Xbox One Catch-all

Of course, we are just a few days away from Overwatch...

The sale is live.

Was State of Decay any less janky on Xbox One?

Powerstar Golf for $5 is tempting but are there only 4 courses??

Less janky? I don't know, as I didn't play the 360 version. I didn't really find any big issues with it (are you thinking frame rate or something?).

Powerstar Golf is fantastic. I never felt like the 4 courses were a hindrance at all. I wish it had done better and earned a more full featured sequel, though.

For as arcade as the the presentation is, the golf strategy is really great. The power-ups are very limited, so it adds to the strategy. While the game lacks any online play, it's about a million more times more social than EA's game. Not only can you easily play the ghosts of your friends, every hole has a series of Records to break. You get extra XP depending on if you set a personal best, beat out a friend, and the most if you set a World Record. You get records for longest drive, closest to the pin from approach, and longest putts on each hole. When you tee up, you see a little leaderboard with your friends and the world records you are shooting for. There is a even a line out on the course you hpe to roll your ball over to set the different records.

You get to choose from six golfers with different abilities, who each have their own power-ups. In addition, you get to choose from two caddies, that give you certain power-us. But depending on the cards you play, which earn from playing, you can only use each power up 2-6 times in a round. You can also upgrade to new equipment that have certain power-ups. And each golf is so different, it's like playing a new course. It's pretty cool.

The XP and points you earn come fast enough that you will never feel like buying a single pack for real money. I have no idea how they made any money selling packs, because they are completely unnecessary.

It is a flat out fantastic version of arcade golf.

Hmm, I think i will bite. Can you do 4 player local?

Four players can play Stroke Play, and two can do Match Play.

Interesting. I will bite (if I haven't already...can't remember, but I'll check to see when I'm next on XBO)

The best game I can think of to compare the 360 version to is Grand Theft Auto 3. It had framerate issues and weird clipping issues and physics glitches. I didn't play it much after the launch window so they have have patched it to fix some of that.

So my X Box One recently stopped turning my TV on and off with the console (since resolved), but it lead me down a little bit of a rabbit hole. I think I have found an undocumented feature of the Xbone; My Xbone turns my TV on and off without the kinect being powered on, and without an IR blaster. Every source I could find said that the only way the Xbone can control a TV is kinect/IRblaster because it does not support HDMI-CEC, yet here I am controlling TV power (no channel change or volume control ability) seemingly through the HDMI connection. has anyone else found HDMI-CEC-light on their xbone?

I thought it was known to have that feature.

Yea I think it has the HDMI-CEC features. It knew what my new TV was the second I plugged it in. I didn't have to select it like I did my older TV.

New titles recently added to the backward compatibility list include Jet Set Radio and Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Director's Cut.

I had forgotten how much fun Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was. I'm glad they made it backward compatible otherwise I may not have given it another play. Plays wonderfully on the Xbox One and if I remember correctly it loads quite a bit faster (though the last time I played it might have been prior to being able to install games to the 360 hard drive).

Have we gotten any native XBO games like this other than the Tomb Raider games? Linear 3rd person action platforming power fantasy type stuff?

It's slower, but I think Ryse fits that description. It's much better than the reception it got.

+100. Ryse was very good.

Agreed!

While it's not clear anyone would still be playing it, I found the multiplayer satisfying, as well.

Backward compatibility for multi-disc games is now possible. Hurry up with the ME2 and ME3 BC update please (and while we are at it a digital release for both would be nice).

It never seemed to catch on here, but Project Spark is dead. You can no longer download it, and all online services will shutdown on August 12. Microsoft is apparently offering Xbox or Microsoft store credit to anyone who bought a retail copy.

Yeah. I saw this coming the moment they announced that thing. Sorry to see it go though. A fun little thing for a select group of people.

I wanted to like it, but it just never did anything for me. Sad to see it go for those that were into it, though.

I was actually surprised it was still being supported when I saw the story that they were cutting support a few days ago.

Hey in other news they are freeing up some old Gametags that were registered on the original Xbox but never ported to 360.

Between Project Spark and Fable Legends, it's making me cautious to get excited about anything on Xbox One that isn't a AAA product and needs support.

In fairness, those were pretty niche/ambitious products that were pretty poorly received from their very inception.

Exactly. I just think the whole thing was poorly executed. The scope of the thing just didn't match the small fan base that it seemed to be geared for.

Looks like COD: Black Ops is being added to BC.

Nice! I have been wanting to try FIFA, and that'll be during the high point of soccer awesomeness for the summer.

Woot! Some poop waffle was sitting on the gamertag "ruhk" since the original Xbox and it looks like it was one of those made available today. Yoink!

Congrats! That's awesome!
