Star Trek Online Catch-All

Sweet - it looks like we have at least five to do some of the Starbase Challenges!!!

I am hoping to do testing on Tribble once it gets on there to see what we will need. Currently it looks like a little of everything...

FYI this is a great listen:

Vault Shuttle Event

Greetings Captains,
Control of the Vault has once again fallen into the hands of the Romulans. Obisek, leader of the Reman Resistance, is sending his ships to draw off the bulk of the Romulan fleet. While the Remans battle in space, Obisek will lead a small force in shuttles to infiltrate the Vault and reclaim the station for his people.
But the Romulans will not abandon their prize so easily. The battle will be difficult. Can you take control of the Vault before time runs out to assure victory and independence for the Remans, or will Romulan oppression continue?
The Vault Shuttle Event is a queued event for Federation Vice Admirals and KDF Lieutenant Generals. Players must be in a small craft (shuttle, fighter or runabout) to help Obisek regain control of the Vault. Inside, they will face waves of Romulan fighters, entrenched turret batteries, Birds-of-Prey and other Romulan surprises.
During the event, you will need to protect Obisek's ship as he works to override the command codes and hack into Romulan control systems. But this isn't a one-man job – players will need to work together to help Obisek with tasks that arise as he initializes the override sequence. Listen for his instructions during this fast-paced, timed event.
In exchange for your help, the Remans are offering Datalogs that contain encrypted information about Romulan and Reman technology. You can use these Reman Datalogs in special Duty Officer Assignments available from your ship's Intelligence officer to earn special gear for your vessel, including a set of Very Rare Mk XII ship equipment!
The Vault Shuttle Event will be live on Holodeck after maintenance on Thursday, April 19. So jump into your shuttle and check the Mission Journal for available times. It's time to join the resistance!

April 19?

It is old - says at the top season 5. Doh!!!

It did pop on the front page. Still good info on the vault event.

Here is a couple of things I noticed off Tribble:

Perfect World is running a promotion to get you to link your Cryptic account with theirs. Something, coincidentally, I personally haven't done yet. Kinda glad I didn't...

Perfect World Account Link Reward

If eligible (see details below), you will be able to claim this item through the in-game C-Store, under the ‘Items’ tab.

Reward contains:

• 5,000 Unrefined Dilithium Ore

• A consumable item that grants 2,500 EXP (or Bridge Officer skill points if your character is at max level)

• A random Rare or Very Rare weapon, scaled to your level (space or ground)

• A pack of random ‘Self’ Dual Consumables

• A pack of random ‘Team’ Dual Consumables

NOTE: This item may only be claimed once per account. If you claim it on one character, you will not be able to claim it on a different one.

Huh. I haven't either and didn't really want to. I don't care about PW's other FTP offerings.

I guess that's a nice chunk of Dilithium and a nice weapon. The xp won't help my main, and if it's locked to character then I can't dump it on my alt. But I sure don't want a low level rare weapon on my alt that isn't worth using or selling.

Indeed. I think you can apply the reward to whichever character you want, but after you do it, it's locked...and I bet you can't separate the reward between characters.

Thus, it appears you have to choose which is better: a random weapon that's scaled to the level of your Main, or 2500 EXP for your Alt (unless the Bridge Officer Skill points are attractive for your Main, which in my case, they aren't). 2500 EXP looks like it translates to one skill level, if you're at the Captain rank, which my Alt is.

I can't remember how close my Alt is to leveling up to Admiral. If I'm close, I may just do that. If not, the Rare+ weapon may be more useful.

Well I was not thrilled with the linking of accounts because PWE does not have the best rep with account security. However, from what I read it will come a time when your forced might as well get the perks while there here.

Also I noticed you buy ZEN now which is the currecny PWE uses it covert it too CP. http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=...

However I did notice since I use STEAM as my launcher it still uses the STEAM wallet and CP so I will always buy thru my STEAM wallet if needed. That way PWE never sees my CC info!!!

