Video Game Deals Catch-All

Sorry, misread.

The steam page still have a much better return policy than any of the other stores though

Not really a hidden gem, but I might grab Diablo 4.

So what are some hidden gems in the steam sale?

Currently I have these in my cart
Untamed Tactics
Wildermyth
Yakuza like a dragon
Persona 4 golden

I am thinking about
Avernum 2: Crystal Souls
Kena bridge of spirits
Xenonauts 2
Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion

Anyone want to enable or disable me on those?

Kena is a great game. I was surprised it wasn't a bigger hit when it was released. It reminded me of a traditional 3d zelda with challenging souls like combat. It's not as tough as a souls but it's not easy. I found the difficult was nearly perfect for myself who is below average at Souls games. It's really charming.

I would recommend people pick up Marvel's Midnight Suns. The legendary edition is $30 and it comes with all 4 DLC characters which integrate into the base game. Its a great story. The strategy and combat elements are really fun and constantly evolve as you level characters, get new cards, and get new team members. And it has fun sometimes goofy life sim elements. You can join a book club with Captain Marvel and Blade!

I've also been putting some time into a little game called Station to Station. It's not on a huge discount but I think its worth the $15. It looks like a railroad tycoon game, but it's more like a puzzle board game. A good challenge but pretty relaxing. Really great for bite sized play sessions

I use https://gg.deals/ for game keys. It imports Steam and GOG wishlist and you can add other favourites to check pricing.
As far as I am aware it is fully legit although it can also show other resellers that some may not want to use.

I wish gg.deals allowed filtering of the individual stores and integration with Augmented Steam. Otherwise it feels much better to navigate after only a few months of usage compared to isthereanydeal.

Trying to decide if that coupon is enough justification to pick up the DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 on Epic. DLC for a game I haven't technically finished and probably won't get back to for a while.

If "won't get back to for a while" means a year or more, just wait. It'll be cheaper by then.

Diablo 4 free weekend on Steam.

I really need to do a deep-clean on my wishlist, and start keeping a more active one. I think I will pick up Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2- it's a good deal, was very well reviewed, and I've never played it.

Tony Hawk 1+2 is awesome. Really took me back. Like most remakes of games that old, it looks and feels just like I remember it, but of course back in the day it was my imagination making it look that good.

The tragedy is that they won't be able to remake THPS 3+4 as I believe they were planning, because Blizzard engulfed and absorbed Vicarious Visions like a hungry amoeba after Diablo 2 Resurrected.

Now with Microsoft owning the company, maybe... just maybe...

I already pimped this game in the Games Without a Thread topic, but it deserves more recognition:

Worldless is available now on Steam and every console (including Xbox One and PS4). It may not be on sale everywhere, but it is a discount priced game. Steam has it for $18 (10% off). It's $20 on Xbox, PS, and Nintendo stores. (When searching for it, don't forget the L in WorLdless, or you'll only find a bunch of Wordle clones!)

Worldless is an gorgeous and creative exploration game with simple-ish puzzles and turn-based action combat. It has RPG elements, with a skill tree where you unlock your choice of more advanced abilities as you defeat enemies and absorb their power. Despite the variety of abilities, the controls are remarkably simple. It is very forgiving; if you fail something, you can try again with no penalty. One of the biggest plusses for me is that Worldless does not require you to learn intricate boss battles with weird mechanics. You use the same abilities you have used all along when fighting the bigger enemies.

Hard for me to describe well, but Xbox.com has a great overview here: https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2023/11/...

This game is beautiful in every respect. Art and sound design are outstanding. Reviewers and players alike are giving it high marks on review sites. Strong 82 (14 reviews) on OpenCritic, with 85% recommending Worldless, 94% Positive on Steam (35 reviews).

As for me: highly recommended; three thumbs up. The release version even fixed a few nitpicks I had with the demo version!

If you're still not sure, check out the demo, which should also be available everywhere (not sure about Switch, because I don't have one).

Worldless

I guess I check the forums once a year or so (maybe that'll change, I always think) so missed that, and hadn't otherwise heard of this game. Looks amazing, appreciate the recommendation.

