Post me a .GIF - Tell me a story!

Maybe it's my browser, the video tag is chopping off the right third of the video instead of resizing it to fit.

Mine is as well, on Firefox at least.

It is probably weighting it down but when the "video" tag exists for mp4s shouldn't we use it? These don't feel like youtube videos but should they go in the video thread?

Hmm I'd assume things using video tags would go in the video thread, but I don't know. Guess it depends on what others think?

I use the dreaded Chrome.

I think the video tag was quickly adopted because it's such a pain to get .gif to work. They're often close to 100MB if they're of any length/detail, and getting them converted doesn't always work. Just look at previous pages to people simply pasting the path since getting them working in the gif tag isn't possible.

Safari iOS: page loads way frickin faster than gif dumps but yeah, the previews are poor and breaking page width.

I think maybe the video tag shouldn't auto-start. That might help.

Now that I think about it, though, that would require the video to be encoded for streaming, and who knows whether that will be true of all the various sources for videos here.

As far as whether videos should go in this thread, yes, they should absolutely go in this thread. Most hosting sites convert GIFs to video now anyway. GIF has been on the way out for a while now.

Yeah. I see a huge difference between these things and a full "video" on Youtube (or Vimeo, etc.)

These really are just GIFs to me but they are encoded differently.

I, for one, welcome our new elephant janitors.

In 200+ pages I may have posted this before. I know I have seen it before, but it still makes me laugh.

I kind of feel if it has sound then it is a video. There is also a time component, like maybe over 30 seconds? Not sure exactly where I stand on that.

Huh, that's not working for me for some reason, but if I click through, it works. Might be Firefox's anti-tracker protection, maybe?

I have never found "gifV" files to work. Sometimes they still play if you modify it to just "gif" but often not.

I like that the new “video” versions don’t all try to autoplay when o open the page, and bring my (phone’s) browser to its knees.

That's my personal line in the sand. Gifs don't have sound.

And her balance. That is art with the human body.

That is allegedly not a man in a bateleur eagle suit.

A nice "reaction gif" to use

Love it. But my dogs would then treat the cat as their new stuffed toy and go looking for the squeaker.
