EA Plans Battlefield ‘Universe’ Following Awful Battlefield 2042 Launch
Most notably, Respawn Entertainment co-founder and CEO Vince Zampella will now oversee all Battlefield development following the departure of DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson.
Ah, finally, all those rich BF characters in the same universe. I've been waiting for this since I was a wee bairn.
The first would include existing PlayStation Plus benefits. The second would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and, eventually, PlayStation 5 games. The third tier would add extended demos, game streaming and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games. A representative for PlayStation didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Sony is tinkering with sub service, merging PS+ and PSNow. No day 1 first party games it seems.

Seriously. Branding it "Universe" while it really means "Dice needs more time to make games so we're gonna be like Activision and have ten teams make Battlefield games".
Slightly more lighthearted than all the Blizzard/Activision news these days (speaking of which)
Still kinda pathetic.

US Patent Office records show Take-Two is behind filings to contest numerous names with connections to the words "rockstar", "social club", "mafia", "civilization" and more.
Though I guess this could also be a lead-up to Disney suing EA for the use of "Universe".

From Twitter: "redefine blockchain gaming"...? Shouldn't someone "define blockchain gaming" first?
Learned a few things from that link. Apparently there is a thing called Blockchain gaming. Of which this upcoming thingy will redefine. Also there’s something called Gala Games that already has a Metaverse beating Facebook to the market.
I'm not clicking on that link because I value my sanity but L-Oh-L at the term "invest" in that headline.
Start subjecting these things to the gambling commissions and the industry they regulate.
I can guarantee with at least 85% certainty that those investors are not "players".
They're not investors and they're getting played.
I think it's more that they're money launderers.
It seems such a transparent scam that I predict that Star Citizen will get into the NFT market within 6 months, selling digital land, and images of yesterday's now-defunct Squadron 42 Jira board.
"Legacy" does sound rather Star Citizen-y. Maybe it's it's actually a Star Citizen module.
Quick, someone check the road map to the road map!

That's unfortunate.
I know modern business parlance looooves terms like "partner," but "we bought you" seems a pretty shaky foundation for a partnership.

Admittedly, so far Tencent has been a behind the scenes money purse and let their studios do their own thing.
Or they're really good at hiding their involvement.

Depends on the company. They're smart and know of their reputation in the States.
Self censorship is a wonderful tool for oppressors.
They bought mindshare though. So some of it was worth it for sure.
Yeah, the main goal was to buy market share and get exposure. That's not easily quantifiable.
Not to mention they said up front that they would be losing money at the start. So no big surprise really.
Can anyone explain why Take2 are buying Zynga at a premium?

Intellectual property and diversification (into mobile publishing).
As I understand it, Take 2 Interactive was initially basically the publishing arm of Rockstar Games. They've branched out since then publishing 2K games and some others bits and bobs.
I'd imagine that purchasing Zynga answers 3 key questions from shareholders:
1. Why aren't you in mobile?
2. Where is your future growth going to come from?
3. When are you going to buy someone like everybody else is doing?
Until the release of the GTA Trilogy, I think Rockstar Games had released only 2 games in a decade: GTA V, and; Red Dead Redemption 2. I'm not familiar with 2K's oeuvre (beyond NBA 2K 21, which I bought a couple of months ago, and turned out to be is sh*t) but I'd be surprised if they've has set the world alight in recent years.
They think they can make Fortnite money on mobile.
