Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) Catch-All

Lolly moved in today and she's sooooo cute! She appears to be some sort of striped kitty. She was in the midst of unpacking though so I didn't stay and bother her for long. I'm sure she'll be out and about tomorrow.

Becky told me she wanted to move today! So soon I'll get another new neighbor!

I've been seeing one of my former neighbors in the town part of the village the last couple of days. A sheep named Eunice. It's nice how she remembered having lived there and called my mayor by name.

Otherwise, nothing too eventful in my town today.

Finally hopped back on for the first time since Fallout 4 came out. A few things:

1. Snow! Yay! My town's name is Snowfall, so something appropriate is finally happening.

2. Lief wanted me to help de-weed the town - I guess that'll happen after a month, even with the beautiful town ordinance active.

3. Cally moved out, which was a shame because I really liked her. However, Peck the penguin moved in to replace her, who tried claiming that he was the mayor until I set him straight. I've also gained Wendy (some kind of ram) as well, I think to replace Doc.

Current population: Mira (bunny), Monty (monkey), Agnes (pig), Coulton (horse), Tom (cat), Friga (penguin), Peck (penguin), Wendy (ram?)

4. Did you know villagers can get sick? Tom's laid up in his house thinking he's going to die. I don't think villagers can die, I think he's just being melodramatic.

5. I'm fairly certain my character's suffering from a concussion by now, judging by the number of times he faceplants in the snow. Running is hazardous.

I love the name Snowfall! My town name is Moonglow after the town named as such in the Ultima series and where I spent most of my time in UO.

I have a penguin in my town too! Her name is...er...hmm...I've forgotten all of a sudden, but she's not any of your penguins. She's blue though and I've planted blue lilies around her house.

Hah! I've never seen the faceplant in the snow! I never run in my town, but now I'm thinking I should try it and see this thing.

I haven't played much of the Ultima series myself, but Moonglow is an excellent name.

I run everywhere because I'm impatient, so he faceplants a lot.

The fortune teller's also in my town today, and she said that a knit cap is key to avoiding terrible misfortune. I went and bought an santa hat and a festive tree instead, but I'll keep an eye out.

It's always neat running into old animals. Blanche showed up in my museum today, while I was thinking about setting up all these Nintendo items I've been getting into an exhibit.

Yeah they'll get over it in a few days. If you give them medicine they will get over it sooner, and also boost your relationship with them.

Nice avatar, Xeknos! We have a penguin - I can't remember his name. He's the breed with the eyebrows.

I wish we could rename our towns... Mine is my last name. Did it so all of us, wife, kids and myself, would play in the town named after us.

Could be Peck. I think he has eyebrows. And thanks!

Yeah, I came across some medicine in TIY and gave it to him. We'll see how he is tomorrow.

I found snow people.

There are snowballs you can push around to make larger, and when you push two of them together you make a snow person. I made snowkid all right, but when I made snow boy he was angry because his head wasn't large enough.

It's okay, snowboy. At least you have free satellite TV now.

I tried to push the snowballs together today, but ended up accidentally pushing one of them into the river while trying to get it over a bridge. I could see it bobbing in there slowly melting, which was pretty neat, but then I no longer had the snowball, so that was unfortunate! I wanted an angry snowboy too.

On a good note, Nook's shop expanded again and it is very, very large!

The sad thing is I think snow tyke is melting. Which makes me kind of sad - if there are 4 snow people, and one melts in 5 days, you need to build one a day. Even then they'll get one glorious day together before one of them dies. Very sad.

I thought if you push one in a river or smash it into a house you can just exit/enter a shop/house, and it will reappear? Or am I thinking of a previous game?

I think this is true. I dropped one into the river, went inside, and a second ball spawned in a different spot.

I was right, they are melting. I also have two snowboys now, so you can make multiples.

Is it the T.I.Y., or the larger one?

I'd wondered if a new snowball might appear elsewhere. I was at the end of my play session, so didn't spend any time investigating.

I can't keep up with all of Nook's names so can't remember exactly what he called it, but it's the one that just got the garden shop moved into it. Speaking of the garden shop, I now have a golden axe!

It ought to be T.I.Y., then, since I'm pretty sure that's when the two stores merge. One more upgrade to go!

