NFL 2013: Week 3

He was a 3rd overall and now the pick is what a 15th tops around next year?

Besides the surprise of it happening I expected them to be getting some combination of multiple picks.

He was overdrafted, wasn't performing (3.6 ypc), was oft-injured, and they just cut bait. He was drafted in the top 5; if he's not AP or Tomlinson, he was a waste of a pick. RBs aren't going to gather you multiple picks, too many good ones are late-rounders. I see the logic of it, but, wow, talk about tanking early. I'm going to have to watch that game. Hoyer! McGahee! Excitement!

I'm unfamiliar with this years draft but I think its supposed to be extremely stacked?

Even if he was a 3rd in his year maybe he would been a 20/30/40th in a different year. Being Packer blinded I obviously don't rate RB's as high picks in drafts.

In that case all that logic works. Especially when you add in that negative Richardson maybe they lose an extra game and moves them higher.

Just seems like they had something Indy wanted so you figure they could of also swapped picks in another round to move up a tad. Just anything so it looked slightly better. Your 4 for our 5 which maybe nets them 15-20 spots lol.

Everything seems like pretty much a coin flip this week.

The war of attrition.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos placed left tackle Ryan Clady on season-ending injured reserve and signed veteran tackle Winston Justice in a corresponding move Wednesday.

Left tackle Ryan Clady, who has started every game since being drafted in the first round in 2008, will miss the rest of the season.

So it's a race for the bottom: Cleveland vs. Jacksonville. Seattle is favored by about 20 this weekend, and given Carroll's current emphasis on the offense, and the 12th man effect, I'm inclined to take that deal.

Anyone seen that new mcnugget kapernick - flacco commercial?

My guess is

Spoiler:

ray lewis is eating the nuggets

So the Browns now have an extra first-round pick. I saw somebody posted the Browns' first-round draft history, putting it here:

1999 Tim Couch
2000 Courtney Brown
2001 Gerard Warren
2002 William Green
2003 Jeff Faine
2004 Kellen Winslow II
2005 Braylon Edwards
2006 Kamerion Wimbley
2007 Joe Thomas
2007 Brady Quinn
2009 Alex Mack
2010 Joe Haden
2011 Phil Taylor
2012 Trent Richardson
2012 Brandon Weeden
2013 Barkevious Mingo

It's not quite "Tampa in the 80s" bad, but . . . wow. I mean, Joe Thomas is a stud, Joe Haden has played well, and . . . uh . . . you know . . . uh . . .

Double your pleasure....

I think that's a bit of a stretch. It's an ad for Browns gear in general, with Richardson's jersey being the headlining product (see below). Now if they had a markdown on Richardson jerseys and shirts and advertised it that way, then I can see the point of bringing it up.

I mean, who ELSE was going to headline their jerseys?

Barkevious Mingo? His name alone!

I think that's part of the problem. Richardson was their most marketable guy even if he's actually not that good.

Also part of the problem for the trade. It takes an educated read football fan to know a first next year could be better than Richardson.

Going to be a longgggg season for the Brown's if they are Jags level bad and Richardson plays well in Indy. Then again it's the Brown's and the fans are used to it.

Candygram for Mingo....

I think the trade is fine for both teams, probably smarter for Cleveland though. Richardson was dealing with injuries all of last season and was one of two competent offensive skill players on the Browns by my count. It looks like it will be a big upgrade at RB for the Colt and helps the Browns try to out-tank the Jags. I think RB value is decreasing drastically. Gio Bernard's future might be brighter than Richardson's and was the first back taken in 2013 in the second round (at least a whole round after Richardson was last year).

Bernard's Cincinnati. Cleveland has utter squat on the roster. I'd say they're tanking, but they're the Browns, so I'm not sure how I could tell.

I know that Bernard is on Cincinnati and they're more competent than Cleveland but Cincinnati doesn't have too much to scare you on offense. Green is a big threat and they have better secondary receivers but I don't think Dalton scares any secondaries outside of Charlotte.

I concur that Browns tanking also looks a lot like Browns attempting to compete now.

Same here as maybe defenses might open up a bit for Luck.

I think some of you guys are being harder on Richardson than is fair. His 3.6 ypc sucked last year, but he was injured and the defenses were perpetually loaded against him. This year he's barely been getting the touches necessary to show off his stuff and defenses have again been stacked against him. He's healthy and been running hard this year breaking tackle after tackle, but then there's three more defenders waiting for him.

Indy should be a good place for him, if he stays healthy. Big if there.

Two questions about Richardson:

1. Can he catch?
2. How's his pass blocking?

I'm asking because I don't know -- I mean, Richardson played for Cleveland, which gets no attention outside of northern Ohio. But answers such as "yes" and "at least pretty good" will go a long way toward getting him on the field.

Suck for Johnny Football?

I expect every NFL team will have multiple opportunities to take or not take Johnny Football. Things will change a lot between now and April, but current consensus has about 7-12 likely draft quarterbacks ranked ahead of him. He's a Day 3 pick.

Everytime I've seen Richardson in action I've noticed he hesitates and dances behind the line on hand offs instead of just plowing into the hole. It's the same exact sh*t Chris Johnson has been doing since 2010 and why he sucks now. If you look at this 2009 year when he had all the yards he didn't do it. Now it's like he's trying to bust a huge run on every play instead of getting what he can and waiting for the huge run to happen naturally.

Based on PFF's interpretations of his 2012 performance:

1. Yes. He caught 51 passes last year, 83.6% catch rate (putting him 14th in the league, right up there with some sure handed 3rd down backs, according to PFF's tallies).

2. Things are less positive here. Blocking was by far his worst metric in the PFF rankings, putting him near the bottom of the league.

Oh man, you weren't kidding, this music blows.

So, uh, how many passes was that before a pick?

Mayock is pretty fun to listen to, he really adds to game in his role as a commentator.

Enough about the gigabytes already!!!!!!!!

Doesn't even make sense, but they keep saying it.

Best part of Thursday night games. Sad I missed it tonight.

After last night, I can see why a lot of folks like the Chiefs so much this year.

They're not a great team, but they're a pretty good team -- competent QB, good run/catch RB, solid D line play, good rush.

I think the 160 yards they gave up to McCoy is a concern, and they need to work on making more points off of turnovers. FGs are OK when the other QB is Michael Vick, but they're going to have to find the end zone more.

All in all, not bad. Plus their schedule is super squishy for the next couple of months.

Biggest surprise: The Eagles defense held KC to 1 touchdown and some field goals.

Minus the two opening turnovers in the first 4 minutes that basically spotted the Chiefs 10 points, it was a good close game.

I'm not sure it was a good close game. Neither team took advantage of opportunities provided them. The Chiefs won because their defense forces mistakes, and ha yet to see anyone have a long sustained drive against them.

Unfortunately, their offense doesn't really have the ability to sustain drives either. But the lack of turnovers has resulted in winning the field position war in all three games.

The one criticism I heard about Reid was that he would refuse to run the ball, and that was certainly the case last night. Two weeks in a row they iced games by running the ball when the other team knew it was coming. If they opened games that way, it might help their passing game.

They are going to win more than their share of games this season, but I don't think they can win a playoff game until they move the ball and protect Alex Smith better.
