SOMA - Sci-fi Horror from Frictional

After more than two weeks of teasing, we are happy to properly announce our new game: SOMA. It is a sci-fi horror game played from a first person perspective with the goal to deliver a truly disturbing experience. Having worked on this project for over three years now, it is really nice to finally reveal it to the world!

I watched the live action videos the other day and the gameplay trailer just now. I can't wait! I got my fill of Dead Space with Dead Space 2. This is a much more interesting direction to take space horror.

Can't wait to see more of this. Just hope they make the narrative in the game live up to the terrorific live action teasers.

There's a new trailer and a blog post with updates. (It's a PS4 blog but the game is on PC also.)

How's this for a quote...

Finally, the game should be utterly terrifying. We do not want you to calmly stroll through the various environments; it must be emotionally tasking to progress. We want this blanket of oppression and fear wrapped around the entire experience.

So, apparently there has been an ARG going on that has been cracked to reveal...A GAMEPLAY TRAILER AND RELEASE DATE!

September 22nd, PC and PS4.

FYI, this is set in a deep sea base. Sounds immersive.

Well, that looks amazing as hoped! I am definitely going to go PS4 on this one so I can play it in the living room. My inability to finish Alien Resurrection on PC as of now has taught me one thing. Should be easier to fire up a scary game when I'm not at my desk.

Edit: I'm so glad this is an underwater station setting versus space. It gives it a unique and more realistic spin. I'm a huge fan of diving, fish, and marine biology in general, so this game seems to be tailor made for me.

I totally forgot this game existed.

Looks super cool but Oh... the voice acting.... yikes.

If the achievements work the way I think they do, I'm a littel over two thirds of the way in about now, and I really dig SOMA.

It has fewer overt scares than Amnesia, but it's so much smarter, and the ideas and dilemmas it presents are genuinely disturbing.

Completed it. What I said before still holds, plus it really sticks the landing. Really recommended if you like this sort of thing.
