Post a Political News Story

People call me D-Money on the basketball court.

Spoiler:

Mostly because I'm not worth half of what I was when I was a kid.

Why are we still supporting this nonsense?

Because they can? Poe's Law is in full effect.

Chris Christie is going to start pounding the meat. Visually, it's SFW, but I'm not so sure you'd want to play it out loud.

I found another inmate for my Governors' Prison: Florida Governor Rick Scott.

State purges 9,000 children from medical system in cost-saving overhaul

They show that the elimination of children from CMS was the result of a plan to slash spending on sick kids at a time when Florida had a $635.4 million surplus. For the legislative session that begins next month, Gov. Rick Scott has proposed $1 billion in new tax cuts. The spending plan would eliminate an additional 718 health department positions.

Well, that is all kinds of f*cked up. Like... incoherent with rage. WTF is wrong with these people?

Remember this is the guy that banned state agencies from studying the climate of Florida. You know, the state that is probably most affected by climate change.

Some dude from the US wants to come to Australia to stir up support for "legal" rape.

Is this for real? Sounds like the type you'd want to lock up and throw away the keys.

Unfortunately he's for real.

Again? I thought he tried this before, and Australia denied him a visa.

Different guy, similar issue.

I wonder what makes rapists think they'll find refuge in Australia?

It's certainly a troubling question.... I wonder if it's representative of the web presence of these emotionally impotent human husks?

Well, Australia definitely has problems with domestic violence against women; mysognistic behavior is rife even in corporate Australia (from my own experience).

Just a heads up, but that dude created an International Meetup Day on Feb. 6 for people who think like he does to meet up in various cities and hit up bars and "be men".

Could just be idle Internet crap, but could be something to keep in mind if your city is on the list.

Part of me is disappointed that my bar wasn't targeted. My staff would love to meet these freaks.

Either way I'm alerting all of my contacts in the area.

Part of me would fly to Michigan and dress in drag to be a fly on the wall for that.

My city is on the list, part of me really wants to go along and just keep shouting thunder at them and getting annoyed when they don't say flash.

Ehhh, actively engaging them directly is probably not the best move since they're on the lookout for stuff like that and might escalate a situation. Probably best to just be aware that your city is on a list, signal boost, and remind people to be on guard more than usual.

EDIT: If it even really happens. There's a part of me that thinks it's all just BS anyway, but there's another part that wants everyone to be safe at the same time.

Oh I was joking, wouldn't waste the bus fare. Also I can't see them adding worse to the already sh*tness of most bars in Leeds on a Saturday night.

Dee - I have a small but enthusiastic group of CD regulars. You're more than welcome to join.

I would like to put this (edit - PUA, not CD) in context. I regularly bar back at my own place, mostly to interact with guests in a service relationship. I hear lots (hundreds per week) of conversations, a portion of which are singles looking to partner. There is a vast difference between "normal" alcohol related partnering and PUA partnering. The former is mutual, respectful, and generally actually pretty fun. Regardless of whether it's a gay or straight meeting, you can see the mutual physical attraction, the excitement of getting to know someone, and the complicated yet exciting unspoken unspoken sexual conversation. It's honestly pretty fun - my demographic skews 28-45, white, educated, and professional. [edit: I left off a point about the demographic minimizing some but not all of the institutionalized gaps in power between hookups, and im worried it looks like i'm implying that only a certain demographic is fun to watch. That is not my intent.]

PUAs are easy to find and rarely get traction at the Heron. They usually show up later - 11 pm or so - flash cash, buy drinks for everyone, and gently make everyone feel physically / financially / emotionally inadequate. The best way to handle them is almost never with direct confrontation, but rather as a persistent presence. Whether you call it a Cooler or a cockblock, it's pretty easy to steer the conversation away from "let's get out of here to someplace more quiet".

(Weird anecdote - because we are the most open and affirming place in the neighborhood, I have more of an issue with gay PUAs than straight ones. Now THAT is a dynamic I wasn't prepared for.)

Some strange places they listed in Sydney, as in wide public spaces but thankfully easy to avoid. Our Minister for Border Protection and Immigration asked for an urgent briefing so this guy is definitely getting his visa cancelled.

Boston's is the Paul Revere statue. WTF?

The Red Pills are coming! The Red Pills are coming!

Just reading the first part of that link from Domano makes me feel sick.

Hyde Park is a ridiculous choice. Isn't there like a 100% chance of a protest there since it's so public and central?

Looks like they are picking weird meeting places in Seattle as well, including the public library and the Lenin statue. Part of me wants to contact the library and request staff keep a lookout but I'm not sure it will do any good. If it wasn't my son's birthday I would be actually tempted to attend and report back the idiocy for entertainment value.

Finally, I know this is super petty but it looks like they are using screenshots from some of my favorite strategy game series for their promotionals. I really don't want to be associated with these guys just because I like Total War.

Update - called the library on my lunch break and alerted security. Not much they can do if the group is gathering outside but at least they can keep people from loitering if a crowd gathers.

They specifically say these meeting places are where they are first gathering, before going to an actual location. So of course they're public/highly visible places.

Did any of you actually read the whole link with the secret phrases to identify themselves? They're total idiots.
