Video Game Deals Catch-All

For those who hope to buy a Steam Deck, don’t spend your bucks on Epic. Now that I have a Steam Deck I have repurchased several games I bought on Epic. On you go Deck you will never want to go back to Epic for purchases.

Unless, perhaps, you have a desktop or laptop setup that you love, use and enjoy. SD ownership does not equal Epic abandonment.

You are not alone.

I have repurchased several games I bought on ______ and then on ______ and then on ______ etc... (Talking to you, Dragon's Dogma.)

Isn't the deck able to run the epic games store? I thought that it could run gamepass games too.

How to easily install the Epic Games Launcher on a Steam Deck

Sadly, I'm unable to verify that this works.

Good point. Haven’t tried that yet. What I will say though, is the UI is so elegant for the Deck that I haven’t yet been tempted to run Epic. I am interested in Gamepass. I do wonder if the almost daily-a good thing-patches to Steam OS make it a constant catch-up-game in running Epic or Gamepass. Anyone know?

While I don't have a deck yet (Q3), I do run Garuda Linux. Steam games via Steam, Epic and GOG via Heroic Launcher, Ubisoft Connect and Origin and countless emulators via Lutris (which can also do Epic and GOG). Once games are installed, you can even then add to Steam as a non-steam game just like in Windows, which will make use of Steam's Proton.

The only struggle I have yet to overcome is smaller things like the Rockstar Launcher, and the now-dead Bethesda Launcher.

I'm not going to pretend it's a buttery smooth experience compared to just having it on Steam, but if the game is free, an amazing discount (like when Epic had £10 repeating vouchers), or is exclusive to something other than Steam, don't completely write it off. If all things are equal, or at least close, I will still prefer a game on the Steam platform.

GamePass only works as the cloud version, via Microsoft's Edge for Linux browser. I hope this will change, but haven't seen anything concrete. If Value and MS strike a deal to integrate GamePass with Steam, we'll no doubt be on to a winner.

I click on the icon of the game I want to play and it starts.

That's nice.

As part of their Legendary Sale, Ubisoft have £10 off £15+ spend (no doubt regional pricing is equivalent) with code LEGEND22.

This can bring things like Anno 1800 down to £6.50, AssCreed Valhalla for £10.

Lots of indie games on-sale for Indie Live Expo 2022 through Steam until next Saturday.

There's also a puzzle game showcase on Steam until Monday. Lots of really good games for cheap. I posted a thread in our puzzle game Discord channel with some recommendations.

I did get Overwatch running on Steam Deck today. Overall, thanks to YouTube, pretty easy and I can launch from the same menu with my installed games.

Racing games sale on Steam! Wreckfest is only $12 and there's a lot of other good stuff.

Hmm...any racing games recommended with good VR support? I've played Project Cars 2 but that's it. It's good but I'd be interested in any other recommendations.

Have you heard of Race Room? Some dorks like it. Assetto Corsa also says it has support, and you can pick it up for cheap right now as part of the Racing Fest.

Dirt Rally 2 is fantastic in VR. Keep in mind rallying is generally more challenging than road racing.

Automobilista 2 is great in VR. It is made on the same engine as Project Cars 2 but it's a more serious simulator.

Assetto Corsa is pretty old at this point, but if you're willing to spend a little time installing mods, it can look fantastic.

RaceRoom currently has all the content unlocked until May 30 but after that you'll need to buy DLC in their own store or be stuck with the little free content they have.

That said, I've never played all of the above on a controller, only on a wheel. If you're on a controller, I'd do some research to see if people feel like they're worth it. I imagine Dirt Rally 2 may be the best bet on a controller.

On a slightly different type of game, Redout has VR (although Redout II is about to come out!).

If anyone wants to jump on the racing games sale and get a wheel, the Logitech G29 is on sale for $229 on Amazon.

AssCreed Odyssey for $5 got me to open up UPlay.

Yesterday I bought the Witcher 2 for the Xbox One for 2.99. It regularly goes to that cheap but I wanted to give folks a heads up because for less than lunch costs it is a great game to try.

Thanks! I have an older Logitech MOMO FF racing wheel that still mostly works. I had a weird issue in Project Cars 2 where I had to turn the wheel about 10 degrees off-center to match what the game wanted to use as a "center position". Could never figure that out. I'll check out the two you mentioned up top.

I think you meant to say June 2.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm getting an error when I try to add it, but I'll keep trying.

Also Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2, which is one of the best bits of DLC ever released for any game.

Technically, all of the best lighthouses in videogame history.

Epic Games has Wolfenstein: The New Order as a freebie. Just started playing this a couple weeks ago... fantastic so far. Definitely worth the $0 dollars.

Far Cry 4 appears to be free via Amazon Prime Gaming.
