Person Of Interest - TV - About time! (No Spoilers Beyond What's Aired!)

So like all the TV show threads I create, talk all you want about what's already aired without spoiler tags. Anyone coming in to the thread not having caught up to the latest episode does so at their own risk!

If it's info that hasn't aired in the episode regardless of what it is, warn people and spoiler tag it. Episode titles, casting decisions, Sneak previews for the next episode are all examples of spoilers, but not the only ones!

Now that it is out of the way! Lets talk about the show! I can't believe a thread hadn't been created yet!

The most recent episode!

The high pitch frequency phone thing in the Root interrogation blew my mind. I could barely hear it and thought it was the audio acting up! When root mentioned that the machine was already talking to her through the high pitched frequency, my mind was blown. These guys are so good at what they do. I love it.

This could be my most favorite episode yet. It still amazes me how many different subplots they've weaved into this show. So many rich characters, and they still bring the awesome like this last show.

I also wondered if I was hearing something when that phone showed up. I was working out with headphones in my ears and wrote it off as tinnitus. I would like to have seen how exactly she took down the guards. The scene that follows was intense -- Amy Acker just nails that character.

It'll be interesting to see how the second machine is worked into the show (assuming it is).

I was hearing it too and thought it was just the TV. Even asked my wife if she could hear it.

It was nice getting back to the show's roots tonight. I wonder if they will start getting more relevant numbers now?

Hah, they managed to legitimately put, "don't taze me, bro" into the episode's dialogue.

The series reboot following Carter's "exit" from the show has been a pretty wild ride. That said, I'm honestly surprised there's been so little love for this thread.

Anyway, for the handful that care, io9 had an interesting post from the writer/creators of the series regarding "the machine" that was very interesting.

The reboot since the death has been pretty crazy, and a lot of fun.

I've really enjoyed how well thought out the episodes seem to be. Having said that, I found it pretty hilarious that a flight control joystick and throttles just happened to be within arms reach just when they needed it most! And that lag didn't seem to be an issue! LOL

At the very least, they could have made it look like the plane landed a little rougher.

Couldn't figure out if the machine forced him on the mission or Root! Despite the silliness with the landing (why were people applauding if they didn't know what was going on?) I enjoyed the "THEY PULL ME BACK IN" story.

I'm not sure there is a distinction between Root and the Machine at this point. Root seems to be happily stepping into the role of the Machines living avatar.

No doubt Harold's been a flight sim guy since Falcon 3.0. Talk about a billionaire recluse gamer with a job...

Harold's supposed to be the smart one, so how did he not realize he lost all leverage over the gunman in the water when the woman he was helping stepped into it?

That bugged me too. Plus he could send half the filtered calls off site in an instant? Why not send all of them and remove the false drama around deleting them? I'll forego complaining about the magic, silent server room as that's a Hollywood staple.

Heh, yeah, I mentioned that too my wife. He sent off half the recorded calls to Fusco including audio? JUST MAKE A FULL BACKUP, DUMMY!

I think I'm getting bored with this show. I don't really handle case-of-the-week type stuff too well.

But this CotW introduced a new antagonist.

After such a strong and long story arc, it's always tough to go back to the basics. It's killed other shows.

It's looking like a wild finale. I think, all in all, they handled their "reboot" pretty amazingly. That case of the week thing is barely a blip anymore. While I was a fan of adding Sarah Shahi, because I thought she was great in Life, they have really turned her into one of mine and my wife's favorite characters.

It was fun to get Collier's origin story this week, which is going to make for what could be a really gray finale next week.

Daaamn, did Shaw just throw down with some BJJ? That was a nice arm bar. I've missed choreography rather than just sound effect dubbed cutaways.

[Edit] And over. Man, NEED MORE!

This show, still going with the ballsy season finales.

They certainly don't mind changing up the dynamic. Can't wait to see how the next season starts off!

I wonder how much of the current story was in the long term works when this show started, and how much of it has come out of recent events? There are certainly elements early on that would indicate they had something like this in the works, but I can't decide if the creators are genius prognosticators about events that would be relevant to us now or just really good at changing course mid-stream.

Oh man the scene between the Machine and Finch near the end of the episode choked me up.

And when the machine starts talking to Reese, I was smiling from ear to ear.

Oh my god, Pink Floyd. That is terrific.

We just watched the last two episodes back to back. That was one hell of a finale. The show gets one hell of a lot of credit for being willing to change all the rules at any given moment, and then nailing it.

I'll have to say, though, I thought the previous episode, with John bleeding to death, was aces. It really helped seal the theme of sacrifice and family. All in all, it was a great finish to another great season of PoI.

The moment I heard the pounding, I just got a big grin on my face in anticipation of how perfect that was going to be. It did not disappoint.

Having not grown up with it, it just seemed heavy-handed and too clever for its own good.

Loved it, but man, a second season with Samaritan on top? So, is the show going to be about Samaritan now? I understand that they started the bread crumbs way back in the first season, but still. It feels like it's not about persons of interest at all anymore. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the serial nature over episodic, I just didn't expect it to be all Samaritan all the time.

The Machine is alive. Harold will rebuild her, and I suspect she will be vastly improved.

She now has emotion. And likes sappy 70's ballad rock.

Perfect! LOL

Cheesy as it was I really enjoyed that ending, right up until the point they were walking through a hail of bullets to escape. It was a cool shot, but of all the unrealistic things on that show that seemed the most egregious.

I haven't followed the show, but since the thread popped I thought I would mention my connection to it. The giant data center that was shown in the initial intro (and I think in the first episode) was one of my company's data center's. Sort of. They filmed one row of cabinets, and one cabinet in particular, and then did a lot of CGI work to create the rest.

When I first gave one of their producers a tour, I mentioned how a scene from Kidnapped had been recorded at the same facility. I was warned against making any mention of that to any of the crew, as they are apparently a very superstitious bunch.

I know this is a work of fiction, but I'd swear I've had days like they're having getting the bugs out of The Machine.
