George Zimmerman Arrested

Pages

George Zimmerman was charged with a felony and two misdemeanors today in an alleged assault on his pregnant girlfriend. Gosh, who could have seen this coming?

Oh boy. I was worried that I'd never get the chance to hear about this bozo on the news again. I am ecstatic. This is marvelous. :-[

Why did I know it involved a firearm even before I clicked on the link?

An emboldened racist prone to self-righteous violence getting in trouble for... *gasp* more violence? Say it ain't so, Sam.

Surely he'll face some repercussions that straighten him out before anyone really gets hurt.

FTFY, right?

The further adventures of Florida Man.

911 call which he made while the police were there so "everyone could know the truth."

*facepalm* That's what your police statement is for. You should know that, the last time you gave one, they took it so seriously, they didn't bother investigating anything for weeks.

Guys cmon he just did what Biden told him and bought a shotgun.

Hey, just checking. I don't know SpaceP's perspective, and people think weirder things than that.

Yeah, but he was supposed to shoot it into the air, not point it at people.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone is dumb enough to be his girlfriend and get pregnant.

Well if had just shot her in the face he wouldn't have been arrested.

It's sad (and sadly accurate) that this man seems so keenly aware that he has an audience he needs to play to. It's like he thinks he's on a reality tv show and is gonna have to go TELL OF ALL DA HATERZ on twitter later rather than feeling like this is real damn life with real consequences.

Your safest bet with me is to assume bitter, cynical irony and pitch-black non-humor. Succinctly and earnestly, I feel Zimmerman ought be in prison for life.

Cool. What this story needed was some good Red vs. Blue snark. Every story is opportunity to point out how lame Democrats are, right?

Yikes, quite a zinger!

For the record, though I think it is very likely that Zimmerman is (morally) responsible for Martin's death, I do think that a "not guilty" verdict was the correct finding, from what I've read of Florida's laws and the testimony from the trial. I don't see anything that proved guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and lay the blame for this squarely at the feet of the Sanford PD.

George may or may not have instigated the fight with his ex-wife. He may or may not have instigated the fight with his girlfriend. It's possibly that George is guilty of nothing more than being the wrong man at every single time.

I still found the line in kazooka's post where an officer is having to tell Zimmerman not to play with his gun during a traffic stop more than a little alarming. If that's accurate, it definitely would lead credence to the notion that George Zimmerman is far too casual about firearms, even after having been charged with murder in the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Pretty sure this story is inherently red vs. blue snark. It's not like we'd be talking about this if it were some other random guy from Florida.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I love me some good political snark, but it's only fair that we let the red staters play, too.

I'd like to think some of you at least get some rough chuckles from my posts, and if partisan snark in general isn't allowed here as a rule I'll certainly stop. But considering the source of the complaints, and the fact that every other thread devolves into "I HATE CONSERVATIVES LET ME TELL YOU WHY" - the Straight Talk Express will continue.

I chuckle at your posts, sometimes.

Given that it's about racial disparity in the justice system, the idea that there is a political party who views the concerns of race this story prompted as pointless... really doesn't say great things about that party in this day and age.

Possibly one of the best things that could happen for gun rights enthusiasts would be if that pudwaste just spontaneously caught fire in a crowded place and no one did anything about it.

He is an embarrassment to anyone who has ever owned a firearm.

Meh. You say this like owning a firearm is some kind of badge of official merit, only awarded to those deserving of it, and hallowed as a paragon of virtue by all in the community.

Which is clearly bollocks.

The problem with guns in this country is that assholes can get them just as easily as everyone else.

Jonman... that is... that's genius.

I thought it was funny.
I can just imagine people using that line of defense out too. "Jeez, first he gets in trouble for using a pistol. Now he's using a shotgun like Biden said and you're still getting on his case!"

I'm not sure if I'm the source of the complaints in your post, but I make an effort to keep snark (partisan and otherwise) to a minimum on my part.

I'm not interested in moderating, but I do often find myself wishing you put even half as much effort into constructive engagement as you do into the driveby snarking.

You're a bright guy (even though we disagree on most political issues), and it bums me out that you feel like posts like the shotgun one are the best contribution you have to offer.

I saw his bail was set at $9,000 and it made me wonder if he will use money which he got donated during the Maritin case. That in turn made me wonder if those who donated money to him would be pissed that the money they donated to get him off for case #1 was being used to get him off for case #2.

I don't think it really is a red vs. blue story. And it wasn't framed as such until Norm played his Biden joke for what I estimate is the 16th time in P&C.

Personally, I'm with Dimmerswitch, in that I think Zimmerman was to blame, but with the law and the lack of facts, Zimmerman should have been found not guilty. Hopefully he will f*ck up just enough that he can get taken out of society without killing anyone else first. The dude is a menace.
