Discussion of GTA Online was beginning to overwhelm the GTA V thread, so here's a new one just for GTA Online, as it seems to be a bit of a different beast.

Top tips
- Back button on xBox accesses the Quick Interaction menu, which allows a number of things including passive mode, request a new personal vehicle, change voice chat options and Quick GPS to your nearest gun store, clothes shop or objective.
- Down on the D-Pad once shows all players on your server. Down twice zooms your mini-map out.

I'll edit the top post with more stuff as users find it.

Finally was able to get in last night past the tutorial section. Almost immediately I was run over and killed by another player, I had to laugh. The pubbies I was with seemed mostly predatory, but it was still fun, having a driving gun battle, cops involved - typical GTA madness but with other players in the mix it was just extra ridiculous and fun.

So jealous! Just can't get past that race bottleneck.

When robbing stores, I always try to find ones without any NPC pedestrians loitering outside. More than once, those bystanders have turned into wannabe vigilantes and pulled guns on me when I commenced with the stick-up. Then of course the shopkeeper pulls out his shotgun as well, so I get flanked and killed in short order.

Brizahd have you tried to wait it out? I got through it after just letting the load screen sit for 20 minutes and doing something else in the meantime.

How much of the player base is real life versions of Jimmy De Santa? Food for thought!

Is it ''fixed''?
Or still not better than yesterday?

Oh I will try that! My record was only 5 minutes before retrying.

My tactic was to force out of the game, and restart several times in a row to get past the race loadscreen. I let it idle for 30 minutes in the background once, and nothing happened.

It's more stable. It's still getting crushed by load and glitching a lot. If you want a totally smooth experience, I'd give it another couple of days. Re-downloading the update is fixing issues for some people, apparently.

So that's the second time I've been given this advice. Nice to know. I was previously rebooting after the timer went over the two minute mark.

BTW, I'm waiting for the session to launch as I type this. The timer is at 24 minutes, and counting. I think I'll wash a few dishes while I wait. Then maybe Shadowrun on the iPad. Or guitar.

The tactic that ended up working for me was going into a solo session until I passed the race. I only ended up racing against Lamar, but I got past the race.

Then i'm not even gonne try it today. It makes me hate the game without even playing it:)

How would I go about doing that on Xbox?

So when is this game supposed to come out for the PC? This online component sounds intriguing.

How did you force it into a solo session? I'm dieing to get past this stupid bottleneck issue.

I think if you hit the Home button, then go into Settings > Console > Storage, something like that? If you select GTA V, there should be a title update file you can delete. It should then prompt you to re-download when you fire up the game.

I've set up a crew for people that don't like microtransactions. Mainly UK, but all welcome.

Remember, gaming is all about PNIS. Playability, Not Instant Success.

If you let it load into story mode you can hit start and right button to the gta online tab. Hit a and you should be able to choose the modes like solo, crew, invite and regular online mode.

*double post* so I made a chick with the cowboy from red dead as her dad. She looks pretty homely.

Just a minor detail: "cross-platform multiplayer" means something different than what you intended, Dave. But thanks for the thread!

Took me a while to realize that I was dropping cash when I died because I wasn't depositing it- is there a tool tip I missed? I don't remember anything pointing this out.

I tried to jump in last night but about 10 minutes into the boring joining session screen I gave up (it was late anyway). They should have included the GTA4 style pregame chaos lobby in this one.

I came here looking for an official GWJ crew for the 360. Is it full or did I miss it?

You can send a PM to TheHipGamer and ask him for an invite. All he needs is your socialclub name. The crew tag is '4GWJ'. You can search for it and request an invite, as well.

From Story Mode, hit the start button (where you would change settings, etc) and go to the online tab. When you go to start an online session you'll have a few options (I'm not in front of my PS3 so I can't tell you exactly what they'd be) and one of those will be "solo session."

However, today I was able to get in and play quite a bit the normal way. Stability and performance were immensely improved.

Yeah - you need to either run to an ATM real quick (you can set a way point to one quickly using the back button menu) or you can deposit using your phone by visiting the Maze Bank website.

Yeah, I figured it out on my own, I was just wondering if I had missed a tutorial or tooltip where they explain it.

I wonder how long it'll take before R*'s "bad sport" algorithm's start weeding out and segregating the players who do nothing but camp stores and mission locations.

So I finally got in yay! Couple of missions after the race you're told to go buy clothes. Just a heads up that you should go into passive mode cause I got gunned down while browsing. It was awesome! Actually died a bunch. People seem to camp the ammunation so I ran out of ammo.

My character disappeared and I had to create a new one. I didn't mind cause I was actually racing Lamar and getting into the online game finally! Well the people I was online with had some pretty coordinated guys flying around in a chopper sniping people. So I left and went to a solo session. Oddly my new character was replaced with my old one. I had all the guns and rank but lost the clothes that I had bought? Weird eh?

Anyway the game ran pretty smooth. If you all see me on I'll be playing in a crew only mode while I rank up and unlock some stuff. Feel free to join.

brizahdwizahd is my gamertag on xbox.

No idea but it was a blast still! Honestly I expect the worst out of everyone in this game. There was a moment where I was running around the airport looking for a plane and I noticed someone stalking me. We were on opposite sides outside the gates, me trying to get in and them trying to get to me. Never actually ran into them though. I think they must've also gotten killed by the group in the helicopter that got me. Never did find a plane I could fly...
