the actual ARMA game and it drives me nuts not only how everything is running some mod, but how absolutely awful some of those mods are.

Arma 3 is the game I always come back to. My internet isn't great, though, and I prefer SP, but I had a lot of fun playing with GWJers in the past.

The 1.54 update has made the game even deadlier — if you're not wearing the proper body armor, you're pretty much dead if you get hit. While that can be frustrating, it really makes you consider when, where, and how to engage an enemy force.

I've been playing some great SP missions recently:

Pilgrimage (Altis, Chernarus, Bornholm, Lingor): You and an optional AI buddy set off across a war-torn Altis or Chernarus (or a couple other maps) to find the body of your dead brother. The mission is pretty customizable and has you looting houses and enemies for weapons. Can be very tense. I love playing with the setting that makes the two main forces on the island fight each other, not just you. Coming across an AI battle in progress or salvaging equipment from the aftermath is incredibly immersive. I've put more hours into this mission than in most of the games in my Steam library.

Hunter Six: You and your customizable AI squad are tasked with finding two hostages and killing the rebel leader on Altis. But to find their locations, you have to interrogate civilians, arrests suspects, and search enemy bodies to gather intel. Most of the mission takes place in the NW portion of Altis (which is still a huge area) and you have access to transport helos and four friendly bases from which you can take ground vehicles.

ROADS (reqs Ravage Mod): I've just started this one. The Ravage mod is basically SP DayZ with AI factions. You can also get some AI to join you. ROADS uses the Ravage mod, but removes the zombies from the scenario, so it's survival plus AI factions. I've only spent a few hours with it, but it's interesting if you like the DayZ style of survival gameplay and looting. ROADS takes place on Altis, but you can create your own Ravage mod missions on any map.

I think playing some custom SP scenarios is what I'm going to do when I have that ARMA itch. Thanks for this list.

I read recently something about Breaking Point accessing files in your PC that you might not want them accessing. Anyone have any info on this?

I love SP Arma, but I'm in the minority. I know a lot of people don't like controlling AI teammates, but two things that have made it pretty enjoyable are voice commands and the C2 mod. I use VAC and a custom profile for issuing orders to AI and complement that with C2. Here's a 2-minute video of C2 in action:

Here's a longer video (20 min) detailing the newest features:

I tried using Voice Attack once, but there was a rather painful delay between Voice Attack hearing my command and performing the action in the game, a delay that doesn't exist when I use it in Elite.

I think it had to do with the fact that I was using another person's VA profile, and I think it had overly conservative pauses between keystrokes or something.

I need to figure out something to get voice commands in ARMA working. Part of it is that I was not experienced with Voice Attack at the time, but now that I use it regularly with Elite, I could probably sort out what was going on better. And/or just find a better ARMA profile or build up my own.

I found a number of posts with basically the same information. Some Anti-Virus software programs were flagging it as a false positive. http://www.thezombieinfection.com/to...

I'm starting to play around with BP again, so if any of you are interested (and not dirty bandits), feel free to message me on steam for some post apoc zombie fun (that's not completely broken).

So I made this.

Worth checking out, anyway.

I think I applied.

I think I did too...maybe multiple times. Kept telling me I had to complete the Captcha, or something.
Anyway, neat.

Yeah it seems pretty buggered, can't get my form to submit either.

It's still in beta - it's supposed to be sending join requests to my email, but I haven't gotten any of them yet.

Tried joining...nope. Are we gearing up for Apex? I pre-ordered.