To level 20.
Tempted, but probably holding off.

Few hidden gems from the steam sale (Will include %discount rather than price due to regional differences)

Shmups
--------
Crimzon Clover: World Explosion - 40% off

At first it's a silly over-the-top explosion of gamefeel and the most juiced up bullet hell you could imagine. The more you play, the more you realise how perfectly crafted it all is, and despite the chaos on screen, it's incredibly readable and fair. Creator is a world record holder DoDonPachi player and it shows. Master-crafted by a pro player.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1...

Refrain - Prism Memories - - 50% off

The single most underrated shmup I've ever played. The most unique bullet patterns I've seen, and a cool meter burning mechanic (think Street Fighter) with vastly different ships to play.

Quite accessible for beginners with a cool story and progression. Ramps up in difficulty for veterans too.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4...

The Hurricane of the Varstray - collateral hazard - - 90% off

One of the negative reviews on Steam states "Like the shoot-em-up version of cookie clicker", and lmao pretty much. It's super fast and weird and I'm mostly recommending it due to it being so damn cheap. An interesting interpretation of the genre. Fast, chaotic. Good for a few sessions.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4...

Judgement Silversword - 40% off but already cheap-cheap-cheap

The little brother of Eschatos (which is also great). This is a notable rarity for the Wonderswan, being created in a sort of "game jam" for the handheld. It quickly gained a cult following among shmup players due to it's rapid-pace levels and tight mechanics. The physical is worth hundreds of dollars, but you can pay pennies for it!

Cave shmup bundle - 66% off

The "crème de la crème" of the genre. Each of these are brilliant and it's mostly personal preference which one you'll enjoy the most. A quick summary:

Mushihimesama: Beautiful nature/bug inspired game with organic bullet patterns (6.5/10 difficulty)
Dodonpachi DFK: Over the top massive lasers and firepower. Cool risk and reward style of play. My favourite. (4/10 - 8/10 depending on ship type)
Deathsmiles: Gothic lolita horizontal shmup with an interesting left/right firing mechanic. Variable difficulty, but overall the easiest (3/10 difficulty)

https://store.steampowered.com/bundl...

Shoot 1UP 80% off

Another "not great but super interesting" sort of game. Command hundreds of ships in a weird body horror/erotic trip of a game. Every 1 up you obtain puts another ship on screen rather than giving you an extra life. Things get out of hand quickly

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3...

Overall pick

Crimzon Clover or one of the Cave games! Good novice modes to get you started and plenty of depth to chew into as you get better.

-------

FPS
----------

Dusk - 50% off

Quake meets Half-Life with a eldrith Chainsaw Massacre vibe. Masterclass in the oldschool style. Incredible level design only slightly let down by a fairly standard set of firearms to play with

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5...

Turbo Overkill - 30% off

CHAINSAW LEGS, CHAINSAW LEGS!

As fast as it is silly. Reminds me a little of Tribes in that your goal is to pick up speed by scooting down slops and chopping up anyone in your way with your CHAINSAW LEGS. Shooting mechanics are great fun, large open/vertical levels, and it has a sweet soundtrack. Some slight RPG upgrade mechanics keep it interesting.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1...

Aliens: Fireteam Elite - 67% off

I was pretty surprised by the lukewarm reception on this one. I'm pretty fond of it! It's more challenging than other co-op shooters and has a fun loot system. Not as polished as its peers, but a damn good time (especially if you enjoy the franchise!)

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1...

-------

Strategy/RPG (broad)
----------

Conan Unconquered - 70% off

A very competent "They Are Billions" clone with a fun theme. Not as polished as what it is trying to imitate, and could've used a few more patches before the devs stopped working on it, but a good buy at this price.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/9...

Warlords Under Siege - 35% off

A coffee-break base defense with card drafting. A fantastic little timewaster

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2...

Tinyfolks - 0% off. It's 5 bucks.

Cute squad management game with a minimalistic style. JRPG style battles, town management. Criminally undercosted.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1...

