Xbox One Catch-all

When I have that problem power cycling the hard drive (mine is not power by the Xbox) usually fixes it. Really wish the Xbox would give some kind of notice when the external hard drive is not accessible.

Holy sh*t, I won this contest.

Nice! Enjoy your headset.

Games with Gold for January:

  • Celeste (XBO)
  • WRC 6 (XBO)
  • Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (360)
  • Far Cry 2 (360)

Eh...nothing I will rush to install tonight.

If you did you would have to pay for them

I already own both 360 games, but was thinking about checking out Celeste.

I didn't stick to Celeste, but I think it's absolutely worth downloading and trying.

I'm tempted to try Celeste here as I think it may have been the Switch controls that didn't work for me.

Awesome, I've had Celeste on my watch list since it launched.

Ok so the big year end sale is live now and there are over 500 things on the list. It is kind of sad the the best place to view this stuff is on the blog of a guy who works there and not the official website or store interface on the console.

Welcome to every online except maybe steam.

The last few big games I have purchased have all been digital. Am I a convert to the all digital future? It really is easier.

One of us, one of us...

Bought a year of gamepass for $70 at Amazon.

I was a pretty big skeptic of the program. I just didn't seem like it was for me. I like owning things permanently. At the beginning, most of the the things on there I already owned or wasn't interested in.

But, with Horizon 4 (+expansion) and Crackdown 3 just around the corner and a bunch of interesting new indie games, it suddenly flipped from something I had no interest in to sounding like an incredibly good deal.

Super pleased with it so far. Even though it's not free, it feels like getting a bunch of stuff for free.

I has also likely saved me a ton of money in this year's Christmas sale. I'm looking at things and saying, "Well, I want to play this, but do I want to play this sooner than I want to play this huge pile of stuff I already have through Game Pass? Nah."

So, as the new owner of an Xbox One X, are there any particularly impressive One X-Enhanced games I should check out?

Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be my first test. I've heard RDR2 is great, but am just finishing that up on PS4. I'm planning to look through the rest of my library and Game Pass options for other enhanced games to see what this thing can do. I recall hearing people were very impressed with the way backwards compatible games were enhanced, which seems strange to me--how much better can those games look?--but I will investigate.

I'm pretty sure most, if not all, the Microsoft AAA titles got the enhanced treatment. Also the original Red Dead did as well. I'm kind of curious to see what that looks like after playing RDR2.

It may not be in your wheelhouse, but I was really impressed with the enhancements made to the Xbox 360 versions of the Final Fantasy 13 trilogy. They don't magically look like current generation games, but they look so much better than they did on the 360. I owned them on PC, too, and it was a hassle to get them to run smoothly at higher resolutions, but they look and play great on the One X without any tinkering.

I keep hoping they'll do that for NieR. I'd love to get an X and a 360 copy of NieR and go through that whole thing again.

Oh! I'd love that!

I think I own two physical games this generation: Lego Marvel for XB1 and Zelda BotW for Switch. I started going digital last gen.

As a bonus, it's much, much easier for the kids to pick a digital game than mess with discs or tiny Switch games.

Once my Gamer's Club unlocked runs out next November, I'll probably go all digital.

Odd. Seems they have started doing "reruns" for the 360 games as the Guardian of Light was a Games with Gold for January 2014.

Congrats! My kids and I love the 1X, here's a list, but I dunno how often it's updated:
LIST
I will say, if you ever liked Ninja Gaiden Black it's awesome on the 1X. Great combat, decent story, lengthy missions.

Redeemed my two year Game Pass code finally. I queued up about 20 games. Lots of stuff that I kind of wanted to try but not enough to pay for even on sale (Cities Skylines for instance). There goes my hard drive space and bandwidth cap

Do we know how long the current $100 off of the XB1X sale will last?

I believe it ends today, Dec. 25.

I'm not sure who else prefers mouse/keyboard, but here's a list of current and upcoming games that allow m/k. I'm much more likely to play Vermintide 2 now.

I'll be more interested once someone figures out how to make m&k not be hellaciously awkward on a couch. I don't play console games at a desk.

I love the Sofia +Sam memory foam lap desk. Even has a little led light that hovers over the keyboard.
