Happy Hump Day Survey!

Happy Hump Day!

Do you have a thing that you always want on your birthday? For me, it’s a Carvel ice cream cake with the layer of cookie bits in the middle. That thing tastes like childhood happiness.

My mother makes a yellow sponge cake with chocolate icing. The kind of icing where you melt chocolate chips and beat in confectioners sugar until it turns fluffy. It's super simple, but it's the best cake in the world.

Every year I tell CptDomano that I want a giant cookie from Mrs. Fields for a birthday cake and eeeeeeeeeevery year he thinks I'm kidding.

A thing? No, not really. I do really like having the attention and happy birthdays and whatnot, though.

It doesn't have to be a tangible object. If you have something you like to do every year, that works too! Having my sweet dose of ice cream cake nostalgia, earlier this week, made me think of the question.

Birthday steak and whiskey.

Pie. Preferably homemade double-crust apple, but french silk is a decent backup. Fits solidly in with the nostalgia theme: growing up, my mom made two pies for birthdays - one for the birthday celebration, and one for the birthday-haver to eat/share/trade with at their sole discretion.

What I want for my birthday is for nobody to acknowledge that it is my birthday and for it to just be a day like any other.

Happy Hump Day! Where did you go begrudgingly but ended up enjoying yourself? A travel destination/city, event, a restaurant or entertainment venue, metaphorical journeys, etc.

I may have to use my "phone a parent" for this one...

Living full time in a fifth wheel and traveling. I had no idea if I'd like it at all. Ended up being some of the best times of my life. We're being forced off the road due to life circumstances, but it's still calling. This is only going to be a stop on our journey if I have anything to say about it.

Over the age of 29, any party I've been invited to.

Buying a house. I didn't want to do it, but my wife really wanted to get out of apartments and into our own place. I didn't want to deal with all the hassles of homeownership, but so far, I have to admit that the benefits have far outweighed the frustrations. I still f*cking hate yardwork, though, and feel like the whole thing is just a status symbol.

Disney world Honeymoon - it was a fall back after Katrina, and I knew my wife would love it, but I didn't know I'd end up needing to be dragged back from the parks each night

Yeah, it's pretty easy to say "any family vacation when I was a kid". I never wanted to go anywhere, I never wanted to do anything. But each year I had an amazing time. I remember when I was 14 and we did a road trip to the Grand Canyon. I pretty much dreaded going on that trip, but had an absolutely amazing time. The Grand Canyon is actually totally awesome and it's just beautiful there. I'm planning on taking my kids on a road trip there next year.

Dance classes for me.

Work. And yeah, parties tend to have an inverse relation between anticipation and actual fun had.

The Back to the Future movie. Back then usually the only info you had on a movie as a kid was a picture in the paper on the movie times page. The one picture just did not endear me BUT it was a great movie!

HAPPY HUMP DAY!!!