FYI this is turning to a cluster #$^% - I can login into the game from launcher, but if I log to switch toons it tells me my username/password are wrong.

Ugh.

Thanks for saving me the trouble. I'll wait until I hear some issues are ironed out.

Starbase Alerts

IMAGE(http://images-cdn.perfectworld.com/www/c4/b7/c4b709f614a09d5887e601e24c7dd3eb1340217713.jpg)

You didn’t really think you could build a starbase and hostile forces would simply ignore it, did you?

Occasionally, during the course of normal gameplay, players in a fleet will receive notification that their starbase is under attack. When this special kind of alert shows up, players have the option to queue up (via the alert itself) and defend their starbase. When the queue launches, players will be moved to their starbase along with other queued members of their fleet. You and your fleet mates will need to work together if you want to drive back the attacking forces.

Starbase Alerts are similar to Red Alerts in that you must defeat a certain number of attackers in a set amount of time. If you’re able to do so, you have the chance to earn bonus rewards by defeating the captain of the invading force. The attackers are chosen at random with each engagement, so you’ll want to be sure you’re prepared for all possibilities.

Low-level players can participate in these alerts, as they will temporarily have their level raised to 50 during the course of the event. Also, it’s important to note that participation in these alerts is completely optional, and there is no penalty for declining them or failing them. The only thing lost will be the opportunity to earn rewards.

We’ll see you in-game and in the Starbase Alerts when they launch with Season 6: Under Siege.

Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack

Since the Duty Officer system was unveiled, we have experimented with a couple of different ways of expanding the system. Some of these ideas included new species, new active roster abilities, Ultra-Rare Duty Officers, new traits, mixtures of random and set Duty Officers, and Duty Officers bundled with bonus items. From that time, we have learned a lot, both about what works and what does not. The Reinforcements Duty Officer Pack is an effort to bring together some of these lessons and evolve them even further.

In particular, one idea we wanted to revive was the idea of including things other than Duty Officers in a pack. The Duty Officer system itself deals with a large number of items that act both as inputs and outputs, and we wanted to reflect that in this design. More info on that in a bit.

The Reinforcements Pack includes the same breakdown as previous packs: one Blue quality or better, two Green quality or better and four White quality or better. These new Duty Officers come from existing species. For Federation players, this means Human, Andorian, Vulcan, Tellarite, Caitian and Betazoid (the last was in order to put more Telepathic Duty Officers into the hands of Federation players to balance out the KDF Ferasan advantage). For Klingon players, this means Klingon, Orion, Gorn, Nausicaan, Lethean and Ferasan.

All of these Duty Officers are of existing specializations, but they all have alternate active roster abilities. In all, thirteen new active roster powers for eleven specializations have been created. In particular, we expect the new Energy Weapons Officer and new Flight Deck Officer active roster abilities to draw a lot of attention, as well as a non-career specific Security Officer variant active roster power and the return of the now-defunct EMH power, this time on Nurses and Medics.

Beyond these, we will also be introducing - separate from the Reinforcements Pack - standard active roster abilities for many non-Civilian duty officer specializations that never had active roster abilities. Existing Botanists, Biologists, Geologists and Research Lab Scientists will be gaining active roster abilities of their own when Season 6 launches. The new Duty Officers are only the beginning of the new Reinforcements Pack, however.