Siralim: Ultimate - 40% off

Literally THE Ultimate monster training game. So many incredible synergies to discover and near infinite depth. Reminds me somewhat of Disgaea in that you can just...keep...going, raising the most overpowered team of critters possible. Only in this game, you absolutely need to break the game wide open to be successful. Doesn't get much better.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1...

Creeper World 3 - 67% off

I'm a big tower defense fan and this one is the most unique take on the genre I've seen. Your goal is to build a perimeter of turrets to stop the fluid-based enemy from flodding your base. While this one is 2D (CW4 is 3D), it does a good job of indicating depth and accurately simulating fluid physics. Super interesting and worth the price of admission based on the concept alone.

The whole Creeper World series is great and everyone should try it.

I like Riftbreaker and Shapez. Mindustry looks a bit like a combination of those so I bought it 50% off in Steam sale.

Just some +1's

Creeper World Series, all of it is +1'd. I think it was last fall sale that I got them all and enjoyed them through December.
Riftbreaker, Shapez, Mindustry all +1. With a bonus going to Mindustry because you can continue your game on any mobile device.

But Conan Unconquered, +1 if you already own They Are Billions and want something similar but different. But if you don't already have They are Billions, get They Are Billions instead.

I deeply appreciate all these recommendations! Thanks!

Dusk is great and has a free remastered upgrade arriving in December (I’m looking forward to my third play through).

If you like that kind of game I highly recommend Amid Evil which is also 50% off in current Steam sale. Both games are Deck verified and play well on a wide variety of hardware.

Both games have been part of multiple Humble Bundles in the past so GWJers may have extra keys available. Check the master list.

Half Life Alyx is 66% off in Steam sale and is one of my favorite VR games. They really nailed immersive FPS VR. I played it streamed wirelessly from my PC to a Quest 2. Superhot VR is another good option at 60% off. FPS VR games really benefit from playing untethered. The first time I played Superhot VR I was so immersed in it I dodge rolled into the couch. Thankfully it was the couch and nothing fragile. By the time I got Alyx I’d made my VR play space bigger and safer which is good because that game doesn’t slow down like Superhot.

I'd throw out a recommendation for a free game:

Deliver Us Mars on Epic which is a sequel to one of the most beautiful and surreal games I've played, Deliver Us the Moon. I haven't played it yet but have come VERY close to hitting buy several times. If you're looking for a low/no combat game with photorealistic visuals and a good story, free is the price!

And my second recommendation from the Steam sale will be my 2023 GOTY:

Immortals of Aveum. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but they just released a huge patch adding in a New Game Plus mode with some new end game activities and more importantly for the hesitant there's a demo available now that lets you play the first 3 chapters (of a total of 18 chapters) and will run you 90 minute to 2 hours and give you a sense of if you want to drop money into it. I'll save a lot of what I want to say about the game for a GOTY writeup and conversations but if you enjoy metroid-vania's, third person action adventures, third person shooters, good to great writing, a genuinely good to great plot and story, and a deep, lore filled, and interesting world of magic, Immortals has you covered. I bought it full price to support the devs after they released into the gulf following BG3 and had 45% of their team laid off but I really hope the studio gets a chance to make more games because Immortals is special and I hope at least a few people check out the demo!

Bought Skyrim again, this time for the switch.

Man I totally missed this, and no one picked up the slack lol

Free on Epic: Jitsu Squad and Mighty Fight Federation
Free on Twitch/Amazon Prime: Caverns of Mars Recharged and Orten was the Case

Shows as $489.99 for me.

I got mine for $350. I guess we'll see if they honor that price now, supposed to arrive tomorrow.

LOL, I have a series S and a PS5 and didn't see any real reason to get an X but at that price. *shrug*

Amazon had it at that price too for awhile this morning. These went to that price last night at Walmart (the D IV version plus a regular).

If I hadn't bought a Steam Deck a couple of months ago and wasn't in the process of building a PC, I'd have bought one myself.

Still showing as $349.99 for me atm.
