Video Game Deals Catch-All

To be fair, Twitch gives out some really sh*tty games, most of which I've never heard of before.

how true! I've seen many posts on the games that are free and I cannot recall hearing of any of them. Doesn't make me want to go down that route, I've enough games in the pile I've heard of and paid for that I cannot get motivated to play.

But the Epic thing seems to boil down to whether you want multiple clients or not. Many people were highly suspicious of Steam for a long time as it was a brand new concept but there cannot be many gamers who do not have a steam account now. I have got, and use, 7 clients, but cannot recall any sort of a problem across any of them.

Oh I've thought of one, Uplay made me start a new account years ago so I have 2, one with 3 games and the newer one with about 50. They won't transfer the games over.
Not a big issue for me.

Donut County is half off on the switch eshop. Picked it up and have been having fun—$6.50 well spent for me.

It looks like Humble is perhaps suffering from all the free games being given away!

They are currently offerening a 40% discount on their Humble Choice Premium subscription.
There are a couple of caveats 1. You will lose the discount if you pause the subscription 2. You must be a first time subscriber.

Still, it seems a decent deal if you like to try some games out that you may have missed or like this months bundle and can cancel next month.

Final Fantasy XIV is free on PSN right now. It’s the base game, and comes with 30 days of playtime.

Hm. I am tempted by FF XIV. I mean, at free, of course I'm going to download it, but whether I actually spend time with it is the main question. I had heard two things over the last several months about this: 1)it is at some point coming to Xbox 2)they are planning some sort of revised introduction or streamlining of the Realm Reborn stuff to get new players closer to the current content. Are both of those correct, and is there any more info on either?

Xbox is my preferred platform right now, and I hesitate to spend much time on a very grindy game if in, say, October, there will be a much better way to get into the game, so I don't know if now is the time to try this game. But...I'll probably at least create a character and poke around for a few minutes.

Looks like I can't get the free month, since I bought it years ago

In July or August, with the next major patch, they’re streamlining the base game, by removing some of the grindier quests and reworking some others. I think they said around 13% of the quests are being removed. It’s not a full change like WoW’s Cataclysm expansion or anything like that. Just a bunch of nips and tucks here and there. They’re also adding flying to the base game zones that becomes available after finishing the original base game story.

Nothing’s been announced for Xbox. They’ve said they’d love to have it on the platform, and they’ve had talks (whatever that means) but nothing has come from it so far. I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon, barring an out-of-nowhere announcement that can’t be predicted.

I always find the flying mounts annoying. You basically have to clear the entire zone first, which doesn't strike me as a benefit at that point... I rarely go back to an area after clearing it.

FATEs, hunts, gathering, job quests, beast tribes, and other side quests all can take you back to prior zones, so it pays to unlock flying for the expansion zones once you’re caught up in the main quest.

They’ve said that base game zones won’t require anything for flying except completing the original 2.0 story. So if you’ve already hit the expansions, you’ll automatically get flying in those zones.

Thanks, beanman. I feel like a few months back, when they announced that big lineup of Final Fantasy titles coming to Game Pass, there was a blip where there was an accidental announcement of FF XIV coming to Xbox, and when that got corrected there was some kind of vague statement like you suggest about how they'd love to see it get there, which I inferred as suggesting they're totally planning to bring it to Xbox and are maybe just waiting to coordinate it with some event? But that's obviously me extrapolating quite a bit.

There wasn't an accidental announcement that I recall, just some poor phrasing and fan enthusiasm. In the stream making the announcement, someone said "all" the Final Fantasy games since VII were being released on Xbox. The logo for XIV wasn't shown, and it wasn't specifically mentioned, but some people got really excited about it and thought XIV was coming.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it at some point, but I wouldn't count on it.

Interkosmos is free on steam. It is a VR game so you need VR gear for it.

Oops.. wrong thread.

Aegis Defenders is free on steam.

Gamestop actually doing a Buy 2 Get 1 sale. Most of the newest games are not included as a new copy, things like Link's Awakening or Luigi's Mansion 3. But the used versions are.

Surprisingly Persona 5 Royal launch edition was included. Very tempting if I could find 2 more $50 games.

Or also if Gamestop didn't suck. Maybe I'd do better to price match the $50 sale elsewhere on just that game.

Cities Skylines + most Primary DLC - $18

Looks like it includes all the major DLCs minus After Dark and Sunset Harbor.

Persona 5 is $8 on PSN

That doesn't appear to be the Royal edition, FYI. They made a bunch of changes with Royal.

The new batch of Twitch Prime games is up:
Art of Fighting 2
Blazing Star
Fatal Fury Special
The King of Fighters 2000
The King of Fighters 2002
Pulsar
Samurai Shodown II

GOG's big summer sale started today, but the one that really caught me is Fallout New Vegas Ultimate with all DLC is up for $5.99

Just Cause 3 or Metro Exidus? I enjoyed Metro 1 more than 2 so I am not sure if 3 will be my jam.

I enjoyed Just Cause 3, it's very similar to 2. Just be sure to pick up the DLC as the improved flight-suit rocks.

Metro Exodus was my favorite of the 3. I'm not a fan of Just Cause at all.

The Epic giveaway of Borderlands The Handsome Collection is now live.

I suppose I can't complain about free, but didn't Epic already do this one?
Maybe that was just PS Plus.

PS Plus. Between the B1, B2, Pre-sequel, and B3 that I bought myself and then all the free giveaways, including DLC and special editions, I have about 87 copies of Borderlands across PS4 and PC now.

I picked up free Civ and used the £10 voucher for a very cheap copy of Control.

Thanks! I've always wanted to play this game. I really wish there was a modern remake of Ultima Underworld.
