2013 - 12 month pile thread. Hello New Year, good bye pile!

I've been looking at this as an option...

Might be a fun way of keeping tabs on my collection.

How did you all fare, especially with the Steam sale?

Total disaster. Any progress I might have made was completely annihilated. Will post a full report later today.
Grats on finishing Strange Journey!

Later that day... (Cue cutscene!)

July report. Steam Sale should be classified as a natural disaster at this point.

For 2013, Backloggery says -36. Oh ouch.

I don't really participate in Steam Sales, so...

Current Game: Bioshock

Beaten in July: Toki Tori, Mega Run

Added in July: Sonic the Hedgehog, Toki Tori

Pikmin 3 and Mario and Luigi: Dream Team are on the way, so that will occupy most of August.

Here's my "weigh-in":

Here's my June report

Started:
Bone Episode 2 : The Great Cow Race (PC)
Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS)

Resumed:
None

Beaten:
Monaco (PC)
Deus Ex GOTY Edition (with Shifter Mod) (PC)
Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: Reloaded (PC)

100%/Completed:
Bone Episode 2 : The Great Cow Race (PC)

Added to the Pile:
Humans Must Answer (PC)

I think this month is a net reduction of 1 game from the pile due to finishing up the Bone duology. Is duology even a word? I guess not, well deal with it anyways! Getting DX out of the way felt really good and I'm glad I finally finished it up. I remember getting kinda frustrated with the combat before I stopped playing and coming back to it I remembered to pay better attention to the ammo types I was using and the rest of the game was pretty smooth sailing from then on. Human Revolution is definitely going on the list for next year. Bone was kinda eh (the voice acting and writing style started to grate a little on me after a while) but I liked the fact each cousin had their own set of puzzles that interlocked with the other two. Larry wasn't terrible but it could've been better and the $5 iOS price tag is a lot more appropriate than the $20 PC price even if you lose the voice acting (you're not missing much there). Monaco was a fun ride but a good reminder as to why I dislike multiplayer games I can "beat": I'm absolutely terrible at trying to coordinate getting people together on the Internet to play the levels I need to finish which is the same reason I've stalled out on Magicka each time I've attempted it. I'm going to try and knock Monaco closer to 100% completion at some point just because I had a lot of fun with it.

I also didn't pick up anything in Steam sale aside from minor cosmetic DLC that was on sale for Borderlands 2 and Bioshock: Infinite. Sorry for inflicting pile pain on everyone else

August is going to be a slow month. I'm expecting to hit a wall in SMT IV at some point (assuming I can actually get more than a few hours into it each week) and there's two releases I'm mostly interested in: Pikmin 3 and Saint's Row IV. Pikmin 3 is already pre-ordered because it's a Wii U title and I've always been curious about the franchise. I'm still debating whether or not I should get SRIV because I didn't really get very far into SR3 and the pre-order incentives are tempting. Other than that there's Plants vs. Zombies 2 (assuming it's not delayed again) and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team which I plan on borrowing from Demyx at some point after she's done with it.

*Massive List*

I have to say when I see giant to play lists like this it makes me happier about my decision to do a Child's Play donation this year instead of spending it on gifts.

I should do the same, although next year I might only send out short games like McPixel and Gunpoint. That way I'm not adding a ton of weight to people's piles.

Remaining Pile: 77

My pile is up two game from last month... but I after 93 hours of game play, I've gotten my platinum trophy for Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory! At least that's one game no longer blocking up my pile progress!

Ugh, this month was a bit of a fiasco:

Added

IMAGE(http://www.backloggery.com/images/new.gif) ....A bunch of other Steam stuff

Finished
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Pile Change: +a bunch
Remaining Pile:

Yeah, this month was a bit of a pile breaker for me--the willpower just wasn't there. Plus now with the release of SMT IV I barely touched anything else. Luckily August is going to be an off month that will allow me to play some catch up.

Right?

As a web developer, if I was running backloggery.com, I'd start blocking image references from some oddball site called 'gamerswithjobs' - you guys should send him monies to pay for his bandwidth

I sneaked in a purchase of Shin Megami Tensei IV right at the end of the month.

And see, I was thinking I'd add "Pile Thread BBCode" as a feature on my site (you know, when I get to it).