The alternate active roster abilities include:

Deflector Officer
Chance to reflect damage while using Polarize Hull
Flight Deck Officer (Variant 1)
Increase Carrier Defense while in Recall Mode
Flight Deck Officer (Variant 2)
Increase Fighter Accuracy while in Intercept Mode
Flight Deck Officer (Variant 3)
Increase Fighter Damage while in Escort Mode
Tractor Beam Officer
Drains -10 Engine Subsystem Energy with Tractor Beam Repulsors
Doctor
Triage and Medical Tricorder can trigger a second heal
Geologist
Create a Gravity Well effect on ground when using Gravimetric Shift
Gravimetric Scientist
Create an aftershock Tyken's Rift (same functionality as existing Gravity Well aftershock)
Nurse/Medic
Increased Crew Recovery when crew is <75%
Assault Squad Officer
Extra Team Heal and AOE Rez on Rally Cry
Energy Weapons Officer (Variant 1)
Reduce recharge time on Cannon Rapid Fire and Cannon Volley
Energy Weapons Officer (Variant 2)
Reduce recharge time on Beam Overload and Fire at Will
Security Officer
Increase melee Crit Chance and Crit Severity (ground)
In addition to any Duty Officers you receive, you also will get one (1) of the following special bonus prizes:

A stack of Gamma Quadrant commodities (which will be in high demand with the new Fleet Advancement and Starbase system)
A stack of Gamma Quadrant consumable devices (new devices based on the Gamma Quadrant commodities)
An Alien Artifact (available in both "Powered" and "Unpowered" versions)
A random Mk XII Very Rare Console
or the jackpot prize… a Tuffli Class Freighter Ship Pack

The new Freighter isn't intended for combat, though it actually is functional at that for the earliest part of your captain's career. It can be switched to from your regular ship like a shuttle and is crammed with every Duty Officer system special we could think of. You can buy commodities at merchant ship rates from the interior, it has a Bank, access to the Exchange, a Mail console, Crafting, a Trader with additional Trade Duty Officer assignments, and can even periodically call a Security Ship for Contraband, Tribble Bounty and Prisoner Exchange turn-ins. Here is some more detailed information about this freighter:

Tuffli Class Freighter

Freighters and Transports are large vessels designed for trade and long range cargo hauling. Almost all space-faring races utilize Freighters, and designs created by Ferengi and Cardassian corporations have become standard throughout the quadrant. The Tuffli Class Freighter is arguably the best vessel for managing Duty Officer Assignments, trade, cargo acquisition and transport, and other related commendation tasks.

The Tuffli Class Freighter interior has a number of amenities including a Trade Duty Officer Assignment contact, which is not standard on most starships. Both you and your allies can access the Trader.

Also assigned to the Freighter interior is a Quartermaster. The Quartermaster can sell you and your allies commodities at a discounted rate. A similar discount applies when you make any Energy Credit Purchase while onboard your ship (for instance, from Sector Space Freighter Stores). The interior also include access to the Bank, Exchange, Mail, and Crafting, all of which are accessible to you and your allies.

The Tuffli Class Freighter has access to a secure subspace channel to call in a Security Transport ship. The Security Transport will allow you to access Prisoner Transfer and Contraband Assignments. The Security Transport is not a combat support vessel, and can only be called when in Sector Space. It is accessible to you and your allies.

Finally, the Tuffli Class Freighter comes with a Transwarp Drive that will allow you to access the furthest corners of the quadrant. The Transwarp Drive will allow you to instantly access most Exploration Clusters. Note, like many older Transwarp drives, the Freighter's Transwarp has a small chance to fail.

Tuffli Class Freighters are not designed as combat vessels. They come with minimal armaments designed only to ward off pirates and other would-be threats.

Note: You can switch to your Freighter from any ship interior. Once you're done using it, switch back to any ship from the Freighter interior.

Here is another little FYI that is in testing on Redshirt and Tribble.

ello Captains,

At Cryptic Studios, we take the security of your account very seriously. To further advance our security measures, we are happy to announce that we are beginning testing of a new security feature to be included in all Cryptic Studios games. Account Guard is a new feature which is intended to help secure your Star Trek Online and/or Champions Online account from those who may try to maliciously access it.

This feature is being enabled on Tribble today, and we’ll be watching the forums closely for your feedback regarding this feature. We’ve also provided a brief FAQ, which you can see below, to answer some of the questions we know you’ll have regarding this feature.

