Last level of World Star. Of course right after posting I finished it. With all 3 stars, the stamp, and flag so I never have to go back.

Unless I want the 5th star. sh*t.

5th star? 0-o

On the save slot/profile, not the level.

Hm. The barrier to entry for this game is a bit higher than I expected. My wife and I finished two NSMB games together and she was an avid gamer through Mario Sunshine and she is finding this game very hard to control and is not having much fun as a result. I love it though.

Finally got to give the game a spin. Surprised myself at completing World 1 tonight already. And yes, it does seem like a game I can just play on the gamepad without concern, which means I may actually get through the game at a decent pace.

I haven't tried Peach yet, but thus far I'm most comfortable with Mario and then a bit with Luigi. Toad seems like a better character if you're filling a sort of support role. Doesn't jump as high, but he's very quick. Unfortunately, that means it's harder to judge a jump since the physics are quite floaty as it is.

Burn the unbeliever! Toad's been my main all game (since I tend to play him in Mario 2 a lot) and he's got no trouble getting through the levels.

Speaking of which, here's a good breakdown of what you need for the five profile stars. It has spoilers to the extent that a Mario platformer can have spoilers.

It looks like this isn't quite correct. I have two stars on my profile right now and I have yet to touch a single level of World Flower and I'm still missing a number of stamps and stars in World Star. World Mushroom and everything pre-Star are finished though. I have no idea when I triggered the 2nd star though.

Need to remind myself that I don't need to get all three stars before moving on to the next level. Banging my head against the same thing over and over again to get that last star is counter productive.

Bah, but then every time you look at the list for the levels, you'll see the missing star/stamp!

EVERY. TIME.

*shakes fist at the blank stamp icon for 2-3 (at least I think it's 2-3)*

I know, it's terrible. I'll go back and get them later. I'm one of those people who can fail at something 30 times in a row, come back the next day and finish it on the first try.

Then again, sometimes I just say "nope, that's not happening." Like one level in 3d Land featuring those rhythmic vanishing blocks, spinning fireball pinwheels, etc took me a million tries just go get through. Then I find out that it comes back in special world, except now you're being chased by dark Mario.

But you DO need all the green stars. Otherwise you'll never see the last world! :p

BOOOOOOOOO! I hate games that require perfection to see all the content. Require near-perfection, sure, but perfection is just annoying to me. I'm hopelessly imperfect.

If you needed to be perfect to get all the green stars, I wouldn't have reached the last world either!

I'm hoping the stars are of the "hidden in a clever way" variety instead of "requires perfect jumps and the reflexes of a 7-year-old going cuckoo for Coco Puffs". I like the former, hate the latter.

From what I've seen so far (finished up world 3), the stars have always just been cleverly hidden. Nothing requiring crazy perfect jumps....yet.

There's some of each.

I fully expect to run across some that inspire controller-chucking frustration. This is a bigger problem when I'm playing on the gamepad.

Also, if you're having trouble with jumps and not playing as Peach... play as Peach.

Don't worry, on it.

This. Playing as the right character makes all the difference. I am terrible at 3D Mario games (and they tend to really stress me out) and I'm a handful of World Star stamps and stars away from opening up the last world.

I had 3 stars on my profile while still missing flags, stamps, and stars from World Crown. I think this list is wrong and World Flower and/or Mushroom trigger stars somehow, regardless of total completion.

Heh that post should say World Star. I hadn't unlocked Crown yet.

World Crown is no joke.

I'm just finishing up my clean-up, getting all the stars, stamps and flags I missed, prior to embarking on the extra worlds. I lost interest in collecting when I reached Bowser World as I wanted to see the boss fight, and my general policy is not to replay levels until post-game if I miss something. It's been a fun few hours; despite my extensive Mario experience in the last couple of years, the difference in my skill level since starting this game is ridiculous. I was laughing at stuff that I struggled with on the first try.

I'm something like halfway through world 5, and still getting all three stars and the stamp for each level before moving on. It hasn't been too bad so far, since usually I get at least two of them on my first run through. The only real PITA one so far was the one in the bouncing somethingorother level where you needed to carry a spring board over three bouncing platforms to get at a star. That took a few tries.

I'm digging that you can sometimes get hints from the Miiverse posts post-level. At least once that got me a star I'd missed. I just wish you could scroll through them faster if you're looking for a hint.

And there's the wall. World Mushroom has pretty much killed my interest in playing. I hate levels that are only hard because of a low time limit. I hate worlds that are based on staying on top of moving platforms. I hate when they make getting a star a power up check for a power up that's not in the level, or for a particular character.

Basically, I'm to the part that's in every Mario game where it stops being a game I can play, and that always makes me sad, because I was having fun up til now.

If you don't have a power up for a star, try blowing on the gamepad (really). There's usually a hidden coin box nearby with what you need.

Also, unless I'm misremembering, there's only one character-specific star in the game. There are multiple character- specific stamps.

Seems like a lot of the levels in mushroom and flower are remixed levels from earlier in the game. Does that continue until the end? Not a fan of "same level as before, but with more enemies and a shorter time limit."

Does Rosalina have a special power other than looking fabulous?

ClockworkHouse wrote:

Take this one I mentioned: Piranha Creeper Creek After Dark. The main challenge in the level is the second green star which requires you to:

Spoiler:

Light torches scattered around a poison river while navigating across spinning and moving platforms and dodging those big piranha creepers that you have to hit to make retract. So the challenge is to not only make it across the platforms but to light the torches and keep from taking any damage so that you don't lose your fire flower power-up.

It's maddeningly difficult. I dumped a dozen or so lives into it before deciding to switch characters. And wouldn't you know, switching from Rosalina to Peach made it much easier to accomplish.

Spoiler:

I couldn't get that one even using Peach. I just couldn't manage to aim my fireballs right with the lack of depth perception. It made me want to be playing on the 3ds. I may go back and try that again with my wife manning the gamepad. The gamepad person can cause the plants to retract by tapping on them, which helps a bunch, but is basically impossible to do while you're trying to play.

Just for Mushroom and Flower.

Hit the run button. Remind you of anything in Galaxy?
