Typing of the Dead: Overkill (pc) Let's Spell some guts!

Just got this today on steam (actually got it on GMG for $8). Only played the first chapter but wow is this ever fun!

I realize this is a wii/ps3 remake but I missed out and the campyness of the game is great! The phrases you have to type to kill some of the undead and cutscenes are stupidly great!

Anyone else playing? I highly recommend it from what I've played so far. Also anyone who is playing it, do you know how to pick up collectibles?

Thanks for the tab tip was it mentioned in game or just under control options?

Fixed the thread title as well thanks

Hit Tab when they are in your field of view to pick up items.

Still have my Dreamcast keyboard for the old version, really glad they decided to redo the new ones. Helps me keep up my skills.

Hit the TAB button to collect Health and Adrenaline (basically spam the button when you’re not typing/shooting).

This game is sooo bad-ass. I’m absolutely loving it!

Great sale price, too. I went with $8 GMG (Steam key) also.

EDIT:

On a side note, you might want to consider changing the thread title to "Typing of the Dead: Overkill (PC)" or something so people know you're talking about the new PC port of the Wii grindhouse-inspired title and not the OG Dreamcast one from 2001.

When I saw the PC in the thread title I thought it was a bit redundant, I mean what other platform would have you typing? I learned something today.

I may grab this some time, looks fun.

I need to pick this up. I still have the original and break it out on occasion, so there is no reason not to get this.

Wow the game has really shown me what a terrible typer I am. So far havent broken a c rank on the medium difficulty on any level. What a steal at $8 if your interested get it before the sales are up it goes to $19.99 next week I believe.

Extremely clever thread title.

I have a PC version that apparently predates that for Dreamcast. Clever game, but it had a game-exit bug--that is, you couldn't.

Great news that there's a new, different version.

Wish I could take credit for the thread title haha I think I saw it or something similar on promotional content somewhere for it, cant remember where exactly.

The cutscenes for this game are cracking me up

Damn... I loved that game on the Wii. Sold.

Pretty sure that's actually an accurate transcript of a typical run through one of ToTD's levels.

Not to spoil anything about the game but there is a boss you could actually beat by typing those exact words

Big 2GB update tonight.

Added multiplayer mode and Shakespeare dictionary DLC ($2.99).

I gave the first level a whirl and immediately notice an impressive performance bump. Load times are wicked faster (no more "shuffling zombie" loading icon), audio seems synced much better, and I'm not noticing audio drops as presented at launch.

Game feels way more fluid post patch.

w00t!!

Yeah, this is Overkill, not the classic game. It's fun, but I miss the old one.

Do you mean the classic Dreamcast Typing of the Dead?

Yes.

It's a shame that I'm a Dreamcast owner eternally fascinated by TotD who never picked up the game. Guess I was at the wrong place at the wrong time in this regard.

TotD: Overkill was an insta-buy on Steam. I never had much interest in the light-gun version of the game, but the opportunity to revisit the typing part proved to be a boon.

We loved it. I used it to teach my kids how to type.

Sweet.

Beats the dry typing class I took in high school pre-computer age.

Kind of weird in retrospect that I was simply gunning for an easy credit load. Proved far more useful after the fact compared to Home Ec!

I haven't been interested in actually buying and playing this game myself ... until now.

Filth of the Dead DLC

I'm laughing aloud just at the few screenshots on display. If the base game gets a deeper discount than 50% off during the winter sale, I may get it, just to play this DLC.

Ha!

I'm waiting for the Shakespeare DLC to go on sale, but I've always been a Lit snob.

I would like to combine the packs and see what we get.
