Yes, but that doesn't answer my question of viability You can do something doesn't mean doing it will work well!!

It would be strange for someone to recommend/offer advice for something that they didn't know worked.

Just don't plug your external hard drive into a USB 2 hub or you will get slower game loading!

You make a good point!

So there are well-loved games on sale until tomorrow and likely to be in the holiday-infested near future. But they will also be near the same price on Steam, so here's the question: which of these plays better on XBox than on PC?

Witcher 3 $20
Dark Souls 2 $10
Prey/Dishonored 2 $26
Mass Effect: Andromeda $10
Wolfenstein: New Order $10

Looooved Wolfenstein on Xbox.

I would play Dark Souls 2 with a controller regardless. I have played through most of the base game on XB1 and it was good there.

I would really like to get a cheap copy of The Witcher 3 but I can't see myself playing it anytime soon. Gotta resist and remember it'll be just a cheap later, possibly cheaper, or possibly even free on GWG.

$20 for the complete version of Witcher 3 is the lowest I've ever seen it go, on PC or console, for years. Maybe you'll see it for less eventually, but that's a solid deal.

It hits that pretty often. That is a great deal for 100+ hours of amazing content. W3 is the best game ever and the dlcs were outstanding.

I'd probably get it if CDPR weren't currently on my Naughty List. At least they finally fired the awful social media manager from GOG, but it took him tweeting out hate group hashtags to make it happen.

That is a very fair point. That jackass needed to GO.

The "Black Friday game sale" is ending today. I assume there will be more sales on Black Friday itself and obviously later in December, yes?

I think all that's ending is the early access for Gold subscribers.

Since I have Gamepass I feel like it might be foolish to buy games when they’re on sale. They might as well put “Coming soon to Gamepass” in the description page.

I bought just three games: Little Nightmares, Titan Quest, and Dungeon Siege III. I assume the first two will come to Game Pass at some point, but I wanted to play them now instead of later.

But Game Pass definitely factored into my decision not to buy a few games. Sorry, Skyrim, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Wolfenstein 2. You all seem likely to show up on my subscription before I would get around to playing you.

I picked up:

XL upgrade for Mortal Kombat
For Honor
GTA V
Battlechasers
Ultra SF4 (360)

I passed on a lot of stuff I expect will eventually hit Gold or Game Pass.

What exactly is GamePass? Is that a subscription service? Over and above Gold?

Yes. It's $10/month and gives you full access to over 100 games, including all new Microsoft games at release. The initial catalog was meh, but they have been adding to it at a good pace and have put some strong titles on there.

Think of it as Netflix for games. You don't fully own the games, and they could be taken out of the lineup (this has happened once or twice, I think) but it's a great service for sampling a lot of older games that you may have been curious about but didn't want to spend $ on.

Here's the homepage.

BTW, following discussion a page or two back, after being unable to make the 50% off for 6 months of Game Pass show up for me using Xbox's twitter links and other resources on the web, I noticed the deal just sitting on my Xbox dashboard this morning, so $30 later I have Game Pass until July now. Yay, not sure why this deal has been so hard to nail down.

They’re hoping you give up and pay full price.

I saw that on my dash and tried to get it for my son, it would only go in at full price. Weird.

Don’t pay full price for Game Pass. I’ve gotten several deals of order $20 for 3 months or less.

If you see one of those discounts pop up can you just click it and add time to your current subscription? Or do you have to let your membership lapse first?

Usually you're buying cards / codes from stores, so MS doesn't really care / know at what price they sold them to you. So, I just tack them onto the end of my current subscription.

An update on my LS35X headset: I've played Red Dead the last two nights, as well as some FH4, and watched a few hours of TV. Not a single drop in that time.

But to be clear, I sit pretty close to the console, and I had rearranged my consoles to give the 1X more creating room (which I was always planning to do anyway). I had a couple of drops the first night, although it over several hours of play, so it didn't bother me. But it does seem that the connection is more touchy than it should be. It makes me wonder if that was part of the reason for the delay, and if it can actually get better.

But they are working perfectly for me, and it's kind of nice to be totally free of wires, the sound is outstanding. FH4 is a great game to showcase the sound. For me, they are a 5/5, but YMMV.

I've had zero drops in games. I had several, 2 second drops watching Avengers Infinity War via the Amazon app. I was 6 feet from the screen but a reset seemed to fix it? Been having other issues here in November as the latest update rolls out, so who knows.

Still very pleased with the product and again, no issues during gaming.

I've only bought Diablo 3 so far, and I was waiting for it to go on sale.

Related: Overwatch on XB1 is free to play for a full week starting tomorrow. If you like it, it's $20 during this sale. I paid $60 a month ago and wouldn't trade the fun I had to get my $40 back. Like Rocket League, this is kind of an "evergreen" online game with a huge community and constant updates and events. I also don't see Blizzard games ever going to Gamepass.

The hero-shooter and objective-based gameplay gives this game a little bit of the same thrills as a Destiny raid, but anytime you want it with zero commitment. Surprisingly, I played it the last three nights and totally neglected RDR2.

Argh! I want to play Overwatch very badly....but it's not on Mac and I have a sucky PC. On the other hand, it *is* on XBox, but that's not my preferred way to FPS. Guess I'll try it out tomorrow and see how it goes. We have a Goodjer group already, don't we?

If there's any GWJer playing on Xbox besides me I'd love to know about it, but do add me! I play with my friend DT 03 pretty often, who may be the nicest and most helpful guy in the world. Occasionally we connect with a friend or two of his. I definitely need more Overwatch friends.

I got you, Fed. Just need to actually log in and play.

Overwatch is decent on console, I've been considering actually TRIPLE dipping to get it on Xbox in addition to PC and PS4..
