Steam Phishing

So I got a steam message yesterday from a GWJ user that I've not seen active in the forums or in games I've played in a VERY long time.

He gave me a link and said fill it out the and you'll get a free game.

I lol'd and said (after uneasily opening the link, but i'll give all GWJ'rs a chance) no thanks. Looks to risky.

He then said it's "Orcs Must Die 2 and it's on your wishlist", and he went on a couple more times trying to assure me this was the new way gifting was done.

So was I right in ignoring him since it seemed a goodjer got hacked or is this really the new way of gifting and I just blew off a honest guy trying to be nice.

If the link had humblebundle in it, then you're good - that's how gifting games you buy in Humble Bundles works.

Also, I read that person posting about that exact experience earlier today on these very forums, so it seems very safe

P.S. Can't remember who or in which thread....

It did have Humble Bundle, but the fact I hadn't seen him in awhile made me cautious. I looked for a thread about this before but didn't see anything.

Now I feel bad.

I'm not inactive.. :S

I even started the Winter 2013 steam sale thread :S

That's why... ;P

It's all good. Danyboy can tell you he got Serious Sam 3.

Do you still need the link for the game ? I can send it back for you. I have been somewhat less active, as I play more consoles nowaday.

Oh god, they've hacked his GWJ account, too!

Spoiler:

Kidding, kidding - hooray for generosity, and good to be careful, though I think we all know Psych would have clicked.

Steam fishing?

Na na na na na na na na Fishing!

Yeah a GWJer reached out to me today to ask for votes for his Intel Pro League team.

GWJ mods may wanna pin this for a while so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

This is a bit of an old thread. The thread for the current phishing phlurry is here.
