Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (No Spoilers Beyond What's Aired)

Actually, his first follow-up was "Not even Hulk could do that!", to which I responded "Dude, Hulk punched a space dragon in the face and made it stop."

I just saw a really long, involved writeup on "Who would win, Superman or the Hulk?", and per that author, Hulk's strength is essentially unlimited. If he gets angry enough, he can do some kind of kinetic stomp or something that can destroy a planet. He says it starts at 100 tons, but then just keeps going up the madder he gets.

I have no idea if the author is interpreting sources correctly, but you can read a supposedly definitive answer here.

(and, note, this is pretty much a "my imagination is bigger than your imagination" exercise, but still.)

I'm fairly certain that the Hulk wins in terms of strength and potential strength. However, Superman can last long enough for Banner's Hulk cells to burn out and for him to revert back to just a regular human. This was established when Peter Parker told Mary Jane exactly how he could, in fact, beat the Hulk.

Still can't take this conversation as it is at this point even a little bit seriously :P

My wife refuses to listen to me talk about anything related to my fantasy baseball and football teams, because it's not real sports. If I started this conversation, I think her head would explode.

And for the record, superhero movies get an almost automatic thumbs up from her when deciding what film to go see.

So... Tahiti...

Gonna be honest, the bit with Gun at the end of the episode was the most entertaining part of the show.

If that doesn't manage to pull me in, then I'm officially moving on.

Okay, that was enough to get me to keep watching.

It was certainly interesting, but I was trying to figure out if he was in the process of being cloned or being brought back to life. That coupled with some other small moments just kept pulling me out of the whole thing. The predictability of the bad torture guy being killed, for example.

I think the tone for the episode for me was set in the opening seconds. I sat down, ready to see where they'd take it, and the first thing you see is a giant flash-bang with SHIELD's logo on it (WHY DOES IT NEED TO BE BRANDED?!), flashing LEDs for no reason, and a bad "Is that a roomba?" joke from someone that should instead be thinking "HIT THE DECK!" I mean, these were people involved in crime and had guns.

I don't think the episode ever recovered for me after that. I was just not into it the whole time. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't like it either. And if I feel indifferent towards the show, then I may as well just not watch.

But yes, the stuff involving Coulson was well done, and I liked Skye pretending to be May.

I thought that was a pretty good episode. It felt like the show is starting to develop some legs.

What? You crazy!

The scene where Colson's brain is being operated on by some crazy robot, and him repeatedly asking to die wasn't good enough? That got my attention! That was some pretty dark and potentially interesting stuff there. I also liked what happened at the end of the episode as well, but that was icing on the cake for me.

My hope is that these episodes after the break are where we start to see the series really find it's true potential.

Ummm I am pretty sure everyone brands their flash bangs. Maybe not branded as fancy as the Shield version in that scene, but if your weapons got stolen it certainly makes them easier to find if their branded and someone else is using them. The LEDs were a bit silly, and the roomba joke did fall flat. Probably the weakest part of the episode but it was also a really short part.

My first introduction to flash bangs was essentially as hockey pucks with no other real features of note. But that was due to 80's and early 90's films and such, so for all I know it's different now. It mostly came to mind, however, due to the "for a secret agency they sure do brand themselves on everything". The SHIELD emblem on the plane? I can see that, as well as on the OS. On a friggin' flash bang? That just seems a bit over the top.

I will acknowledge that this is all nit-picking, really. I've certainly forgiven worse (see: Pacific Rim). I think my noticing it here is just a symptom of something greater that I haven't been able to quantify beyond "just not feeling it".

BAT SHARK REPELLENT.

SHIELD in the TV show's universe are no longer secret. People know about them since the whole alien invasion. Now they are just another Government agency, and while a lot of the stuff they do is still secret. The agency itself no longer has to hide from the public.

It looked and sounded more like being brought back to life, in the most extreme and unreasonable Frankenstein sense of the word. Lots of procedures. Lots of pain. Complete disregard for the patient's wishes. Very much a more sinister version of this.

In Avengers, when Coleson says, "I'm clockin' out here, boss.", this makes Fury's statement of "Not an option." much more sinister in retrospect.

It certainly makes the bit with the trading cards more believable.

Well this is frustrating, Hulu has decided to start delaying new episodes by a week.

Just great.

Good thing I gave up on the show I guess.

But not the thread apparently.

Now I just have justified to watch.

Only Hulu basic, looks like; if you have Hulu plus it's still available in the regular timeframe. Or if you have cable, you might be able to watch on the ABC website. (U-Verse seems to have that feature.)

Well, if that's the case, I guess I'll have to start watching it again.

Our interest has waned as well, but I'm going to keep checking in on this thread to see if it improves (they finally ripped the band-aid off on Tahiti?!) because I really wanted to like the show and I'd love to see it improve. Just, there's better uses for my time right now...

I think a good plan for me will be to watch the last 3 episodes of the season. I guess I'll try and watch this most recent one to see what the deal with Tahiti is.

Alas I gave up on cable which is why I was looking at Hulu. Those crafty bastards are on to me!

ABC's call.

Im a bit behind in seeing the last one. im also a bit confused- the "BIG" reveal was rather than being dead for a few minutes and his heart being under surgery it was his brain that was being worked on and he was dead a few days ?
thats not all that exciting, I expected bigger, a clone or Tahiti being an Asengardian clinic or something more.

I guess you've never experienced pain that almost broke you, that made you wonder if your heart was still beating because the waves of pain made it that you simply couldn't tell any more.

If memory serves, there was another Whedon show where the main character was brought back from the dead against their will, how did that turn out?

So, in conclusion, we should have a Shield musical episode sooner rather than later.

You know, the way media companies absolutely hate, hate, hate their customers continues to boggle my mind.

Pirates get it the same day. Just sayin'.

It's better, though I don't know if I would call it "good" yet.

Shepherd Book certainly gave up the goods quite easily, didn't he?