After accidentally pushing snowballs into the water and even getting one very close to the other snowball before accidentally sitting on a stupid stump, and then destroying the snowball by apparently landing on it when getting back off the stupid stump, I finally managed to put one snowball on top of the other snowball and made...

A snow tyke!

He was thrilled that I got his proportions perfect, but then he decided that he wanted the rest of his family in the town too. He's already starting to melt, so I have a feeling he'll be long gone before I manage to get two snowballs in the same vicinity again without destruction.

On a good note, it's snowing in my town today, so I didn't need to water the flowers! Yay!

Becky moved and so i moved the purple roses I had next to her house to a location next to the town hall to avoid any new animals crushing them when plopping their houses into the town.

I do wish that houses spawned in fixed areas. Or maybe they do, but I haven't noticed any sort of pattern to them.

I had to abandon a town design when an incoming animal built a house right in the way of an intended path. That was depressing.

The houses in New Leaf aren't fixed. One of the animals next door moved a while back and I just left all the flowers I had surrounding her house since none of them were hybrids, and at one point, another animal moved in and put a house very close to that spot, but not in the same spot. Half of the flowers were demolished and the others remained, so that's how I knew the spot wasn't exactly the same.

In City Folk, there were signs and small dirt patches in all the possible places animals were able to put houses, so we would know that putting anything there was risky if an animal was moving in.

What I wish would happen in New Leaf is that we would get a few days notice that someone wants to move in (just like we get notice when someone decides to move out) and then Isabelle asks the Mayor to approve where the house should go, very similar to what she does when we want to place our own house or some other structure. It seems pre-approval would be a reasonable part of town planning.

I'd agree with that. Or, at the very least, don't allow animals to place a house where there are things like ground covering or paths in the way.

I'm also kind of spoiled by Fallout 4 - or, hell, any building game - where you can see a wireframe of the building you're about to build and be able to move it around there, so you can have a little more finer control about where exactly it goes. AC offering a preview is nice, but it's still less than ideal. It's also hard to judge if the building is placed where you're standing or where Isabelle is standing.

Sounds like deeper construction mechanics would be awesome in Animal Crossing U. ;p

All this talk got me playing again, this time in playing to wind down, and will try not to focus to much on the money aspect

Everybody's trying to tell me what they want Jingle to bring them. I hope I don't have to remember any of this.

Most of the money I make comes from selling fossils and whatever random stuff I put up on the displays at Retails. Whenever I get close to 100K bells, I put some towards my current house expansion or the current public works project. Eventually they get paid off, but otherwise, I don't worry about it. I don't do turnips because that would require me to start playing the game twice a day on a schedule to check prices and I end up getting burned out and stop playing.

Haven't gotten into any conversations about Jingle yet, but I've only been speaking to the villagers erratically lately, and they mostly just ask me about catch phrases and other normal stuff.

I found another purple rose in my town!

BEKKI I GET WHAT I'M S.P.E.C.I.A.L means now!' I feel good. AhemX special.

... I am
Just staring Fallout 3. I am way behind the times.

Smooth.

Mwahaha!

Fallout 3 is a great game! I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it!

Relating it back to Animal Crossing, I named my town Junktown in City Folk after a town by the same name in Fallout 1. My main character there regularly runs around wearing a gas mask. Considering how infrequently I play in that town nowadays, the name is probably even more appropriate.

Yea. Last night was fun. On topic, we haven't built a single snowman yet in our town. Must be playing at wrong times?

My wife has been keeping track of what each animal wants. Never done an AC Christmas before.

We shall see if my wife maintains interest with New Leaf after I give her Home Designer tomorrow.

Hey, Tom appears to have gained a friend.

Yay for new neighbors!! I have a kitty in my town too! She bought one of my gyroids today in Retail's.

Nothing too significant happening in my town at the moment other than Pashmina having a birthday today. I wrapped up a tea kettle for her and she seemed to really like it. Sprinkle, a penguin, was the only other visitor to the party, but there probably wouldn't have been room in her house for others.

She just wants you to bring her snowflakes before the end. Is that too much to ask?

Also, Tom wants to leave, so I gave him my blessing. Which means Punchy (I think) will be the only cat in town.
... And after everything I did for him while he was sick, too. Ah, well.

We had 4 cats and a lion at one point. Lost a cat or two to friends visiting. My wife quit playing after that.
