Battlefield 4 - Catch-All (It's ALIVE)

I guess part of it depends on how the XP bonuses stacked. Was he getting 400% or 800%?

EDIT: As for voice, I use both. Vent seems more for random chitchat, though some people do seem to talk strategy in there.

The game I was talking about, you were in my squad. It was great using in-game VOIP.

And, so if the consensus is lukewarm on VOIP - what do you guys do when you're in a squad that just isn't talking? I find that to be a huge part of the experience for me, communicating with squadmates and coordinating. It's a blast. I'm afraid that it'll feel empty and directionless if no one is talking.

Ran and I were in vent this morning and it was great as we often found ourselves following one another and if I died behind him I'd let him know that there's a guy coming up.
Just in time to turn around to get a bullet in the face.

It was great for forwarning, or afterwarning of impending doom.

It's liking talking into the abyss. No one responds on the in-game VoIP if they are on Teamspeak.

I don't know, I've occasionally had really good squad mates coordinating. It's not the majority of the time, but if somebody starts talking, others often follow.

I even was in a game the other night on the Dam map and had a commander that I was coordinating back and forth with on VOIP. He was specifically giving me High Value Targets and flags to support, and I was telling him what I was able to support so he'd set objectives.

I don't even know how to do that from Commander (talk to specific people).

I remember playing MAG on the PS3 that had features like that. Really adds to the immersion of the game. In MAG though there were up to 256 players playing at a time, so coordination was critical for success.

This happens to me all the time. most of the time i didn't even notice i'd become leader until i get an accidental order.

This is true for me as well - I rarely realize that I've been promoted to Squad Leader, because the game has trained me to ignore the big pop-ups. Yes, thank you for telling me I got promoted ... and blocking my line of sight so that I got killed. Jerks.

If you like Frankie, you might like Jack Frags.

I think we've all been in helicopter situations like those.

I love it when people are talking in game. I think it really adds to the experience. But for me personally, I often can't talk while gaming because my wife is usually either working, reading, or sleeping nearby and it's definitely kept me from playing games where I think communication is crucial (I'm looking at you, L4D). For Battlefield, the majority of my matches have been totally silent (which seems normal for pub games) and it's okay. There's definitely less team cohesion that way, but the game is still fun.

Assuming I were in a position to talk and the rest of the team was silent I'd just start talking. Once you break the ice, the others should start talking a bit too. Definitely on the GWJ server anyway.

Looking forward to climbing the rankings as the top guys head over to Ghosts tomorrow...

Or is that in bad taste?

I vote insta-ban for anyone using racial/homophobic slurs of any kind.

Don't invite pubbies to Vent, simple as that.

I only hop on vent for the casual talking bits. You really can't coordinate anything when you have both teams in the same channel. In game VoIP has improved enough to serve that purpose I think.

But maybe if we try the whole "closed night" thing on a Thursday or something two vent channels might be neat for team wide coordination.

Ps. Missed the abusive talk bit. Wow this thread moves fast.

I always thought my "trash talk" bordered on flirtation more than abrasion but if I make anyone uncomfortable toss me a pm.

I don't know why games make me "flirty" with men. Maybe I should be glad I don't share this space with my gf.

Wow was that stuff really going on over the weekend?

Yea Vent admin here as well. No one has been abusive on vent that I've noticed but do need to point out that the saltiness is turned way up when it comes to BF and a touch more on Thursday nights. Trash talking is almost a requirement on Thursdays

As for warnings, kicks, and bans. If someone keeps getting a bit nasty i'll say something and if they continue i'll kick. If they come back and behave its no big deal, but if they come back lambasting just as bad or worse I just ban. If someone starts off with Certis is awesome or racist type talk it's just an instant ban.

Too clear it up for anyone new, Certis is Awesome type talk refers to derogatory homosexual references. The site will replace it with Certis is Awesome. The phrase "Certis is Awesome" may be used mockingly against Certis himself in reference to his BF4 gameplay skills at any time. ;)

My age is showing he killed me a few times in a row last night :D

The ultimate shame.

Yup. I'm staying with Battlefield. I'd be playing now if I could be. Stupid work getting in the way of a good time.

Yeah I have a feeling he's a bit of a hustler. One game I had 0-4 against him. Don't let his end match kd and all the self-depreciating talk on the podcast fool you (or is it Elysium? I don't know I always mix the two guys up).

Elysium is the one who plays guitar and talks about playing guitar. I'm the one who does everything else.

It is OK on a smaller server I guess, but not with 64 people. It is just a meat grinder at that point. It is pretty much the same problem I had with Metro. I am obviously not in the majority on this issue.

I don't mind it on the occasional rotation, but I couldn't play it for more than 1 round at a time. That being said, it's a great map to level up weapons.

Remember if you're going up against Certis, approach him from the right

Spoiler:

or me for that matter, my right ear kinda sucks too

In our defense, the server was actually on a normal rotation.

I really do need to go back to the PDW's. Once I hit carbines, I really haven't looked back though. That being said, the MX4 seems pretty damn good.

He seems to really like bullets in this particular game. So much so that he lets other people give them to him at a very high rate of fire. He's really good at it!
