A few of the games aren't discounted at all. You'd think Valve would understand the concept of a "sale" by now, wouldn't you?

Sale, you know, For Sale. They're selling the games, so the game is technically.... up for... sale... I dunno man!

If you think of Steam as that carpet store next to the mechanic shop that's having a permanent GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE then it makes sense.

I fully endorse this message

The only time I'll pay more than $20-25 for a PC game is if it's something that I'm really anticipating (see: Mass Effect: Andromeda) or if it's a title that I know I'm going to get dozens if not 100+ hours of game time out of (see: Civ VI).

Including precisely zero of the games I nominated!

Not that I'm surprised.

Edit: Maybe we should make the thread the "Classic Games of the Month Club". I'd nominate Stonekeep for the next game to play through.

+1 to this idea!

For sale and On sale mean different things in this context. Why bother grouping the games in a special "sale" event if they're only "for sale."

Adopting this terminology, then Valve has no impetus to discount anything during the various seasonal sales because, you know, they're always for sale.

But if you really want to get your pedant on, let's talk about the grammatical abomination that is the "but one get one" or BOGO event. Buy one, get one is the definition of a transaction. When people say "BOGO" they really mean "BOGOF," or "Buy One Get One Free," but by dropping the last word from the phrase they render it impossible to make an etymological distinction between a two-for-one sale and a simple purchase. If we cared to disambiguate, the BOGO should more accurately be called BOGT, for buy one get two, but this does not translate to shorthand well. Pronouncing "BOGT" is a trick and a half for speakers of Germanic languages, but that, in my opinion, is no excuse for deliberately sowing confusion when it comes to limited-time pricing schemes.

And now for the part when everyone tries to figure out if I just invoked Poe's law.

We'll always have the German Inquisition.

It's you. I always assume you're deadly serious.

Since it's free. Anyone interested in a group playthrough of Neverwinter Nights? Maybe once a week for a few hours. I never got around to beating the campaign and would love to play it with others.

I'm interested as well. That sounds like a lot of fun.

If your position is that English as a language makes no sense, and is still regularly abused by its speakers, then I don't think you're outrageous enough for Poe's Law to apply.

Neverwinter Nights was pretty disappointing to me, but I was kind of expecting balder's gate from it. Which wasn't really fair. Neverwinter Nights 2 was pretty cool. Really liked some of the allies in that game. Specially the tiefling girl.

Never did try multiplayer in it. Does it make it better?

I'd be interested, have not played it before so I'll have to start figuring it out.

Sort of a deal: Titanfall 2's free weekend starts today (Friday)!

Come try out this fantastic game! I didn't play the first game, but I am completely hooked on this one!

Is that specific to certain platforms? All I see is 30% off on Origin.

Kurrelgyre wrote:

There is a post on Origin towards the bottom about a free Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Test this weekend for it.

Edit - And just looked, not seeing a download or pre-load option for it... Bummer, was hoping to download it while I was work to play tonight.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have copies of New Super Mario Bros for Wii, or Kirbys Epic Yarn? They're $30-40 online. Or any other Wii games good for young kids to mess around with?

I'm starting to think about games more for my young kids than for myself. My almost 4 year old loves watching stuff, so I thought it'd be a good time to start showing him some games.

Edit:
I'll also ask, does anyone have copies of Wii Sports or Sports Resort they'd want to part with? I had a Wii originally, then sold it, then got another one without the Sports games. And new copies are no longer that cheap these days.

Double edit:
Whoops. Sorry about that. I'm losing it. Meant to post this on the trading thread, not the deals one.

Okay, with so many people interested in that NWN co-op playthrough, let's create another thread for it.

Here's a link to the thread. I made it generic so that if the group enjoys playing it, we can continue with other co-op games.

The Humble Bundle Monthly Gamble early unlock for January is

Warhammer: The End Times
Vermintide
+ DLC

Was always curious about getting the game before, and now i have it, go figure.

Can you explain how that works? I've ordered from Humble before, but not the Gamble. Vermintide looks great, but is it a good price?

You can sign up for the monthly gamble and they release one game a little earlier (usually the headliner). Then the month comes and all games are opened up. You can then cancel or stay a subscriber for the next month. Cancelling is very easy, you just click a button on their website, so you can subscribe for a month if you want the headliner game and then the other games are just a bonus.

I don't know if that is a good price or not, but I have heard good things about Vermintide.

You pay $12, and you get the early unlock game immediately, and then on the first Friday of the month, the rest of the bundle games are unlocked and a new bundle cycle begins.

If you just want a month and want to stop the subscription to the monthly bundle, you have to cancel your subscription to the monthly bundle before the next billing cycle happens for the next month bundle, which occurs typically between Wednesday and Saturday of the third week of the month. You keep all the games you already got (each bundle is at least 6 steam key games with 1 exclusive (non steam) game you can only get though the bundle.

As for price, I believe the lowest Vermintide has ever gone is $15 dollars before, so for this, you'll get Vermintide, DLC for it and 5 other steam games. I call it a gamble since you never know what the other games are ahead of time. But you can go and looked at what games have been part of bundles previously here,

As for how well you may enjoy each game, YMWV on the kind of gamer you are and the type of games you like.

Thank you! It already looks like a great deal, even accounting for how low Vermintide will be during the winter sale. The rest of the Bundle could be trash or not, I suppose, but that's part of the....gamble.

Thanks!

I think Vermintide looks very interesting; I might jump on it if it hits $10 on XB1.

It's pretty fun. It's L4D though so if that isn't your thing, maybe don't even go in at $10.
