Video Game Deals Catch-All

Never tried a Farming Simulator game, but after hearing other people gush about them (DoubtingThomas?), I'll at least give this one a shot!

Yakuza 0 is $6.79 on steam.

On a different note the newest Yakuza looks insane and you can play as ladies now.

I reckon I'll pick it up, and possibly even install it (which is more than I've done with half of the EGS freebies!). I'm not in the target audience and I have no idea how such games work, but I am curious - what the appeal is, what kind of itch they scratch, etc.

Mostly this.

I hoover up all the freebies, even for games I already own on other platforms, as a hedge against, say, Valve going out of business

Likewise for games I'm not planning on playing, cos who knows, maybe I'll change my mind, or maybe they'll open up a Family Sharing kind of scheme at a later date so I can share them with me peeps.

And there's certainly a class of games, Farming Sim being a good example, that I'm never going to buy , but if a copy turns up, I might just boot it up to see what all the hoo-haa is about.

Check out Daggerwin’s YouTube channel; he gives a good show explaining the Farming Simulator games, and more importantly, what the heck all those large green and yellow machines on a farm are actually used for. I felt like it was a rather educational and enjoyable experience.

The Bridge is free on epic. Never played it but looks like a puzzle game.

And next week is ... Farming Simulator 19? First one I'll be skipping purposefully.

What's wrong with Farming Simulator 19?

Well it's not for me. And once I read halfwaywrong's response I started to type up a response about how it's nice there's enough interest in gaming that things I can't wrap my head around can exist and be successful. But I couldn't adequately form my statement and had to go do something else so I left it alone.

Oh, I thought there was some particular issue with it compared to the previous games. Like maybe outrage that the developers were being money-grubbing because of a new edition, or that they added in microtransactions, or any number of other things we tend to like to complain about in games!

Farming Simulator is a very relaxing game and if anyone liked Stardew Valley, give it a try. You can get through most of it without really farming(you can hire helpers) and it mostly becomes a management game at that point. But even then sometimes it's nice after a long day to sit back and drive back and force on a square of land in a tractor.

I have Farming Simulator on the Switch and it's fun to be able to drive around on a tractor and do different things. Having never grown up on a farm, driving a real tractor is somewhere on my bucket list, and now that I'm spending some time in very rural areas as part of my work, perhaps that desire may become reality someday. Even so, when I drive past some farms, I can recognize some of the equipment and have some idea what people mean when they use terms that I learned in Farming Simulator.

They changed the tractor bikini to a one-piece, and I'm pissed!

Well, the International Farming Olympic Committee hasn't banned hydrophobic LZR suits yet. So, at least we can still go fast!

Hydrophobic suits? Awesome. I always wanted my clothes to have rabies.

It was a reference to the technologically advanced swimsuits worn by Michael Phelps and the rest of the US Olympic Swimteam that was subsequentially banned by the Internation Olympic Committee...

I know. I was riffing. Well, trying to. I think riffing requires that you be funny, which I am not.

All of you people are bashing Farming Simulator, but holy carp, I saw people playing it in October at the Paris Games Week as an eSport, of all things, and my mind was blown.

My only bash on it is that it's a weird niche game that most people are going to struggle to enjoy. Which is a feature, not a bug, really.

Holy crap you guys all the Kohan games for $3.

Has anyone seen or heard of any discounts for Escape From Tarkov?

!

I hope they hold up because I had just enough in my steam wallet for that...

I would say you're wittily insightful.

LOL, Farm Sim sucks, y'all.

Anyway, Steam is having a storewide Lunar New Year sale. The hidden gem I'd like to point out is Pikuniku at $0.99 (-92%).

A super-colorful & cute platform-adventure that involves a subversive story of revolution with strange characters. The selling point is the creative writing.

Note: If you're an Amazon Prime member and make the effort to grab your free games every month, there's a good chance you already have the game.

You mean Twitch Prime? I haven't looked at that list in a while...

Thanks for that! I was tempted but you're right, there it is among the dozens of other games they've thrown at me. I need some kind of master list I can consult.
Edit: Seriously. Doing a quick count there are at least 145 games listed in my Twitch client.

Kohan: Ahriman's Gift is THE BEST

My master list is Playnite. GoG Galaxy 2.0 is also now in open beta, but it missed a couple Game Pass PC games, so I'm sticking with Playnite for now. While GoG auto-adds Game Pass games, there's no manual add, and it missed Darksiders 3 right when I was starting out with the game, and there's no way to import / edit time played on games, while Playnite has manual game adding, time import, and editing, among other things.

Kohan: Ahriman's Gift is THE BEST

It IS.

Worth it to play Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns first ?

Nah you can skip it.

I’ve got enough points for a $5 coupon, but I’m not exactly sure what to spend it on. Any suggestions? I could just try and find a DLC for something I have. From what I wrote below it doesn’t sound like I want them very much, but I’ve been thinking about reasons not to chose these. Things I’m considering (not in any order). Feel free to recommend something off the list too even though you don’t necessarily know what I have already.

Unity of Command 2: I loved the first, but I’m inclined to wait until it is on sale more. Gotta stretch the gaming dollar.
Wildermyth: I usually don’t go for early access but I occasionally make exceptions. Someone told me to wait until it is finished as while it is good, there isn’t a huge reason to play it now. I’m inclined to agree with that.
Hades: Sounds pretty great, but again - early access.
Supraland: I played the demo and liked it. This just feels like it is about ready to hit the Humble Choice as it has been heavily discounted lately. Also, I still need to finish Mario Super Odyssey.
Through the Ages New Leaders and Wonders: I think it’s a great game even though it’s been a while since I played it. New content could be good.
The Colonists: Looks pretty good as long as there is some type of challenge to it. I do have several builders in the queue to play - not sure if this is better than these: Mindustry, Frostpunk, Surviving Mars, Factorio
Thea 2: The Shattering: I liked the first one enough. I’m not sure if this one sounds like an improvement or not based on what I read. I do have some 4Xs in the queue too: Deity Empires, Eador. Imperium, Alliance of the Sacred Suns

Clicking the Steam link to see what these Kohan games are on my work PC where I'm not logged in to Steam led me to my latest thing that makes me feel depressingly old: hastily selecting a fake date of birth to get past an age gate and realizing the acceptable fake age I gave is like 10+ years younger than I actually am. It seems it was only yesterday I was using dialup and claiming to have been born in the '60s...

I saw this on reddit, and even in my mid-30's I've felt like this before... "You know you’re old anytime you’re entering your DOB with a smartphone you get to the year and you have to spin that Female Doggo like you’re on Wheel of Fortune."
