NFL 2013: Week 3

I noticed that Reid took his redzone incompetence to KC, outside of that it looks like KC is a pretty good team. I mean we all knew they had the talent so it's not exactly surprising but it is fun to have the Chiefs back as a team to talk about. Heck maybe we'll soon start hearing about how difficult it is to play at Arrowhead again, I haven't heard anyone say that since Larry Johnson was relevant.

THIS JUST IN: 49ers LB Aldon Smith arrested on suspicion of a DUI after a one-vehicle crash Friday morning.

I honestly dont get it.

That's coming. They already have plans to decimate Seattle's decibel record this season. Season ticket sales skyrocketed with the hiring of Reid and acquisition of Alex Smith. And it is still the best pre-party tailgate experience in the NFL, which leads to a raucous environment when everything comes together.

These are not the most loyal fans, and will disappear when things go south. But give them a strong defense and a QB that doesn't turn the ball over, and the fans will provide an environment that will help win games. The fans were raised on the strong pass rush of Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith. With Justin Houston, Tamba Hali, and the emergence of Dontari Poe on the DL, fans are going to eat that up.

I miss my Chiefs season tickets from the 90's, and it would be even more fun with a QB that didn't distress the fan base so much.

I gotta say that having a healthy defense and the emergence of Poe sure does make for a fun time against Michael Vick. If the Eagles had Maclin healthy their passing game might have went better because they shut down Jackson so well. Can't do that as effectively if you let Maclin go crazy. Avant just isn't as good, obviously.

If the Chiefs stay healthy and the offense finds their groove they could make for a very dangerous team come the playoffs. I imagine Chiefs fans have to hope their D isn't peaking already.

The article on PFT stated he was arrested at 7 a.m. for DUI. 7 in the morning?

He might have 'gone to sleep' and still been drunk from the night before. People really underestimate if you binge drink then wake up at the crack of dawn it doesn't exactly mean all the booze is out of you.

Regardless I just don't get these guys. Do these cities have no car services or cabs?

The first thing I'd do as an athlete would be to hire my own personal Turtle. I already don't enjoy driving really so what better reason to have your own chauffeur.

I don't understand why teams don't have drivers for their big money stars.

Uber is working with the NFL (or the players union, can't recall) and their service will send a limo to a player. Apparently it's an app too, so you just hit a button and a limo shows up.

I'm fairly certain that most leagues provide a car service for their players. I guess athletes find the potential of vehicular homicide more exciting than having someone drive them around.

I've heard in the past that some are leery of using these services since they're essentially telling the league or team when they're drunk, which could be used against them in negotiations. Not an excuse but that may explain why the services aren't uses as heavily as they might.

Fine, so call a f*cking cab or hire your own driver.

I agree, they really don't learn.

It looks like Andy Reid figured out the secret to slowing down the Eagles offense: Fake injuries.

Ironically, this was a tactic pretty much invented by former Eagles coach Buddy Ryan.

I don't think the injuries had much effect. And I can't imagine a worse player to lose before a third down than you best CB.

There was one earlier injury that seemed pretty blatantly fake, though.

Or just use the car service 100% the time. Like even absurdly

So, next year, I will be moving back to California, right on the central coast this time.

In preparation for this glorious return, I got my company to buy a pair of seat licenses for the new 49ers stadium. Ostensibly, these are for sharing with other employees as well as using for client gifts, but in practice, as the primary NFL fan in the company, they will be mostly used by me and a little bit for the other two uses.

So, starting next year, Levi's Stadium, section 225, row 21, seats 27 and 28 (aisle seat, woot).

Bart Scott, how are we feeling?

*Legion*... I think it's time you invite me out for a "business meeting".

Or eight.

I think the secret to slowing down the Eagles offense has been shown to be "play against somebody with a better defense than the Redskins". Washington's been steamrolled two weeks in a row, Philly really only looked good against them.

People are gonna have to fight with my wife for being my +1. She's already giving me stinkeye when I talk about taking my brother or uncle.

Which is a good thing, because it's the most excited she's been about football.

Worlds collide. I'm at Golden Gate Ruby Conference and there are developers here from Bleacher Report, and they have cool company jerseys:

The name on the back of the jersey is the person's Twitter handle. Cool.

Is there a link to see the results of the picks for this week? I think I put mine in but I don't remember for sure.

Yep. Here

And nope, no LeapingGnome.

16 hours to go.

Good luck on the record. One of the things Seattle has is the stadium was built to funnel sound down to the field. An open-air stadium will have a really hard time replicating that (domes can't beat Seattle).

I am biased, though, so...

Plus the always persistent rumors that Seattle cheats and pumps crowd noise back through the sound system.

Wait, you're saying there is a team in the league that doesn't have this rumor about them?

NYG at Carolina in the Desperation Bowl. Who do you like?

I can see Eli throwing for 600 yards (the Panthers plan to play their lone healthy DB and six linebackers) and losing.

I also can see the Panthers holding the Giants to 11 points and losing.

It's sunny here in central NC, so I'm assuming the weather in the Queen City will be good, too. A beautiful day for football!

I've seen your wife. She doesn't have the reach to take me.

Just saw that Von Miller conspired with his sample collection agent to try and avoid failing a drug test. So that's why it went from a 4 to 6 game suspension.

I've never seen that rumor for the Chiefs, although they seem to be the inspiration for so many teams to promote fans getting loud. In their heyday, the Chiefs were hitting 120 decibels without coaxing the fans to break a record. With 10K more fans, I have to believe they have a shot.

I had season tickets in those days, and even if you did not scream the whole game, you come home so hoarse it was hard to talk because you were screaming just to say, "Do you want another beer?" to you buddy. Overall, I think it's not a positive feature, and it's why my dad quit going to games. There is a fine line between pumped up crowd and exhausting obnoxiousness.

I was at a few games where the noise seemed to devastate other teams. My favorite is dubbed the 49 to Niner game where Chief not only won 49-9 over San Francisco, but battered the ever-loving daylights out of Steve Young, too.

But the ultimate was thrashing Buffalo 33-3 when they were in their heyday. All I remember is thunderous yelling for three hours and Christian Okoye running up the middle over and over again.

Our seats were in the lower level, and it was crazy loud. I once visited a buddy that had nosebleed seats, and the difference in noise was significant, obviously. But its still a great way to watch game, as you get such a good overhead view of plays developing.