Cheers,

Brandon =/\=

ACCOUNT GUARD FAQ

Q: What is Account Guard?
A: Account Guard is a system designed to protect the account you use to log into Cryptic games from unwanted access. It keeps track of the computers you have authorized on your account, and notifies you when your account is accessed from an unauthorized computer.
***
Q: How does Account Guard notify me when my account is accessed from an unauthorized computer?
A: Account Guard sends a notification to the email address associated with your account. This email details the time the account was accessed, and the IP address from which the access was attempted.
Your account will be inaccessible from that location until the Account Guard code delivered in the email is submitted to the game or website.
***
Q: What do I do if the login attempt in the notification is not mine?
A: Your account will be inaccessible from an unauthorized location without the Account Guard code that is sent to you. However, if you receive a notification for an authorization attempt that didn't come from you, change your password immediately.
***
Q: How do I authorize a computer using Account Guard?
A: When Account Guard notices your account has been accessed from a new location, it will prompt you for a special one-time code. That code will be delivered to the email address associated with your account. For this reason, we ask that you ensure the email address associated with your account is current; you can do so in the "Settings" tab of your "My Account" page on our website. To authorize that location for your account, just submit the code at the prompt.
Until you decide to de-authorize the computer, your will be able to access that account, from that computer, without interruption.
If you receive an Account Guard notification from a computer you don't recognize, we recommend you change your password immediately. Instructions and links will be included in the notification that is delivered to your email address.
***
Q: Account Guard references my "computer name". What is that?
A: Your computer is assigned a name when the operating system is installed. Account Guard automatically fills in this information. If you desire, you can also type a different name for that computer at the time you authorize it.
***
Q: Can I opt out of Account Guard?
A: Yes. At this time you will need to Contact Customer Support to opt out of Account Guard.
***
Q: Can I rename the computer name associated with my account?
A: If you de-authorize your computer, and log in again, you can re-name your computer at the Account Guard prompt.
***
Q: Do I have to authorize my computer with Account Guard for each game separately?
A: No. Account Guard functions across all Cryptic games. If you authorize your computer with one Cryptic game, it will be authorized with all Cryptic games.
***
Q: Will Account Guard work with my Perfect World account? Which games have Account Guard protection?
A: Account Guard is currently only available on Cryptic Games such as Star Trek Online and Champions Online, but Account Guard will protect your account whether you access those games using a Cryptic or Perfect World login.
***
Q: How often do I have to authorize my account through Account Guard?
A: Only as often as you change computers. If you remain on the same account and computer, and do not remove authorization, Account Guard will not prompt you again.
***
Q: I received a prompt to enter a code through Account Guard, but I never received an email. Help!
A: Make sure you're checking the email address associated with your account. Also, be sure to check your spam folder. If you still don't receive an email, contact Customer Support. You may also want to add [email protected] to your emails spam whitelist or address book.
***
Q: Can I generate a new authorization email if the first one doesn't show up?
A: If you log into your account again, another email will be sent to the address associated with your account.
***
Q: For how long does my authorization code last? Does the code expire if I don't use it?
A: The code will expire after a period of time, after which point it cannot be used. If your code expires, you can log into the game again, at which point a new code will be sent to the email address associated with your account.
***
Q: I logged into the game but wasn't prompted for an Account Guard code. Why wasn't a code sent to me?
A: If you've never logged into a Cryptic game before, you will not be prompted to enter a code the first time you log into your account.
***
Q: I already registered a computer with my account, but Account Guard is prompting me for a code. Is there a limit to how many computers I can authorize against my account?
A: Currently, only 10 computers can be remembered on your account at one time. If you go over your limit, the computer that you accessed least recently will be forgotten, and you will have to re-authorize it.
***
Q: I keep entering the wrong code, and now I can't get into my account. Help!
A: If you enter the wrong code too often, you may be locked out of your account. If this happens, wait a while before attempting to log in again. If you still can't log into your account, contact Customer Support.
***
Q: How can I ensure the security of my account?
A: First of all, remember to change your password frequently! Also, make sure your password is secure and not easy to guess. For more information on generating secure passwords, follow this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/on...
Keep your password unique. If you have multiple accounts, make sure they each have their own unique and secure password.