*cracks whip*

Probably my worst month in 2 years. Of course the dropped games are because I traded them in at Game$top for an insultingly low value despite 50% extra credit, and that enabled pick up all the Steam stuff with the Steam gift card I picked up.

13 new games! And I was doing great despite PS+ this year. I've basically traded buying new games with money out of pocket for PS+ and that aforementioned trade in fiasco.

I'm not doing so bad, save for ps+ giving me tons of games to play. I've only really purchased one game in the past month (Ni No Kuni) and my pile depletion's been pretty good up to now. However, I'm playing to lengthy games at the moment, the aforementioned and FF XIII, as well as Infamous 2 (which should be done soon, I think) among others. I'm trying not to lose my focus hehehe. Two JRPG's at one, I know! not smart for pile depletion, but what the heck, I feel like rolling that way

And on the last day I add Tales of the Abyss and Way of the Samurai 3 onto my pile.

Oddly enough, the latter is actually for research.

Jumping in really late, but better late than never. As I'm just joining, sorry in advance for the massive post.

So by the end of the year I'd like to have off the pile:

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (PC)
Castlevania III (NES)
DooM 3 (PC)
Dragon Quest VIII (PS2)
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (NGC)
Fatal Frame II (PS2)
Final Fantasy IX (PS1)
Fire Emblem (GBA) - time to remove this after years and years in my DS's GBA slot.
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (PC) - cannot take down the final boss so far despite a bazillion attempts.
God of War II (PS2)
Goonies II (NES) - this was impenetrable as a child, but it just made Gametrailer's list of 10 best Metroidvania's, so...
Illusion of Gaia (SNES)
Jamestown (PC)
L.A. Noire (PC)
Legend of Kage 2 (NDS)
Lego Star Wars II (NGC)
Mafia II (PC)
Mario Kart DS (NDS)
Ninja Spirit (TDuo)
Patapon (PSP) - (holy cow, I had to look up "PSP"! Clearly a beloved system!)
Penny Arcade's On the Rain-slick Precipice of Darkness 3 (PC)
Resonance (PC)
Serious Sam 3 (PC)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
Shadowgate (NES)
Super Mario World (SNES)

The Last Story (Wii)
The Walking Dead (PC) - episodes 1 through 5
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (PC)
Unreal (PC)
Unreal: Return to Na Pali (PC)

It's a bit sad how little my list seems to change year on year.

Planning to get:

Metro: Last Light (PC)
The Last of Us (PS3)
Far Cry: Blood Dragon (PC)
...and a few more on my Steam wishlist if they're cheap and I can get the uncensored version (being in Germany...)

A little LTTP, but the August thread, Clear Them Out, While You Still Have a Chance is well and truly live.

So late in fact, I caught an echo.

*sigh* Well... since I was just purchasing Deepak Chopra's Leela (not counting it as a game, mind you, so not pile-worthy in any way) for my significant other, I'm gonna break my "no games till black Friday" rule and take DuckTales, Guacamelee, Charlie Murder and Guardian Heroes Remastered into the fold. They just looked so lonely and hungry and cold and... Oh well... :D:D:D

I really enjoyed Guacamelee, but I had to move across the country and leave my PS3 in Florida before I got to finish it.

I watched the GB Quicklook of DuckTales, though, and while it looks pretty, I'm not sure I like that they didn't just do a straight remake. I dug out a copy of DT for NES and played it. The music is still amazing.

Whew. At least I beat something this month.

ClockworkHouse wrote:

Yeah I finished one game a week back or so, Evoland. Not sure anything else is going down. Having trouble deciding what to play. I look at the pile and just sit there in awe...

I'll probably finish Pikmin 3 this week but I think that's it for me this month. Pile got waylaid by the bundle from the Boston Festival of Indie Games kickstarter too. Argh.

I'm looking to add a Vita and Sony BluRay Player to my list of electronics in an attempt to stop me buying a PS4 at launch.

Thankfully, I am yet to see the logic in the above statement.

That's because there isn't any.

That's a funny way of saying Playstation 3

I will deal with crappy last-gen versions of games like Watch_Dogs if it means not spending $500 on an XBONE for some time.

I am extremely curious at the quality of these cross gen games. Especially ones like Watch_Dogs that are new IP and engine.

Oh, me too. I suspect that will be what pushes me over the hump to the next gen sooner rather than later.