Yeah that was in one of the other posts on the last page or two. I'm glad it's optional. Don't want to be playing trying to complete something and have to go defend the base.

That makes it sound like it's possible to lose your @name if someone at PW already has it.

This just sounds worse and worse.

Also a lot of comments having the same problems as above, not being able to login from in-game anymore.

Sad part is I cannot even login to the website to submit a TT. I can do in game, but they just delete it with no response.

I re-downloaded today but am having a heck of time trying to get logged in. I tried to do the forgot your password and it says my email does not exist. Big problem because the site says my license is already used (no s*hit I registered it hehe)

+ Players are now able to discard the "Anti-Borg Unstable Matrix" if they so choose.

Did some testing on tribble with Fleet Starbases. It looks really good and is going to take a bit of effort in the later Tiers. Even in Tier 0 there where requirements that would be a little bit hard to meet for a small fleet such as ours (taking a bit of time to round up the items). Which brings up the reason I am posting. I am not sure we (Captains with Jobs) can make the finally Tier in our current state. It just the nature of being in GWJ and I am not judging. However, if we want to create a Tier 5 Starbase we will need a few more players...

Should I bother with the account linking? I keep trying to enter in my cryptic user/pass, but it always says invalid combination. Other than that, all this talk of starbases has me itching to get back into the game. Count me in for helping out with the starbase!

Well for now you can avoid doing the account linking; however, they had stated in the future it will be forced. The problem once I did it I can no longer login to the website or logout in game and switch toons. I have to drop all the way out and restart from launcher...

Well I got the login problem fixed after the whole linking mess. Basically you need to go in a change your password again and make it very simple. PWE is in the stone age when it comes to password security. Thankfully Cryptic is working on the account guard.

Anyway I am now able to login when switching toons.

Now I must post some bad news. I have decided to move on to another Fleet (Starfleet Elite Force) that I have been running STF's with over the past couple months. This was not an easy decision because I loved being with GWJ. However, after playing STO for two years it was getting lonely in space.

I moved both my main toons Khyron and One, I left Thas in the Fleet until I can make sure there is someone that wants to take the helm. If anyone needs help or advice please do not hesitate to ask. Also I have talked with my new Fleet leader and all are welcome to join if interested. With Season SIx to build a Starbase to Tier 5 it going to take a lot of effort and resources.

Remember it's not all hookers and sunshine,
/salute

Currenly all I do is login, hit a couple of quick Dil turn ins and some Dof missions. Sort of a drive through collect as much junk as possible in the least amount of time daily thing on a few toons. During this really short span of time..

Way way way more days than not. There are people wanting to make a fleet? o.O .. Im curious what is the angle here? This is like different times of day, really doesnt seem to matter. Like in the 90 percentile of the time. Been going on for months.. Im just like boggled that like 24/7 people are making fleets?.. Any idea what is going on? Do you get cookies?

I think the current use of the GWJ Fleet is to pool resources in the Fleet Bank, generally making everyone's experience better. We don't really "quest" together (to my knowledge...). But that Fleet Bank has proven useful to me on many occasions, so I'm glad we've got it!

Thanks for responce and the info 8), Though I assume you sorta misread or I wasnt very clear in my attempt to be moderately humorous. The question isnt about fleets really, its about the sheer volume of fleet creations and why it appears there is a fleet born like every minute or two on STO. XD... It just seems bazzar.

edit: Ok I just logged in, was in for less than one minute just now and guess what? Someone wants to make a fleet in general chat... wow
